It was a Sunday of statements and rookie sensations across the National Hockey League. As we wake up on January 26, 2026, the hockey world is buzzing about a teenager stealing the show in Calgary and the Ottawa Senators finally finding their offensive stride.

Rookie Beckett Sennecke Plays Hero in Calgary

In what will undoubtedly be a career highlight reel for years to come, Anaheim Ducks rookie Beckett Sennecke announced his arrival north of the border in spectacular fashion. Playing in his first NHL game on Canadian soil, the Toronto native netted a hat trick, capped off by an overtime winner to lift the Ducks over the Calgary Flames 4-3.

Sennecke’s heroics extended Anaheim’s winning streak to seven games. His winner came on a 2-on-1 rush where he opted to shoot, wiring it past Dustin Wolf. “It’s definitely something I’ll remember,” Sennecke said post-game. He now leads all rookies with 18 goals this season.

Senators Explode for 7 Goals Against Vegas

The Ottawa Senators gave their fans plenty to cheer about with a dominat 7-1 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights. The return of goaltender Linus Ullmark seemed to spark the team, but it was the offense that stole the headlines. Dylan Cozens and rookie Stephen Halliday each potted two goals, while the Sens chased Vegas netminder Adin Hill early.

The win was a massive morale booster for an Ottawa squad trying to claw back into the Atlantic Division playoff picture. “We played a real good game and got what we deserved,” said head coach Travis Green.

Avalanche bury Leafs in Toronto

Meanwhile, in Toronto, the Maple Leafs’ struggles at home continued with a 4-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche. Brock Nelson was the story for the Avs, recording a hat trick of his own. Colorado star Nathan MacKinnon also made history, recording his 50th assist of the season, marking his fifth consecutive campaign with at least 50 helpers.
