  1. For byram only a foward 2 defenseman a goalie sweet deal but don’t forget we’ve got gm kevyn adams great this deal will hurt sabers worse

  2. Bennet will not be leaving Florida(wishful thinking), after winning the Stanley Cup for the second year in a row, his roots are established!

  3. Kadri should have better memories with the Avs: the team stuck by him and provided security for his safety while he received death threats against the St Louis Blues in the 2022 playoffs. As a result he scored a dagger defining hat trick against the Blues.

  4. Terrible proposal for Detroit. The only player on Vancouvers roster worth considering for Larkin is Hughes. Other than that, Detroit gives an emphatic NO THANK YOU !

  5. That’s not a hefty price for Barzal, it is an underpayment. Chytil is one hit away from never playing again. As it is, he can’t stay healthy, the most games he has ever played in a season was with the Rangers, 74 games. He needs to retire, if he wants to have all his facilties later in life. At the end of the season, he was on the injured list, with yet another concussion.
You guys need to figure thesem things out, before saying some of the “facts” you do and purposing trades that are down right stupid.
    Don’t insult our intelligence.
You are just throwing ‘stuff’ up against the wall, hoping something sticks.

    • That’s all these guys do, they don’t think things through.
I know, how about the Rangers trade Laffy, for McDavid, in a one for one deal.
See how utterly stupid that sounds, yet you see things like this from writers, who haven’t get a clue.

  6. A long term contract would be a very big risk for a player with Byram’s history. A 3 year showme contract without trade protection would mitigate the risk if Conroy does decide to gamble. If he can stay healthy and plays well for 2 years then you start talking extension again. If he does that but won’t extend or his ask is absurd them you have a year to trade him, possibly with retention for a good return. And if he fails then you’re only stuck with him for 3 years.

  7. is it time to move on from lohrei at draft day, to move up and maybe land shaeffer or smith or fiddler.. along with misa, desnoyers, martone or obrien.

  8. 2025…26 bruins
    geekie………lindholm……….pasta
    zacha……….middlestaht…….boeser
    harrison…….poitras……..minten
    beecher………kastelic…….viel
    bancroft

    lorhei……mcavoy
    lindholm…….jackson edward
    zadorov…….peeke
    frederic brunet
    swayman and depeitro

trade korpi, middlestadt, if u can, if bruins have eye on marner, then they better get a scoring centre to play with him, like zegras, more heart and soul of canadian kids and draft picks, required for this team. to soft, to complacent.

  9. And if you use Bally/Fanduel and use highline or Starlink, you may find that you are actually living in Chicago according to them and denied viewing even though you are paying extra to do so.(this especially applies with ANY Chicago teams vs Detroit) Last year missed many Tigers games with a Yale, Mi zip code and them not being able to fix the situation so zoned out since my internet offices are in Chicago. Pathetic.

  10. the smart play would be to move marchand to contending team for top prospect, 1st and 3rd rnd picks.
sign geekie to 4 yr extension and he becomes the new marchand to play with pasta, which will continue to bolster his value.
he would be great trade chip in future.

  11. Another dumb trade proposal involving Detroit. The Wings have trouble keeping the puck out of their own net, so they should trade for another defenseman who doesn’t defend ? Really ? That’s the best you’ve got ? If it is, then it’s time to shut it down.

  12. Robertson is at best worth a 2028 7th round pick, or more likely a waiver wire pick up. The only folks who think he has potential and value are hopeless dreaming TML fans.

  13. Lol…I don’t see 2.5 million becoming a problem with the cap going up 20 million in the next three years. And yes he is a bottom six player. That will be his role going forward.

  14. The real question is whether the Flames would be willing to trade with the Canucks, helping the team they’re battling with over the 2nd wild card spot. It’ll be a lot easier for Calgary to pick up a defenseman than it’ll be for the Canucks to gain cap space.

  15. Laughton is not on the trade block, neither is ristolainan. So there is no asking price for either player. They are listening to other teams as they should. Doesn’t mean they will move either of these players. It will take a really good offer for them to move either player. I mentioned risto because his name has been thrown around as well.

  16. Not happening. While Vancouver would do well to get Nemec from the Devils, it’s unlikely he’s available and even if he was, Devils would need to clear a lot of salary to fit Boeser in unless Vancouver retained 50% and took a contract back like Tatar. In that scenario, NJ might be more inclined but I don’t see it happening.

  17. Petts is one of the top defensemen likely to be available this year. At half his cap hit, his value is so high that the Jets are probably adding to Yager.

  18. Your article doesn’t make sense. You mentioned that LA receives assets for the future, but then say they are in a win now mode. Which is it ? If they are in a win now mode, this trade doesn’t help.

  19. Seriously stop shitting on our organization. We would never give up our future and a future super star in ASP for a 26 year old who has 2 seasons of great Production. The cap hit alone would only be acceptable from McDavid mackinnon or makar. Put the keyboard down.

  20. Oh c’mon, just stop it ! This is absurd ! Pettersson will fetch maybe half of this return. His current value is much reduced. This trade happens only in Canucks fans dreams.

  21. why in the name of anything holy would JT miller who is an underperforming 31 year old overpriced prima-donna be worth 4 players and a sure to be early first round pick. hes good, but not that good.

  22. Although I would love to see Miller with Montreal, I would hesitate to give Dach who is playing great right now since Laine is in the lineup. Also Evans is the greatest 4th line centre we have in the league and it takes a while to mold a player like that. I think we would go backwards instead of forward. We can tinker but not at the cost of 20 first round picks who the editor is saying. He must be a Leaf fan to write like this.

    • Seriously! Total BS!
Does the writer not remember that Miller is the problem child, not the 4 players listed..
I would give Dvorak, Havard, a 1st and Mesar or Davidson.. c’est tout my friend. No go.. find another sucker..

  23. Since Laine is in the line-up Dach has greatly improved and they have a good chemical; you don’t break this sorts of things.
Jake Evans is what makes the fourth line the best in the NHL and because they can play 4 lines, they manage their best players which saves stamina late in the game, especially in two games back to back and it decreases the odds of injuries. Evans is good on face-offs, PK, and is a good scorer that doesn’t cost a kidney. Why in the world would you trade an asset like him? So in return for a locker-room poison, the Habs would give a 2025 1st round pick, break Laine’s partner in crime and obliterate their fourth line. Sounds like a great plan for a tankathon!

  24. Why is it that DRW give a #1 and #2 and a younger replacement – for an old, overpaid player, who a lot of guys are saying is a disrupter? Compher and a #2. The End!

  25. Lol, no wonder Vancouver won’t complete that deal. Detroit wants a stud in return for nothing. Danielson is unproven, Compher is a plug and Wallinder, another unproven. These so called insiders must think Canucks are giving players away for free. What a joke.

  26. The Flyers have handed out , what I call, +20% contracts for years The agents and players around the league know this and have taken advantage. Couturier 7m not worth 4.5. Hayes 7m not worth 3. Voracek 8m wasn’t worth 5. Ristolinan 5m not worth 4. Farabee 5m not worth 3. Atkinson not worth 2. They still owe half of Hayes contract through 25/26 season. Oh man, I’m getting sick just writing this. Thanks Fletcher!!
So now u know why a team that isn’t rebuilding, can’t rebuild. But yet there is always a way ( see Bill Guerin)
And Briere must find a way to really rebuild soon or he will be gone in a year. U to Jones
    Get aggressive, please

  27. It is so sad, my wife and I cannot afford to pay even more money to watch the Detroit Red Wings. They didn’t make enough money on over the air free tv?

  28. What pennies on the dollar? Columbus gave us a 2nd rounder to take on Laine’s contract for 2 seasons.
Sometimes the best return is being rid of $5.5M on your team cap.

  29. Detroit says no – easily. And though Petterson is the more talented player, Larkin is a gamer and leader. Vancouver would have to add a significant sweetener.

  30. Habs are more than likely to extend Jake on a 3-4 team friendly deal between 3 and 3.5m… It would take a massive overpay to get Evans… Dvorak is available 😉

  31. YOU NEED TO FIRE LOU B4 HE DESTROYS THIS FRANCHISE FOREVER! THIS PACKAGE IS REDICULOUS!!! IF HE MOVES NELSON AND A 1ST FOR HIM ITS A FUCKING DISASTER. LET ALONE, ADDING IN DOBSON.
ATROCIOUSLY BAD TRADE FOR ISLES! DISGUSTINGLY BAD!

  32. The only condition I would make on the 2026 1st is if it’s top 5 protected. If this came to fruition Detroit’s future D pairings could look like this:
    Byram Seider
    Edvidsson ASP
    Buium Tuomisto
    Johansson

  33. No way Detroit does this … Byran being a free agent….. Also the first round pick is just too much to give up…hell wallinder could be the answer himself….no deal

  34. Sabres aren’t doing that. BUF is even more determined/desperate to win now than DET, so they aren’t giving up the more “now” piece for futures… they’re looking to get older, not younger.

  35. I would welcome Byram. Anyone else know much about him? The Wings need help on the D side of things. Petry, Eric G, etc are not going to cut it.

  36. If you’re in in Vegas, they just beat your team last night. They’re not going to be in a lottery position this year. Update your article. Both Laine and Dach are just hitting their strides as both missed full season’s last year.

  37. That’s absurd beyond reasoning giving up a promising goalie and picks for a washed out goalie who’s already failed in Ottawa. No gm makes this trade

  38. Overpaid J. Skinner, and Ryan could be traded draft picks and/or prospects before trade deadline.
    As for Kane…wait and see.
Possibility traded in the summer for prospects, or draft picks

  39. 7.1 million, 6 years for a guy who hasnt really done anything. This would cost Yzerman his job. Not even worth a 7th RD pick. NO WAY

    • Sabres want vets in a trade. They are blaming their woes on too many young players not enough vets. The cap is going up at least $4.4M next year.
So look for the trade to include a 2nd/3rd line center (or 2nd line winger) + 4th line (cheaper) vet (or perhaps a vet d-man) + 2nd round draft pick + good prospect. Detroit has Compher, Copp, and Tarasenko as vets that fit this request. If Detroit deals a player with term and salary left–say Copp (2.5 yrs @$5.625M) or Compher (3.5yrs @$5.1M) or even Tarasenko (1.5yrs @$4.75M) then the $7.1M is easier to absorb. Throw in a 4th liner like say Veleno (1.5yrs @$2.275M) or a vet d-man (Chiarot 1.5@$4.75M or Gustafsson ([email protected]) and Cozens’ contract isn’t the albatross you think. Detroit also has 2 picks that are essentially have the same ceiling Kasper and Danielson so one could be expendable.
If Yzerman offers: Compher + Chiarot + Berggren + high 2nd (Detroit’s 2025) I think that’s a decent package (good 3rd line center + good 3rd pair d-man (okay 2nd pair if necessary but can play both sides of the point) + 2nd line ceiling young wing + pick in the 30’s. Throw in Veleno if necessary.
Or structure it around trading a Kasper or Danielson and getting rid of a Copp contract.

  40. Would definitely be interested in such a trade. I would move one of DeBrincat or Kasper or Danielson and this years 2025 first for Dylan Cozens.

  41. It’s good to know that a team has true interest in Nicky, the issue here is that unless Tre has a deal for a third line winger to replace Robertson, I can’t see him moving him. If Tre does find a player that fit’s the bill then I could see Tre flipping Robertson for a pick or high end prospect. It’s to bad that you don’t have a spare third line center. We’ll just have to wait and see what unfolds down the road.

  42. Dach + LM + for .5pt/game guy with upside – seems totally ridiculous to me – way too much for way too little. LM is likely to be in the running for the Clader Trophy next year. We have held onto Dach this long – we need to follow through and he does seem to be finding his game.

  43. Petersen is aloof and self centered, getting snarky with questions from reporters….he is a problem and Miller knows it…..get him out and get the best return.

    • No thanks. I don’t want Pettersson traded from Canucks. I rather want to see a season where Pettersson (#40) plays on the same team with Canucks’s other Pettersson player (#26). Also Miller is the older player, and if one of them has to be traded anytime soon, then I say trade Miller instead of Pettersson. I expect Pettersson to get better as the season progresses and be playing at his best by the time it hits the end of regular season. Fans should be respectful towards younger players that have become a part of their NHL’s team.

  44. Why would Bennett want to leave a Cup contender for the Flames? Also, what would have to go the other way. Panthers probably don’t want picks/prospects.

  45. Except you’ve ignored his NMC this season, wouldnt be able to trade him this year if he says no. Considering he just bought Jakes house, I think he would say no.

  46. Rangers already have a high scoring / highly paid non physical winger who disappears in the playoffs. Why would they look to add another?

  47. Is this list a joke? I mean outside of the Roy trade I doubt the others qualify in the top 25. Off the top of my head, there’s the Gretzky trade to LA, the Lindros trade, Hodge and Esposito to the Bruins, Neely to the Bruins, Gilmour to the Leafs, sundin to the Leafs…

  48. They do not have one RHD in the pipeline but TWO!! Mailloux AND Reinbacher are right handed. They passed on Mitchkov, who leads by a head the pts for rookies, so they can get their hands on Reinbacher and now they’re looking for a another one? Mailloux is almost a ppg right now they might just call him from Laval and give him a try instead. What they need right now is a solid 2nd goalie and a coach that puts Slav on the 1st line.

  49. This is no longer a rumor, but has been identified as a lie. There never was a request by Larkin, and you know it. Repeating this is the mark of a scumbag.

  50. My bet is he is part of a bigger trade for Defensive help. I would think they may package him and Juulsson for an upgrade on Right side D.

    • I agree – Ottawa would need to add something significant to make this a fair trade. This author is awful at this trade proposal stuff. He has no clue.

  51. Agree. Him or Brock Nelson are the perfect choices for the Bruins. Go Center before any other position.
    Making the lines more balanced.
    1. Zacha- Granlund or Nelson- Pasta
    2. Marshy- Lindholm-Brazeau
    3. Freddy- Johnson- Kastelic
    4. Beecher- Pitlick (from AHL)- Koepke

  52. You do realize that the Leafs don’t have their 2023 first round pick right? Its top ten protected, but that pick belongs to Chicago

  53. Another swing and a miss Bill.

Palmeiri would bring a bigger return than what you proposed, and I’m sure that the Islanders are looking for prospects rather than draft picks.

  54. Matheson is a lifted skater and offensive defenseman but a poor defender, kind of like Shayne Gostisbehere, which will limit the return.

  55. Ya hit he nail on the head lago. No research and hot wind. He will be 29 before next season starts and is, as you mentioned a small defenseman, similar to one the Red Wings drafted recently, but this guy has way less talent. Draft: Nashville, 4th round (115th overall), 2015 NHL Entry

  56. Come on Bill ! Get your facts together before you write ! Carrier is a small 28 year old defenseman, not a young talented forward.

This is the writing of a punk amateur wannabe.

  57. I disagree with the value you assign to Matheson. He is a gifted offensive defenseman who is also a poor defender, and is only a 1st pair guy on a bottom team. I value him as a #4/5 defenseman who isn’t worth either a 1st round pick or an A prospect 1 for 1.

  58. A gamble that has paid off immensely. Currently Lankinen is 7-0-1 in his 8 starts. He looks fantastic and his play has allowed Thatcher Demko to take his time to heal and not rush back from it. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Lankinen sign an extension.

  59. This author is dreaming. Buffalo would never consider a Boeser/Byram trade. I doubt they are thinking of moving Byram, and Boeser is not even close to enough anyway.

  60. Why would the Sabres deal him to a divisional rival. And the Sens only have one 1st round pick in the next 2 years. With a very poor prospect pool, why would they trade it away?

  61. Stop with the silliness already. Why would any team in a rebuild take on a 28 year old player with that length of a contract. Bailey needs to pursue another endeavor as this one is over his head.

  62. Dach is 22. Why would the Habs trade him when he is part of their rebuild? They would prefer trading their own draft capital for players in that age
    Bracket.

  63. Being patient is the key. Adding a player like Pinto would be a good but probably expensive move. The big question would Pinto want to be here long term

  64. Give one good reason why Rantanen would want to come to Toronto? This isn’t any type of smack talk, just a real question.

  65. Really it depends on what they get offered too. It’ll take a very good offer to convince Conroy to move Andersson especially this year.

  66. Two reasons this Fowler trade to the Wings never happens – first, Detroit needs a RD far more than another LD like Fowler, and second, Detroit has no cap space, so any trade would need to be dollar in, dollar out. Little chance of that.

  67. i paid and made picks but never got email saying i am in my game name is arnieboy58 and my name is wayne henderson paid PayPal under donna loughran name

  68. the blindsided late hit directly to the jaw that Greig threw on Dach in the first was a worse hit, similar style, and set the tone – for some reason that hit got reduced to 2 minutes even though head was the first point of contact, yet Xhekaj’s 5 stands when he hits the guys stick? It’s a complete joke… the haters will always put blinders on to hate on the Sheriff – the replays were clear and obvious for both hits.
Xhekaj doesn’t make any head contact… he should of got 2 minutes and Brady should of got his 2, 5, and 10 for instigating a fight in retaliation as is the norm…. officiating is already a huge problem again.

  69. That the Flames would be looking to sign a super expensive goalie (Shesterkin or Swayman) is about the dumbest Flames rumor out there right now.

Only an idiot who knows nothing about the team, it’s goalies, it’s ownership or GM would believe that.

  70. This is one of the dumbest things I’ve read in weeks.

The Islanders are not retooling, and if you know ANYTHING at all about Lou, you know he would never in a million years trade his Captain before the season starts, much less Dobson who is well on his way to becoming a star. IF the season goes badly, then you could see Lee, Palmieri and Nelson dealt at the trade deadline, but not in a million years before that. It’s just not how Lou operates.

  71. Hey Dave, this website blows, and just wanted to tell you the actually reputable NY Post said they’re closer in talks than you’ve described. I mean why would people on the team beat who have relationships with both parties have a better understanding of the situation than some writer on a garbage blogsite? Have a good one!

  72. with preseason underway, and bruins giving lysell a golden opportunity to succeed, that hasn’t or will not be successful, begs the question, who in the bruins organization is accountable for making the lysell selection in the first round versus wyatt johnson, a right hand center the bruins coveted. is a change in scouting and the decision making management position necessary for bruins future success.

  73. Do you think that Montreal will be willing to include Reinbacher to get a top RD ? I would think that St Louis would want him + for Parayko.

  74. I hate it when people use the term McJesus. Jesus is Christ my Lord and Savior, not a hockey player. Not that I don’t love McDaddy, he can be my big daddy any day. Oilers Rule.

    • It’s ok Sheldon, Yeshua was his name, not Jesus, the letter J never existed in the alphabet in “Christs” day. As well, look up the etymology on the word GOD. lol I almost had you looking up insects there, homophones am I right? anywho, God has nothing to do with the Creator. Yahuah is the creator’s name. Ever wonder why so many people pray and their prayers seem to never get answered, but the guy at the pulpit seems to have overflowing wealth of this world?. I like to make a joke of it and think that out there is some Mexican hot dog vendor waking every night in cold sweat hearing the disembodied prayers of millions. Don’t send letters without names. Know what I am saying? Side note, the GENEVA BIBLE of 1599 is the only true English translation of scripture unadulterated from its original Hebrew and Greek texts, even then, a collection of books. Ever read Enoch? We are about to live out it’s pages. Wild times. I wonder how it’s going to affect Hockey this season when Revelation 13 takes Presidency? LMAO Bless you all, repent, LOVE not division, KEEP THE FAITH!! Vengeance is the Creators alone to take, even says it in section 18 of the Quran. So there. Suck it up buttercups, no man is to take any life of another, thus live by the sword die by the sword, or in our case, live by the Goalie stick die by the Goalie stick… am I right? Let’s talk Hockey, we have an eternity with Christ in the afterlife, let’s enjoy the blessings of the one created for us all for how ever long we have. Love you Guy’s, seriously, I hope you feel me. So that all said keep your stick on the ice!

  75. I mean really. If Montreal wants a player to complete their first line then they sure won’t be getting him for such a lowball offer.

  76. To complete the trade, Detroit ups the offer, and includes Yzerman himself, which he does prior to being fired by the Wings for making this trade. An A prospect and a 1st ? No thanks.

  77. Well, Bill. You’ve set a new standard with this one. If Yzerman were to do this trade, his next step might be to join the Canadiens organization, as he would most certainly be fired by Detroit. This proposal gives Detroit maybe 1/2 of Raymond’s value from Montreal, maybe less. If Montreal called Detroit with this offer, Yzerman, after he stops laughing (which might take a while) says no thank you.

    You really suck at this.

  78. LMAO – The Hab fan base would not be happy and HuGo is way too smart for this joke proposal…. Hutson has Quinn Hughes potential and is probably already worth more than Raymond straight up – guess silly season is still going with the way journalists make fools of themselves 😉

  79. Laughable. There’s no chance Calgary retains salary on Kadri. Even without the retention you’d have to replace Krebs and Rosen with something better than either one.

  80. Calgary is listening to offers but it’ll take a really good to get Andersson now. He won’t be sold cheap and if anyone thinks having a bit of a down year due to recovering from literally being hit by truck they’re dreaming.

Andersson has 2 years left on his contract at a team friendly cap hit. Calgary is no rush to move him just for the sake of moving. Unless they get an offer that blows their socks off they’ll be perfectly content to wait until near the trade deadline or until next year to decide if they’ll even trade him at all.

  81. No deal. Other than the 1st there isn’t much in this proposal to interest. Just a completely superflous expensive left shot LW cap dump with a 3 years of term and a mediocre RW prospect.

If Calgary trades Kadri they’ll want a good young center / center prospect as part of the return or a significantly better return than this.

  82. Robertson doesn’t fit into Detroits top six any more than he does into Toronto. Which top six winger do you see him replacing ? Raymond ? Kane ? DeBrincat ? Tarasenko ? No chance.

  83. Askarov could be a game changer for the franchise in the future. If LA is out of contention by mid season I would do it. The Kings aren’t in a win now situation. If the best they could offer is the past three years then this is going into rebuild mode. I like Portillo but he’s not even close to Askarov’s level.

  84. This deal is not gonna happen or at least not in the form presented. Columbus makes out like absolute bandits. No way possible that Laine is worth anywhere close to that.

  85. Not a trade that would happen, especially at this time of the year.

While Flames are building up, they also want to make a run for playoffs. They need quality vets to help the younger players grow and develop. They also needs butts in seats and Kadri is popular. Kadri does this for them.

In all likelihood, Flames get same or more for Kadri at the trade deadline from a team wanting to go all-in, so it makes more sense for the Flames to hold their position, play out the season and evaluate where they are at coming up to the trade deadline.

  86. Some of those numbers are waaaaaayyyyy off! (How does Crosby have a 12 year contract? When was Seth Jones re-signed for eight years at $12.5 million? Werenski suddenly gets another $2 million per year?)

  87. Hate the thought of trading Beck & Mesar two young and talented players but Knowing the people in charge of trades are masters of their craft

  88. Doesn’t make sense for the Habs, Hage will slot in as the 2nd line center when he’s finished at Michigan and Beck into 3rd line center position.

  89. This rumour is so bad lol

Why in the world would the flames ever make that trade? Pospisil is the best player in that trade

  90. This won’t happen. Sabres get an established and productive player for a question mark player. No one would make that deal. Now throw in Helenius and a 2nd on round pick on top of that then we can talk.

  91. This is THE trade that I am hoping for .!! Kaliyev fits the core in Montreal and has the skill set that the HABS development team can work with .!! Please Kent …make this happen !!!

  92. Detroit says no thank you – emphatically ! This proposal is downright silly ! Detroit wouldn’t trade Berggren for Gourde even up, let alone add a 4th round pick. Berggren would out produce Gourde by a significant margin. I doubt Detroit has any interest in Gourde, but if they did, Seattle would need to add to the proposal, like 2nd round pick.

  93. Horrible move. A 32 soon to be 33 year old in December whom averages 13 goals a year. If Yzerman does this, he should be fired.

  94. Get real, Wolf isn’t going anywhere. Neither is Kadri unless they have a very good young center coming in to replace him (not necessarily in the same trade).

  95. Kings can’t trade Clarke !!! Certainly not yet ! They need to see what he can do for one season as a full time NHL’r. We actually have a good goalie pipeline right now. We need a great, young, offensive D man to replace Doughty soon and we don’t have anyone close to Clarke in our prospect pool. This would be a stupid trade for Rob Blake to make.

  96. If I were the Flyers I would switch out Lapierre for Lenard then pull the trigger. We would be getting excellent players in return and have 4 1st round draft picks next year to move up and get an elite player. It’s a no Brainerd. But being the Flyers they would see the value in it and walk right past it.

  97. The last thing Philadelphia needs is more low ceiling prospects for the most valuable versatile highest scoring peice on the team right now. Come on guys. Get serious.

  98. Once again absolutely NO WAY that “throw together Cap Dump” gets you Konecny. That’s insane.
You better be thinking MORE like Ryan Leonard AND a 1st if we’re taking Oshie. Bear is just another bottom pair D and Lappy is what a 2nd round bottom6 ceiling prospect? AND you think The Flyers are retaining 50% of that STEAL of a contract? That’s some true clown stuff there.
Ryan Leonard and the 2025 1st. And The Flyers might take Oshie with an extra sweetener.
No Bear or other low rate prospects.
Caps Konecny and get off of Oshie and his contract. Flyers can open up LTIR for a 1st and an 8th overall picked potentially elite forward prospect.
    Otherwise this would never happen.

  99. Why in the world would you think Greenway and a low level prospect get you Farabee. Keep dreaming Sabres fans. Maybe with a 1st or an Owens.

  100. Awful trade for Philadelphia. No way Flyers give up their only middle6 center for another defenseman and more late round picks. No thanks.

  101. For me Carlo stays where he is in Boston and one of their best. NO TRADING this guy. That’s it that’s all.

  102. Great idea on the trade, deal from a point of strength and get younger. I like Carlo but you have to think of the future and cap. Hopefully these two in return are tougher individuals like some of the most recent signings.

  103. What a load of crapp. The Bruins are a perennial Playoff team and aren’t looking to trade one of their best defensemen. Stop making stupid trade proposals not based on reality.

  104. The proposal for Utah to trade for JT Compher from Detroit is most likely not feasible prior to the upcoming season. Compher provides 3 things to the Wings lineup that they have no replacement for this season:
    1. Compher is Detroits #2C, and there is no one available in their current system to take that spot.
    2. Compher is Detroits only RHC, so trading him would create the very problem here that Utah is trying to solve there with this proposal.
    3. Compher, along with Copp, form a very good #1 PK forward team, and again, there is no one in the system here to replace him.

    Iago

    • Rumor is Detroit wants Norris–an actual #2 center and from the Detroit area (Oxford, MI)–from Ottawa; so, Compher would then be expendable. However, I don’t see Detroit grabbing Norris and his 7.95M cap hits for the next 6 seasons.

Norris has a back-loaded actual salary contract. So it is possible Ottawa is trying to deal him before his MNTC’s kick in and before his 9.5M in actual dollars kick in this year.

If Ottawa retained salary to get the cap hits down. I don’t think Detroit cares about paying his actual salary.

On the flip side. I don’t see an upside for the trade with Utah. A 2nd and a 3rd in two years…yeah that would be an easy pass.

  105. The Ottawa senators will make a bad splash if they get a goalie ulmark looks good because of defence at -4 Talbot looks good because of defence at -9 Ottawa goalies looks bad because of defence at -47 get good defensemen instead .

  106. I don’t see that trade giving Colorado much cap relief.
Jarnkrok get $2.1M/yr for the next two years.
Liljegren is a RFA with arbitration rights. His numbers will probably get him $3+ mil (some project $4M).
they’re spending $5.1+ M to replace a $4M guy. They’re getting a dmen who the Leafs would be walking away from because of the $3+ mil likely arbitration.
To me, doesn’t make sense for Colorado.

  107. This trade wouldn’t be good for just Zegras let alone him and Gibson. The Ducks are literally loaded with high end centers with more than a few in the minors that will play bottom pairing roles perfectly. Mercer at best is a middle six player and probably a third line winger on the Ducks. If this deal has any legs behind it The Ducks need more. For Zegras AND Gibson it would take a prospect like Mercer, this years first and next years first and a 2026 third. No deal unless it is something like that or very close.

  108. Safe to say that there is less than 0% chance this trade happens. Rangers would not do Konecny for Perreault straight up let alone add a first round pick for a one year rental. Konecny for a 1st and maybe Kakko or a B+ prospect would be sufficient.

  109. I think Ottawa should go for Colton and instead of a first round pick try and get 6 foot 3 right hand shot defenseman Josh manson in the deal .

  110. This trade proposal makes little sense for Detroit in that Konecny does not fill their main need up front, which is LH top six forward. Konecny is a small RH forward similar.to Raymond and DeBrincat,
and the Wings top forward prospect Carter Mazur. Meanwhile, if Kane does not return, as anticipated, Detroit has no LH top six forward on the roster w ith only one prospect, Berggren, in the pipeline. And although Konecny plays with an edge, he does not fill the need for size up front either. If Yzerman were to be willing to part with Kasper and their 2024 1st, he needs to target a top 6 LH winger with some size and toughness, not a player like Konecny, who is redundant to what Detroit already has in the organization.

  111. Exchanging Batherson for Ullmark would be a mistake look at Cam Talbot stats with the La kings you will see it’s a lack of defence in Ottawa

  112. When you look at the compensation that has to be awarded to the Jets if Cole were to sign an offer sheet, I don’t think there is a GM out there that would offer a contract that the Jets wouldn’t immediately match.

If Cole were to sign an offersheet over $4,290,125 the offering team would have to give up one first-round pick and one third-round pick. I don’t think many teams would give that up for what will likely be a bridge deal.

I think the Jets would be quick to match an offer below that amount.

I think the only way Cole leaves the Jets this off season is through a trade.

Here is how the compensation is structured for the 2023-2024 season:

    Here is the compensation structure:

    Less than $1,415,740: No compensation.
    $1,415,740 to $2,145,061: One third-round pick.
    $2,145,061 to $4,290,125: One second-round pick.
$4,290,125 to $6,435,186: One first-round pick and one third-round pick.
$6,435,186 to $8,580,250: One first-round pick, one second-round pick, and one third-round pick.
$8,580,250 to $10,725,314: Two first-round picks, one second-round pick, and one third-round pick.
$10,725,314 and above: Four first-round picks.

  113. WE WILL NEVER SEE A STANLY CUP ,WITH THE D-FENSE WE HAVE ! GO RANGERS…….
(SIGNED : X-BRUIN FAN ) LOOK AT THIS YEARS PAST GAMES !
    WATCH THE ( D ) #25 FOR STARTERS.#12 ? WHAT WAS SWEENEY THINKING ABOUT. O’ AND #61 WHAT A ( JOKE )…..

  114. Marner makes absolutely no sense for Calgary. The only way they’d consider taking him would be if it costs less than the late 1st + B prospect they could flip him for at 50% retained.

  115. PLD was frustrated with his own play. I didn’t read any tidbit that says he wants to move to a fourth team. Yeah, I want to leave LA for Washington, D.C. said not to many hockey players ever!

  116. Why is Ottawa trading Chychryn if he has such a good contract? …they just acquired him. Is Ehlers worth more? I think Ehlers had a bad year because he was jerked around a lot and lost his confidence. Maybe for his sake, he should go elsewhere where he will flourish. I hate to see him go.

  117. THAT FIRST ROUND (EXIT), IS RIGHT AROUND THE BEND !
WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR ( QUOTE ) LIKE THE RANGER FANS
    ALWAYS SAID.WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR, ( 54 TIMES )…..HA,HA.

  118. This article is just silly. Tkachuk, Seider, and Raymond aren’t going anywhere. And Ottawa is stuck with Chabot and his fat long term contract.
Then extend time you are thinking of writing another article like this Bill, just don’t do it, or you may embarrass yourself again.

  119. Nope. Yzerman is in this for the long game, and trading away cornerstones of the team’s future isn’t going to happen. Mo and Ray will stay.

    • Thank god you have no influence on the Sens management. A comment such as yours should be proof that it is time for you to pull your head out of your a**.

  120. They can get Tij through another teade- Markstrome to Devils. 3 high 1st round picks would be great for future and it seems they go for rebuild anyway.

  121. I understand that Craig Conroy had to put Markstrom name out to see if there was a good trade. I guess the G.M.’s of the league can’t keep a secret. Now with the further wave of rumors I can see why Markstrom wants to be traded. Personally were going to be sorry to loose him no matter what we get in trade.

  122. Chabot will not be easy to trade, even before his NTC kicks in. He is oft injured, and is adequate (at best) defensively. It might even require a sweetener to get rid of his big long term contract. And the return would probably be moderate, not significant. My Red Wings need help on D, and I would not want Chabot here at any price

  123. The only way the Habs would be interested in the above deal is if LA retained a minimum of 25% of Dubois’ salary.

  124. I would not make this deal The chemistry of this team seems to be moving forward in a positive way. The team itself has improved a lot over the last two years, and the future looks bright. Bringing in this player and his contract would immediately make him the highest payed player…….wrong. If it’s a matter of getting rid of Andersons’ contract then just make a separate dumping deal to a team in need of a pick or two in the middle rounds Too much risk involved in acquiring this player. His first year in LA and he didn’t perform that well at all. Please do not make this deal

  125. i think the image being used here may be part of the answer. teams where he couldn’t wear 88 are going to have a seriously uphill battle w that signing.

  126. This makes absolutely non sense for Mtl, why would they add Heineman and a pick. Also the need wingers that can score not 2 way centers….

  127. Buffalo is ahead of Calgary in the standings. Calgary is not going swap picks to pick later. And you think they should give them Kadri too?

    • They said the pick originally belonging to Vancouver that calgary has so this proposed trade does improve the flames draft position but I’m still not convinced it’s enough for Kadri

  128. Why would Ottawa trade a very good and affordable defenceman with ties to the Ottawa area for a more expensive free agent defenceman? How’bout this for a made up trade rumour:
Leafs seriously thinking of trading Marner to Ottawa for a conditional 4th round draft pick and Toronto will retain 67% of Marner’s remaining salary. True story.

  129. WHERE ARE ALL THE DIE-HARD BRUIN FANS ?
DON’T YOU CARE ABOUT BEING (BLOWN-OUT) AGAIN?
IF THE (2) OF THE (D) MEN ARE STILL THERE, YOU
KNOW WHICH (2) I’M TALKING ABOUT ! YOU CAN GET
OUT THE GOLF CLUBS EARLY THIS YEAR !
    SAY SOMETHING,DO SOMETHING !

  130. Arber Xhekaj is so much more than a defenseman, he is a leader, team player and a beating heart. Montreal and Hughes have lost sight of what made Montreal great, it was the workers and the grinders and the talented supporting actors in their very successful play. Think of all the people that you think of as Legends, then think of the people they played beside and with. Give your head a shake!

  131. This is not an option… Xhekaj is untouchable… If you want to trade a young D, than use Harris, Struble, or Barron – but Xhekaj is here for the long haul

  132. Calgary would grab this so fast the phone would overheat. Problem being both Kadri and Coleman have NTCs and it is unlikely that both waive. I also Question which 1st rounder is under discussion, the Calgary one is already committed or the Floaida one certainly, but not sure that would be adequate for Carolina.

  133. Calgary would grab this so fast the phone would overheat. Problem being both Kadri and Coleman have NTCs and it is unlikely that both waive. I also Question which 1st rounder is under discussion, the Vancouver one certainly, but not sure that would be adequate for Carolina

  134. Not happening. Yzerman ain’t giving up those picks for a likely first round exit. And Petry couldn’t get out of Montreal fast enough. Why would the reacquire him?

  135. Hi Rob what is your favorite NHL team mine is the best in the league The winnipeg Jets do you think they will make the playoffs i hope they do

  136. Buchnevich is signed through the 24-25 season for $5.8 million. The Blues could easily accommodate a bridge deal for Necas. Also, Necas age is what Blues GM Doug Armstrong has been looking for as he tries to keep St Louis as a competitive bubble team during the reload. Blake has been an offensive force for the University of North Dakota so the potential offensive talent between the two players is considerable. The major hole in the Blues prospect pool is top 4 defensemen. Theo Lindstein, one of three Blues first rounders last year is currently the only prospect that seems to fit that requirement. Carolina has Morrow and Nikishin as their top two defensive prospects, could the trade morph into dropping Moore and adding one of the two defensive prospects? Only time will tell.

  137. The alleged rumor of this proposed “deal” must have originated in some Wild fan’s wishful daydream. There is no way the Rangers are trading a 23 year old Kakko and an 18 year old Perrault, both big parts of the Rangers’ future, for a 36 year old anyone. Furthermore, Perrault was just drafted this last draft, and he is considered the steal of the draft by many experts, as he’s putting up huge numbers as a freshman at Boston College. Where you get that notion that he’s failed to impress Rangers staff when the very opposite is the case, is beyond me. If you’re going to make something up, at least do a bit of research.

  138. Why would the Blues consider a trade like this when the player they’re going to receive back is a RFA at the end of this season? They probably couldn’t resign him for the same reasons why they can’t resign Buchnevich. Carolina will have a whole season after this season! I’m just wondering?

  139. I’VE BEEN SIGNED IN AND POSTED ( 3 ) COMMENTS ABOUT THE
    ( D ), THE WORST 2 D-MEN EVER TO PUT ON A BRUIN UNIFORM
YOU’LL KNOW WHEN YOU WATCH THE GAMES WHO THEY ARE !
    HERES A HINT # 12 + # 25 FOR STARTERS……OUCH !!!!!!

  140. If toronoto wants parayko think of this.
Neimela knies and 1st round pick. How the kap works is not our problem. Lol to the guy above. Parayko is a #1rhd who plays 24 to 27 mins a night and plays against the best comp while putting up 35 points..lol

  141. I’m afraid this is going to be another year of disappointment for the Oilers. They lack depth, decent defence and consistent goaltending.

  142. The Oilers better not waste McDavid’s prime, they need to go all in for it this year because time is undefeated McDavid(27), Draisaitl (28), Hyman (31), Kane (32), and Nugent-Hospkins (30) these boys aren’t getting anu younger. They need to trade for Buchnevich (28) 22g 24a for 46 points this year and it projected to be a 67 point player, all it would take is a no.1 in 2024, Philip Broberg and a 3rd round in 2025. Buchnevich is signed thru next year at 5.8m AAV. The Oilers should be playing for the western conference championship at this year so the no.1 would be no great than a 1st round 28th selection.

  143. Vegas should not be allowed to do this. It happens every year with them. Some how Mark Stone will be totally fine for game 1 on the playoffs.

  144. Aren’t Guentzel and Graves UFAs? Couldn’t they walk away and go wherever they want? Doesn’t make sense to me unless they sign extensions. The Habs don’t need them this year.

  145. I GUESS NO ONE CARES IF WE GET BLOWN OUT IN THE FIRST ROUND AGAIN ! ( WHY )? THE D- CAN’T DO THE JOB THIER
GETTING PAID TO DO ! AGAIN WATCH THE GAMES AND SEE THE (2) D-MEN I’M TALKING ABOUT ! 12 + 25 FOR STARTERS******

  146. Brutal. I have TSN as part of my cable package but not Sportsnet Ontario.

Thanks for the Leafs TV info, I will be listening to Fan590 tonight.

    GO LEAFS GO!

  147. The Devils would be foolish to give up Holtz and a pick for a Dman and a question mark in goal. If they don’t get a goalie, they shouldn’t bother.

  148. Not a chance in hell. This article is a day late and a dollar short on all fronts. The cap constraint the wild are going through are for most part over after next year. That too me isn’t a time frame to trade their premier player for a depth defensemen one for sure blue chip prospect a could be promising futures prospect and one 1st round draft pick. There’s not enough there to make Minnesota want to do that.

  149. Another crazy rumor. If it’s the Coyote’s unprotected 2024 1st then that pick + Crouse would be a tempting start to a trade for Andersson alone but it’d take a little more than that and Calgary certainly won’t be throwing in Maniapane for free.

  150. One of worst trade proposals yet. Leafs are would get fleeced. Parayko is a shadow of his former self. Not physical. And not a top-4 on any contending team – with an awful contract. Lol. Niemela is a top- prospect that will be a cheap add to their revamped core next year. Jarnkrok also a very underrated winger. Plays up and down lineup with ease. No thank you at all from Leafs perspective. And they also toss in a 1st??? Lol. This must be a Blues beat reporter. Just brutal.

  151. Not nearly enough from Toronto, who get 2 very useful pieces while dumping 2 useless salaries. The first and Niemela are not enough for Parayko and Blais, and Toronto also needs to compensate St. Louis for eating Reaves and Jarnkroks salaries. Maybe add Minten and another high pick.

  152. I hope NJD don’t even consider this! Nemec, Holtz, and a 1st, this is not a good move on our side. Maybe a better defensemen with size can have good impact and be cheaper than Nemec and holtz!

  153. What they’re saying is the Leafs can’t win with the stars they’ve got? A few years ago Tavares was supposed to be the answer.

  154. THIS SUPER SEASON WE ARE HAVING, WILL NOT LAST!
    ( WHY ) ? WATCH THE D,THERE ARE (2) THAT MUST GO !
PLEASE WATCH THE GAME, NEVER MIND THE + – WATCH THE D.

  155. Love it when guys come on line trying to act as someone with knowledge on hockey an put out a stupid idea like this. You’re an idiot Rob

  156. Trading Eberle back to Oilers is a step backwards. They got rid of him after demonstrating an indifferent effort defensively during his last playoff with the Oilers. It was shocking really.

  157. If none of Svechnikov, Jarvis, Teravainen, nor Necas are available, Buchnevich should definitely not be included. Buchnevich alone commands a package bigger than what you list here. HARD PASS

Binner straight up for Teravainen on a sign and trade, especially realizing that Binner might be overtaken for the starting role again, this time by Hoefer, and the Hurricanes providing a better defensive structure to play behind, and Teravainen looking at an increased role with increased minutes, that could be a win-win both for the players involved as well as for the teams making the swap, but if the best players the Hurricanes part with are Bunting and Kotkaniemi, still a HARD PASS.

  158. I hope this doesn’t happen. While Lindholm is a good player, it’s hard to see this as an upgrade worth a future first round pick when the Pens really aren’t Stanley Cup contenders this year. I guess we’ll see what the GM’s think before the trade deadline. I’d rather see the Pens try for someone like Chychrun if they want to spend 1st round draft capital.

  159. This might be one of the worst trade proposals for Lindy that I have seen. Smith isn’t what the Flames need, the defender is a former 3rd rounder and the pick isnt for two years. Connie should be fired if this occurred.

  160. Not sure where your getting your information regarding this deal but it’s 100% false.
Doug Armstrong wouldn’t consider it especially for the players you mentioned.

  161. No thanks. This team is too beat up. They d, even with Tanev, is suspect due to youth and inexperience. Why mortgage future of holtz and 1sr round pick for a shot at playoffs and 1st rd exit. Wait for off-season and go after a sold too 4 shit down dman and goalie.

  162. If I’m making a trade with Edmonton and I’m Montreal, I would offer to take Jack Campbell’s full contract for Jake Allen, I would offer Mike Matheson and Sean Monahan with a fourth overall pick and try to land. Evan Bouchard. It would complete their defense and give them options to deal younger defense to solidify their offense and get a true offensive star.

They should be pushing for guys on teams like Columbus for Patrick Laine, or LA’s Quinton byfield, to bring in that size and skill.

  163. I would like to know why when you have the best fans in Denver Colorado you blackout the games to the Home fans aren’t we deserving of being able to watch the games of our home team who makes this decision and how can it be changed sincerely

    • Hi Lynda, here is the explanation on Avs games being blacked out:

The blackout of Colorado Avalanche games, or any local NHL team’s games, is primarily a result of the broadcasting rights agreements between the NHL, regional sports networks (RSNs), and national broadcasters. These blackouts are put in place to protect the financial interests of these entities and encourage attendance at the arena. Here’s how it works and what can be done about it:

Broadcasting Rights and Agreements: RSNs pay a significant amount of money for the exclusive rights to broadcast the games of local teams in their area. The idea is that if fans in the local market can watch all the games on TV, they might be less likely to buy tickets to attend in person. Therefore, to ensure that attendance remains high, certain games are blacked out on national services in the local market, pushing fans to either attend in person or watch through the RSN that holds the local broadcasting rights.

Contracts and Negotiations: The specific terms of blackouts are detailed in contracts between the leagues, RSNs, and broadcasters. These contracts are complex and negotiated to balance the interests of all parties involved, including the teams, broadcasters, and fans.

Fan’s Perspective and Pushback: From a fan’s perspective, these policies can be frustrating, especially in the modern era where digital streaming has become more prevalent. Fans who are unable to attend games in person for various reasons believe that they should still have the opportunity to support their team by watching the games on TV or online.

How Can It Be Changed?: Changing blackout policies is challenging because it involves renegotiating contracts between powerful entities with significant financial interests. However, fan pressure can make a difference. Here are a few steps fans can take:

Voice Your Concerns: Contact the Avalanche’s front office, the NHL, and the RSN that broadcasts the games. Expressing your dissatisfaction through official channels can bring attention to the issue.
Use Social Media and Petitions: These platforms can amplify your voice. A well-organized campaign that gains enough traction can lead to discussions among the decision-makers.
Support Legal or Legislative Actions: In some cases, fans have banded together to support legal or legislative actions that aim to change blackout policies. Keeping informed and supporting these initiatives can potentially lead to change.

  164. Great. Acquire more single-dimensional players and discard more toughness. Soft skills alone have never won a Stanley Cup. Was Kevyn Adams bullied growing up? Do the Sabres not offer the kind of benefits package where he can get over this and make the changes needed to make the team relevant? We’re not talking 30 moves; just unload 3 or 4 of your same-skillset prospects and pointless draft picks for 2 gritty D men and a gritty Forward. How come the fanbase knows what they need but they don’t?

  165. Far too much to give up as we know that Kuzmenko is a 40 goal scorer. Hoglander has become very valuable and versatile to the Canucks. He has far too much talent and has also become a pest to the opposition. Far too much to give up if the Canucks are including a first round pick. The Canucks can do far better elsewhere as I think a Guentzel trade would make far more sense.

  166. This is an utter joke, the Wild lose on this trade big time. A top 2 line center with a contract below $6 mil and he is a defensive presence that wins face-offs. Dont make me laugh.

  167. Buchnevich, a proven 30 goal scorer, is on a team friendly contract for next season. Neighbors is under team control for another 4 seasons and is having a breakout season. Anderson is an overpaid 3rd liner for 3 more seasons. It’s not hard to walk away from this lousy offer.

The picks need to be unprotected firsts from Habs and the prospects need to be elite if they’re going to cause a response other than hard pass on an offer with these financial considerations. Buchnevich and Neighbors will continue being superior players for as long as they bleed blue.

Blues will continue focusing on moving Scandella Kappanen Sundqvist and Blaise for 3rd round picks and listen to offers on Schenn Hayes and Saad

  168. Robertson has shown he has the talent to be a 7, and or 6. Insertable into a number 4 or higher. He has the natural ability too be a top 6 player. He needs to have a year to prove it. The chance to work and build his natural talent. Where as Bruce Jenner would be a working the third line or a top 6 player and a replacement for Matthew Knies and Matt with Travers and Tyler Bratuzie(you will have excuse me for any name misspelling)

  169. Rob, what are you smoking? You somehow think a guy who just got demoted to the AHL is equal in value to a guy who hasn’t missed a game since he made his debut 3 years ago, who last year scored 27 goals, and is on a similar pace this year? Throw in Montembault and we’ll talk.

  170. Hey Ron, what Montreal Canadiens fan is supplying these Habs rumours. Xhekaj for Mercer? Not in this lifetime. Mercer would bring a lot better return than that. I am not a fan of either team. Cheers, T

  171. If Columbus were to consider moving Jenner. Robertson would not be nearly enough to get him. In fact, I question why any NHL team would pursue Robertson. He has not shown an ability to be a regular NHL player, let alone as a potential top six guy. Anyone thinking that a tough competitor like Jenner could be acquired for a borderline bottom six guy like Robertson is dreaming.

  172. This trade doesn’t make Ottawa better this year or in the next couple years and therefore makes no sense.

They’d be dumb to trade him for a 3rd pair D, 4th line C, and a future low 1st round pick.

Kupari has shown little sign of improvement in 4 seasons and has 1 point.

  173. I think the author needs to study the Jets roster closer. Jets already have 2 extra D on the roster and that is before Ville H comes off of IR soon who is waiver exempt but would have made the team. This would actually add to the D logjam.

  174. OUR TEAM NEEDS A BETTER DEFENCE !
I COULD NAME (2), WATCH THE GAMES AND SEE WHO,
AND HOW MANY THEY LET GET PAST THEM !
NEVER MIND THE + – WATCH THE GAME AND SEE WHO’S
ON THE ICE WHEN THE OTHER TEAM SCORES .

  175. All I can say is that I hope to hell this is just an assinine rumor. I would part with Schmidt, Lambert and our first for Konecny and Philly’s second and that is it

  176. i don’t know about that trade at all, a 1st and 2nd line winger (under team control for this year and next) plus a 3rd round pick for an aging 2nd line center on an expiring contract, a waiver wire pickup dman and a 2nd round pick doesn’t add up. Vancouver’s strength is up the middle and they currently have 7 NHL dmen with Soucy about to return from injury.

  177. Interesting you failed to mention Crosby has a full NMC and has given less than zero indication he would waive it to move on from the only team he knows, and in doing so, would break up the longest and certainly one of the greatest trios in NHL history

  178. Love Crosby, but the Leafs don’t need offense, they need a defenseman.

No point giving up a blue chip prospect and a 1st for a player that will retire in a few years.

  179. If they can get Marner to waive his NMC then why cant they get Tavares to waive his ? In a perfect world they would rather keep WIlly Mathews and Marner and get rid of Jt’s $11M hit

  180. Why would the Flyers trade Rasmus Ristolainen, they are playing some of the best hockey in years, plus Toronto doesn’t have cap space for his contract at $5.5 million and a cap hit of $5.1 million. Be much wiser to add Ilya Lyubushkin, at $2,750.000 (2024 5 round pick) and or Tyler Tucker from St. Louis at 750K (2026 6 round pick) and still have some money left to trade for a forward …..then trade one of your defenceman, Timmins, Lagesson along with Robertson for a forward with size like a Lawson Crouse (wishful thinking) but more realistically a player like Brett Leason from Anaheim or a Givani Smith from the Sharks.

  181. But a guy swinging a 2 hander across another guy’s head gets nothing. That’s the problem with player safety. It is so inconsistent

  182. Not so sure about this. Kyle Dubas let Ilya walk? Why did they not keep him? Now it will cost the Leafs to acquire Ilya. Makes no sense. T.O. needs a defenseman who can help Reilly. Possibly a leadership type of guy! Who plays similar to what Luke Schenn does! And has speed & physicality in his game.

  183. Every time I go and read up on Tanev, I read that he is an average D-Man. So why give up prospects for an average D-Man making that kind of money? Even if you got a D-Man who can not just help defense but be a leader as a defenseman on the team! I am sure M.R. cannot do it on his own! Far as a D-Man Look in Columbus.

  184. 16 is Trevor Linden’s old number and is retired. You’re not the first to make this faux pas. Canucks.com also had it up on their roster section too. We’ll give you a pass. He’s flipped it upside down. He’s now 91.

    • then you are not a Leaf fan as this player could not play defense to save his life at MINUS 10 after 16 games give me a break. Leafs need a defensive Dman that can shut down the opposition and you think this guy is the solution LMFAO. Leafs already have a boat load of players just like him.

  185. There is 0% chance Marner moves as a favour to the team. He got a FULL NMC because he wants to be a lifetime Leaf and have the power during negotiations.

  186. Wrong Buffalo and Dallas aren’t linked to Patrick Kane, Both are out of the running, It’s down to Detroit and Florida.

  187. this is made up nonsense

    its not a blockbuster

dumba is nowhere close to the player he was

1 new player isnt going to help the oilers, especially one like dumba.

and oilers just gave connor brown $4mil and last season camplbell $25mil and nurse $74mil. oilers have proven they cant handle a cap.

time to make up another trade

  188. go for huberdeau i liked zadorov , for girard and someone else extra and for defence try bring carlo from the bruins home to colorado get rid of johnston

  189. tavares nylander reilly is the half team /money/get rid of them and couple other minor players and get mcdavid for once if they ever thinking of getting a cup.

  190. So wat they need is to get some defence and once tavarres contract is up spread the money around getting some third and forth line improvement instead of one 12 mil player they need depth Third and forth lines need to up their game dramticly Some stay at home big defence maybe two guys like Tanev and Zadorov And the cups will come Thats a fact jack

  191. This scenario could happen. Tavares $11 million will be off the books, Nylander quite possibly will not be with the Leafs. Have a core three of Matthews, McDavid and Marner. The triple M line!

  192. Ahahahahhahahahahahahahhaha… that’s the funniest trade “rumour” I have ever heard. That woyld NEVER happen. If they can afford Nylander, no way they can. Afford McDavid without getting rid of half the team.

  193. I can totally see this happening in a few years. Tavares’ salary will be off the books and Marner or Nylander will no longer be on the team.

  194. Marner will not be traded before Nylander. He is much more valuable than Nylander considering that he flirts with 100 points each season and is their best penalty killer.

  195. Nylander has been the most consistent player on the Leafs for years now, the fans and media has to get in their heads. just because he sat out most of a season for a contact deal, Marner sat out 20 games for his. I don’t see fans and media giving him a hard time, last season Sheldon changed Nylander and Tavares line to accommodate Mathews and Marner because they were not preforming. The fans and media have blind eyes. Nylander has set a team record this year so far, and been consistent…. Mathews has 3 hat tricks and Marner…..? and inconsistent.

Trade Nylander like Kadri and get rid of Babcock, you still have nothing, so obviously the fans and media have no idea what they are looking at.

Leafs need defensive dept like Babcock was trying to do.

  196. I wish all these so-called NHL “insiders” would do some digging and expose the truth. So far all they are doing is putting out click-bait stories

  197. Will this be another Cam Neely blunder?
Hopefully not the core Vancouver Canucks have now has potential just a few more tweaks to add size and grit players on short term then reload again and again ?

  198. Just too many soft goals with Samsonov. Woll is legit number one.
Jones is a very good back-up. Brodie is a liability defender. Do the deal

    • Wanna bet, Kane isn’t signing in the west, So Colorado is out and he’s not signing with that dump in Toronto or anywhere in Canada.

  199. I think the Leafs have finally found a legit homegrown talented goalie in Woll. I am ok with the trade scenario above. I have always like Dumba.

  200. Kane is not signing with the Avs or Stars, he will be playing with his buddy Auston Matthews in Toronto on a minimum contract. Book it!

  201. Just made a list of the six games I will be able to watch this entire season. I will put them on all calendars and hope to be able to see as many of them as possible. How sad that it has come to this.

  202. Such a shame. I remember Mantha dominating the Word Junior tournament. Injuries have hurt his career. But maybe a change of scenery and one last shot on another team can turn the career around?

Caps will definitely have to eat some of his salary if a trade is to happen.

  203. People in Canada are having trouble putting food on the table with the pathetic government in Ottawa (who only knows lies and corruption) drive up the cost of living makes it hard for anyone to budget for entertainment. In addition the NHL with it’s Mob connected commissioner makes the majority of intelligent people question the honesty of the officiating and the integrity of professional sports in general as the problem is not unique to the NHL you see it in all the leagues now.

  204. No question that the NHL and the officials do like Canadian teams, just watch the ref’s if you don’t believe me, would help if the Jets were better than a average team and were above 500 a lot more than they are, a lot less crappy and non calls would help add all that in with the whopping cost to go to a game in Winnipeg and I will not be surprised when they are gone.

  205. Would it be possible to put the standing page on a different page. So we don’t have to scroll through the whole thing to get to the standings

  206. Buffalo better be calling the Preds! If they want to contend for the playoffs, Saros is the answer. With their current goalies, they are not a playoff team.

    • Hi Terry,

Yes, you have signed up and paid for the pool. You are all good. You should’ve received a confirmation email of your team when you signed up.

Everyone’s picks that have paid for the pool will be posted on Wednesday, October 11, at 10:00 PM ET.

  207. just wondering… I submitted a team and email transferred the funds to the email on the post. does it take a little time for your roster to be on there? thanks in advance

  208. Canucks already have a million wingers. Get the best young player or prospect you can, if that happens to be a winger then so be it.

  209. This deal is bad, but a deal like this is what management is left with. No team is going to do the Leafs any favors as cap space is at a premium. Placing players on waivers could get you under the cap, but then your just left with holes in the starting lineup.

  210. What nonesense. Waive Jones and Gambrell. Waive one of Gio or Timmins. Send down one of Holmberg or Robertson. Boom, cap compliant!

  211. Trading lilegren now would be like trading Randy Carlyle back when…..didn’t turn out so well. Giving up 2 very useful players needed for a cup run for 1 average player just to get compliant makes No sense unless there’s a higher calibre player coming back. Clearly nonsense imo

  212. Starting to get a little miffed with Pinto – yes he got 20 goals as a rookie, but he was also playing with two very good wingers who had sub-par years due to him. His defensive game is awful and his consistency leaves a lot to be desired (eg. 8 goals in first 10 games, 12 in last 72). Bottom line, he’s slotted in as a 3rd line player, has very little experience, has not achieved a whole lot and needs to prove what he’s worth.
I can very easily see him scoring a $2 mil. deal and then only potting 15 goals.

  213. Pardon my hockey ignorance, but if the Sharks…or anybody for that matter…want another player included so they will take Joseph, wouldn’t it be cheaper to put him on wavers and either have somebody pick him up, or then be able to send him to Binghamton?

    • No one’s likely going to take a 3 million dollar cap hit off waivers for a 20 point guy. And sending him to Belleville (we don’t have a farm team in Binghamton anymore) doesn’t save enough cap space to be worth it.

  214. Is there any thought to changing the goalie selections to a team goalie approach? Much less
punitive since goalies seem to be more injury prone than skaters generally..

    thanks B

  215. I see this as a potential epic mistake Josh Norris is still in a non contact jersey at camp and has already “tweaked” his bad surgically repaired shoulder

  216. This makes no sense for the Flames at all. Besides being an overpay for Girard Calgary doesn’t need or want a top 4 replacement for Hanifin. They want a scoring forward preferably a right shot.

  217. Leads put themselves way over salary cap now they got to get rid of people witch other teams know they will get good trades and good trades in the long run for them so leafs left themselves kinda vuneravle and to loose more then gain with that said gi leafs go

  218. I’m pretty sure because he’s injured, the contract is paid by the insurance. I’m not as sure about bonus payments though. That’s why teams will trade for contracts that players will never play again. They don’t have to pay out the money that’s owed.

  219. I see Mitch Marner finally busting out and putting up 110 points this year.

Connor Bedard will be north of 70 points in his rookie season.

  220. Bo Byrum is a better commodity and contract for the Avalanche right now. Plus the Avalanche have their own cap problems. Keep Nylander and the 10 mil contract. Avalanche have to get Mikko and Devon signed for next season before they take any more contracts questionable contracts.

  221. Trading a proven 80-90 point 40 goal scorer for a 22 year old d man with a history of concussions who’s never even played a full season in the NHL. What are you smoking?

  222. Been wanting him to get traded to Colorado for a couple of years now. Just not for Byram. They can have Girard, a middle six forward, prospects, and picks

  223. Please make this trade.

Matthews is signed. Marner will be signed next offseason. We can’t have Nylander on the team at $10 million a year.

  224. It appears that the bruins are linked according Jimmy Murphy to just about 75% of the centres in the nhl that guy (Murphy) is the biggest gossip since Rona Barrett.

  225. I’d say Shane would definitely make an improvement over Coyle. Could play on first line if Zacha falters. Trade Lysell he has shown very little in the WHL, Europe he was awful and Providence hardly noticeable. Beecher’s even worse do not trade Matthew Potras this guy has got it best second rounder Since Bergy and Krecji. Honourable mention Mason Lohrei watched a lot of NCAA and OHL games very impressed with these two.

  226. The senators should petition the NHL for that fraud the leafs perpetrated by putting Murray on LTIR. Buying him out should have been their only option which would have cleared $1.5 m for the Sens.

  227. It is great to treat your players well and tell them what your thinking but in the end a lot still depends on training camp performance and trade offers. I think Hughes will do what is best for the team, while trying to be fair to the players. Someone will be odd man out.

  228. I hope he signs with Toronto or Detroit or any team but my NY Rangers. Kakko needs an extended look on the 1st line once and for all. Also, Kakko and Lafreniere are never going to get to prove themselves, especially on the PP, if they keep giving those minutes to others. Finally, I’m tired of constantly giving up our limited picks for past-their-prime trade deadline rentals. Enough with the negativity towards our two lottery picks when they haven’t gotten the same opportunities as other top picks. You can have Kane.

  229. Leafs took a GM from a loser squad who couldn’t retain its stars..great!..what’s next,Sutter?
We don’t need ANY fLames players!

  230. Leafs already have some of the best forwards in the league and enough talent available that they will be fighting for spots. Treliving needs to make some moves to improve the blue line.
    DEFENCE ! DEFENCE! DEFENCE!

  231. Will anyone within the Leaf’s organization ever wake up and finally understand that the Leaf’s need defense that’s how you win championships they don’t need anymore goal scorers please for the love of god get a defense

  232. Been a Rangers fan since1957 & have seen lots of stupid trades. This is just another one. Keep Schneider. Trade overpriced older fools you bought last.

  233. Bottom line is Treliving missed the boat when he had an opportunity to trade the prima donna Marner a the draft. Now it looks like Nylander will be traded, and Marner will walk because Dubas is gone and Trev won’t be paying another kings ransom for a whining puke. Marner can hold another team hostage from moving forward with his overinflated contract. Woo Hoo! Marner gone and Tavares will be right behind him.

  234. I like it, but it’s not even enough.
Send a mid-to-late draft pick along with Nylander, or a minor leaguer.
I saw another comment saying Nylander is overpaid. So is Parayko. So it’s give and take lol

    • I don’t know 6’6 230 pounds 150 blocked shots and 120 hits
Paired with irresponsible Klingberg his 1/2 point a game is going to only go up.

  235. I’d rather the package be Parayko + salary retention vs. the other player + pick. Say what you will about age 32, but he’s a big, 1st pairing RHD who can skate + hit. It’s not like we have an over-abundance of that anywhere on the roster or in the minors, plus the salary retention offers an option to fill any remaining offensive void via FA. Kane, Kessel on a 1-year deal?

  236. I would try Nylander at centering marner and bertuzzi, with Matthew’s centering Tavares and (insert name here). If Nylander can play top line centre, he would be a steal at 10 million. Worth a try, might get more in a trade at deadline

  237. Have to agree with Al Perry…..has to earn his way, to get paid the big bucks….just that he failed the past two years, to make an appearance in the playoffs, failed miserably or was he even on the
ice…? McDavid & McKinnon both played like they wanted to win !

  238. Colton Parayko will never agree to go to Toronto, he is smarter than that and he controls where to go if he wants to go anywhere. He already said he wants to be in St. Louis

  239. Willie is worth that much but I don’t think the Leafs have that cap space. He had a strong season and was probably our best player in the postseason or second only to Reilly. I’d love for them to find a way to keep him

  240. I’d take the trade. Love willy but he’s not worth 10mil. I think the return is a bit much paranko and a first should be enough. But I’d rather move JT then willy

  241. Parayko won’t waive, the Blues don’t need Nylander and won’t pay him 10+mil when they have Kyrou at just over 8 mil.

IOW this is just another Leafs fantasy rumor with nothing real behind it.

  242. Well I’m probably in the minority here but I’d make that trade today. Not that I’m want to move Nylander it’s that Parayko, is real need on this backend and locked up for the next seven years. Don’t know anything about Jake neighbor’s is and what his potential is. The first rnd pick would make for either the pick itself or a bargaining chip at the deadline. If you the Blue’s are considering a move like this and Parayko would accept this move I think that Tre would have to put his last and final offer on the table and give Nylander a day or two to consider that he signs or becomes a Blue’s player. Not sure that the Leaf’s would miss Nylander’s production with Berttruzi, Domi and Knies, there to pickup the slack. But the D would be heading in the right direction at least and with two first rnd picks at the deadline picking up another quality defender should be a none issue. Will à deal like this happen, not likely it’s too good to be true. Cheerz 🍻

    • You obviously haven’t watched him play. I’ve seen all his NHL games and he’s definitely worth that. He could have gotten more elsewhere but chose to remain a Leaf. It’s fans like you who run good players out of town with you uninformed and petty comments. Furthermore he has scored more goals than any other player including McDavid and McKinnon since he entered the League!

  243. Bruins do not need a center right now. They should be fine going into the season as long as they do not sustain any injuries. Not very deep.

  244. The Bruins don’t have any assets left, the can’t make another trade or rebuild the team.. The owners are clueless and Sweeney is a Yes man who destroyed the team by inept and incompetent ownership running this team.

  245. Scheifele won’t be a bruin, Lindholm will be though. Sweeney just got back from his vacay in the keys. He spent the entire time on his 80 foot yacht the “The Never Get Anything Done,”.

  246. Scheifele will be traded but not to the Bruins.

The Rangers have the assets the Jets want and that will be his likely destination.

  247. Marner is an elite player, no doubt! However he is too soft, no grit or bite to his game, but the Islanders need a point producer for sure & Marner brings that… (I’m all in on Marner or Nylander,) Dobson is overrated thus far, but has serious potential. Romanov is the only player I do not want to see go, he is a TANK that hits like a battering ram, the Isles would miss him dearly. I love Palms but – Marner, yeah – nuff said.

    Marner, Nelson & Walstrom
    Barzal, Horvat & Lee
    Dufour-(Holmstrom), Pageau & Engvall
    Fasching, Cizekas & Martin-(Johnston)

    Pulock, Pelech
    Mayfield, Romanov
    Aho, Bolduc

    Sorokin
    Varlamov

Not exactly a contender, but at this point I’ll take it, lol. Maybe try to add Patrick Kane to the mix…I’d rather have Nylander, he was the most noticeable Leaf forward in the playoffs. Of course none of this will happen so it’s a pointless conversation.

  248. Who says Debrusk is staying with the bruins? they need a number one centre don’t kid yourself into thinking Zacha is it, he isn’t. adequate second line centre but he is not a first line centre. Coyle is not the answer to the second line. Get busy Sweeney!

  249. Habs are going no where. Trade Allen in November/December when teams free up salary cap space and get some much needed draft picks or prospects.

  250. La Kings can and will take out Vegas
but I don’t see Dallas making it to the finals. Of course I’m a Kings fan so I’m hoping for the best.

  251. We would be taking on more cap, ya meathead. Plus it’s Marner, never ever be an in division trade. Wake up. Can you at least be realistic with your rumor.

  252. I wish everyone would let Copley have the net as the # 1. He did outstanding last year and I think he should have been the starter in playoffs. He certainly earned it by saving the Kings season. I don’t think this year is when we would be making another huge trade for a goalie.

  253. Hellyubuck isnt the answer for LA. the top four teams in the west are the knights, oilers, kings and stars as is. Colorado with no Landeskog isn’t going to beat these teams. Rob Blake probably makes a deal for a goalie at the deadline. Copley was 24-6 last year so let’s not write him off completely.

  254. Trade him for Arte Moreno worst owner in baseball. It’s ok as Arte can pretend that he loves Hockey, buy the Winnipeg Jets, and change the team name to Los Angeles Jets.

  255. So silly I shouldnt even comment. This trade would throw the Leafs back years with only Dobson worth looking at. Romanov is a number 4 D man. Palimeri is a third line player. Marner is an elite RW. He is an all star who will pocket 100 points. He will also be in the top two lines for a future Team Canada. Silly, silly trade. Marner is a elite player and the Leafs would demand an elite player in return.

  256. Marner is the best player on the Leafs, yes, better than Mathews. He’s not going anywhere. The new GM needs to build some confidence in this market before attempting a trade of this magnitude,

  257. Love Schneider.Don’t really want to give him up but I would if we had to. I’d do Scheifele and Dillon, both with 50% cap retention, for Chytil & Schneider. Scheifele, with an extension, would be a great addition. It would allow Trocheck to move to 2nd line RW. Goody takes 3rd line C. Adds a lot of speed to the top 6. Dillon adds desperately needed toughness.

    • Taveras $11 million in 2025 and Brodie’s $$$$5 million in 2024 along with Muzzin’s $6 million in 2024 is going to allow the Leafs to do what they want.

  258. This would be a nonsensical trade for NYR, for lots of reasons. Schneider is a rising star who will enable the Rangers to trade Trouba (and his expensive contract) after next season. Chytil has shown the potential to be a solid 2C (or a well above average 3C) and his contract is reasonable. The Rangers do not have the cap room to resign Schiefele after next season (even if they trade Trouba). Finally, trading young players like Schneider and Chytil for the sake of going “all in” for one season mortgages the future. (Last year’s deadline trades for Kane and Tarasenko didn’t get them over the hump – in fact, those deals arguably damaged the team’s overall chemistry by necessitating multiple position changes).

    • 100% agreed. Schneider is a non-starter in any trade talks – org doesn’t have alot of depth on the right side of defense. If they were looking to trade Chytl (which I think they should not do), it would have to be for a top 6 RW in same age range and contract term as Chytl.

  259. Brobby isn’t going anywhere. Enough throwin this name out there in rumours. We have 600k in cap space lol. Get real about getting a top 3 Dman. Broberg will be much better this year. He got some decent minutes in the playoffs he’s better than Vinny by a lot. He can play both right and left side so I don’t get why ya’ll are saying this. He’s 22 and will probably and should push for top 5 minutes. Smooth skater, good stick, closes the gap really well and has good board work, snaps a good and hard pass, has a good shot, moves around the offensive zone very well. Just needs to get some man strength. Should be a huge year for brobby.

  260. Please New York, PLEASE send Schneider to Winnipeg for Schiefele!!!, New York will Love Him!!!, it’s Exactly what needs to happen!!!,Please,Pease,Please!!!!!, Go Jets!!!!!

    • recent trades b/t WPG and NYR:
Feb 2019: WPG gets Kevin Hayes. Rangers get Brendan Lemieux, 2019 1st rd and 2022 4th rd. Trade was not so bad until
June 2019: WPG gets N Pionk and their 2019 1st rd pick back for Trouba – then sign Trouba to that ridiculous contract (nowhere else he was going to play with his wife’s residency in NYC). Pionk and Trouba have basically the same stats last 4 seasons – Pionk is over 2 mil cheaper
March 2022: WPG gets Morgan Barron 22 1st rd 22nd rd and 23 5th rd. Rangers get Copp. This trade was one of the biggest overpays in deadline history (Copp had 14pts in playoffs. Frank Vatrano had 13pts and only cost a 4th rd pick)

  261. Rangers aren’t trading Schneider. Who knows if they can afford him next year, but they are not making that trade.

Though I would love Scheifele in New York!

    • Granted this is a complete rumor. I don’t like this trade for NYR, but I can see them making it. JD is impulsive and probably views this as a major upgrade for win-now mode even if Schief is out in a year. Schneider is a stud, but with Jones in the wings, they might view him as expendable (which I disagree with).

    • Schneider most likely signs a bridge deal similar to Lindgren’s 1st deal after his entry level deal expired (3 yrs with 3mil AAV). Bigger question: Will the Rangers be able to retain Lindgren and Kakko as both will be arbitration-eligble RFA. I could see a scenario of Lindgren being traded in-season (if Rangers nowhere near playoff spot) or rights traded next offseason – organization does have decent amount of depth on the left side.

    • Yes, they DEFINITELY can afford BOTH Schneider and TROUBA as Trouba is already LOCKED IN for 3 more years at $8M and the CAP is FINALLY increasing by MORE than only $1M per year to $87.5M next season and supposed to increase to around $92M in 2025-26 —- the final year of both Panarin and Trouba’s contracts. So going forward, the Rangers should be in PRETTY GOOD Financial shape regarding their Capspace as they already have about 12 players under multi-year contracts including Igor.

  262. Then trade doesn’t make sense from a Rangers perspective. Chytil has 3 more years at a very decent AAV, the Rangers do not need another LD, and Schneider will be 2nd pair RD if/when they get rid of Trouba and his albatross of a contract next season (more trade flexibility as his deal will then be modified no trade). Plus the Rangers will not be able to re-sign Scheifele next year. Rangers should stay away from trades with WPG – last few haven’t really panned out

  263. Leafs fans annd media are a miserable group that fail basic math. As a player who would want to play there. Recently there are player openly saying they wouldn’t play there.

  264. Makes absolutely no sense for the Leafs. Just someone throwing spaghetti on the wall to see if it will stick. The Leafs need defenseman, not lose them.

  265. If the Leaf’s are working on a trade with the Ducks take that trade that you presented and just throw that out the window. If Treliving has Lilygren and Robertson in this proposed pkg Tre needs a much better return than what’s been presented here. Lilygren is just starting to come into is own and there’s upside to his game, as far as Robertson goes he has lot’s of upside to his game once he can stay healthy and that’s just a matter of time. So this is the return I think that Tre should be looking for in return, this starts with a player that the Kyle acquired and then let him walk at seasons end and that’s Luybushkin, at least he brought a physical presence with him and Vatrano and Vaakanaian, at least you’ve got two possible defenders and a winger that can play either side. TJ didn’t look very good in the playoffs, he’s showing signs of slowing down, now I’m don’t like that they seem to be throwing in the towel on Lilygren when it looked like he was just showing some good signs of improvement. What’s scary about moving on from Robertson could come back to bite them, you know this kid has some talent and he’s still very young and at some point these injuries will stop. But being stuck between a rock and a hard place Tre needs to create Cap relief just to get under the Cap before the season gets started, something has to give somewhere. Who knows what this season will bring with Nylander yet to be signed or traded this could be the last of the core four. Tre brought in Berttruzi and Domi that makes for a formidable set of forwards to be sure. Tre must improve this backend if this team has any chance of being successful in the playoffs end of story. There’s still some time to improve the backend or we’ll probably have to wait till the deadline before something happens. It’s wait and see if Tre can improve this group, let’s just hope that he’s got something up his sleeve. Cheerz

    • I know right. lol As if…. I wld have considered this rumor until they made it just made up talking about a prospect the CBJ wld not trade. Not for Hanifan. I mean come on. U got some of that for my pipe?

  266. Not Lilly. Offer Brodie, Niemela, and Robertson for Lyibushkin , Vatrano and a second?

Then offer Comtois and Ritchie a PTO?

  267. No to Backlund. No. 1 he’s 34 & is a second line centre at best. Debrusk is better and still young. We already have a second line centre Zacha. There have been so many rumours floating around Murphy makes em up the fly. Scheifele or Lindholm or bust!

  268. Fans will lose their minds if the Flames only get picks and no roster player. I would start the fire Conroy petition myself.

  269. meh my bad, I didn’t realize this proposal was for both Backlund AND Hanifin. Definitely not enough for both of them especially not if they’re taking on Middleton too.

  270. That could work if the Flames are ok with taking on Middleton but having 2 years left on his contract could be a problem in 2024-25.

Ohgren is an intriguing prospect. He’s a goal scorer and Calgary needs more finishers. He has good size too which is great with so many of Calgary’s best most skilled young players and prospects being on the small side.

  271. Enough about this BS pay him what he deserves & move on. Quit this trap about always trading American born players. Few if any have made the team better. I’ve been a Rangers fan for 66 years!! I’m tired of trading players who grew up in the system for questionable others. Keep Him!!!!

  272. My god, first Scheifele’s coming to Boston than he’s not. This has been going on all summer sports writers fantasies. They make it up and then tear it down. Surely there must be something else going on than Aesop’s fairytales. So far there’s been approximately at least a dozen sports writers, Murphy’s the worst, they make up these things, only a few days later to proclaim it ain’t happening. Cut it out! You’re giving me a headache! Knowing Sweeney we’ll most likely end up with Toews.

  273. As others have said.. I wouldn’t be able to justify a one for one trade from the Bruins side. 17 goals and 40 points is solid. Good two way player, but Debrusk can go out and get you 25-30 goals every year now that his heads on straight. He’s much younger. Stays healthy. The Bruins need a center, but overpaying in trades to fill a need will get you fired real quick. I’ll use Debrusk as a trade chip, but we better be getting back a real good player in return. Get younger, Keep your young studs, and live with the results. The future’s already mortgaged. Don’t need to be trading away the young guys we have for 3/4 value.

  274. I believe the bruins can do better as well Although Pageau is a step up from Coyle, Coyle is a third liner and top notch 3rd liner. If they don’t land Scheifele or Lindholm don’t even bother. It’s just a temp fill in

  275. Jake Debrusk can get the Bruins a better center. Pageaus age, injury history and numbers aren’t good enough. Coyle had more points and a way better plus minus than Pageau. Isles need to add a draft pick or more if they want the scoring speedy winger. I can’t see a one for one being fair for the Bruins.

  276. Nylander for Hanifin is the most rediculous trade rumour I have ever heard. Hanafin wants to play in the USA. The Leafs need to dump salary since they are way over the salary cap. Hanafin gets almost the same salary as Nylander so this trade would not help their cap. Nylander is a soft player and not the type of player the Flames need.

  277. I agree trade Matthew’s to Calgary for hanifin and 3 good players. Matthew’s expendable. Remember when Habs traded wickenhiser and got 3 players and Habs won stanely cups. Let’s get this done. Frees up a lot of cap space to sign good players

  278. Get real! Nylander is a top flight forward who scored 40 goals, 88 points and who keeps improving each season for a mediocre defenseman. If Trelivin makes that trade he better not go out alone in the city. There will be an absolute uproar. Not only among fans, but the Leaf players too. Therefore we have to label his rumour as nonsense.

  279. Myers’s this Myers that, it is all BS, as i have said before, who carried the load of time on the ice. The coach knows who he can rely on!

  280. Who’s to say that Calgary isn’t on Nylander’s 15 team no trade list that was submitted on July 1? If I’m Nylander and I wanted to stay in Toronto, I would put on the team that my new GM just came from and has the most relationships with.

  281. It took Moses 40 yrs to get out from the dessert. It’s going to take the leafs another 50 yrs to smarten up.They need to watch Ted Lasso to get the true meaning behind the comedy.

  282. Myers is a liability. He plays well when he wants to, shows flashes of greatness one minute and gives the puck away the next. He makes poor decisions in his own zone as well and has been caught up ice more than a few times. Lose Myers and you gain automatically.

  283. Treliving should have traded Marner at the draft. We now have 2 more years of his showboating, only to see him move on. Everyone knows that Matthews will be leaving, and Nylander will be traded and the leafs will be in another rebuild. No movement clause’s destroyed the leafs and Shanahan should be fired, and he can shove his plan up his ass until he chokes.

    • 100% agree Marner should of been traded. Atleast Nylander shows up in the playoffs when it matters but we’re gonna lose him because they kept Marner. I hope you’re right about Marner leaving in 2 years but I’m afraid they’re gonna sign the cry baby again and we know he won’t take a team friendly deal.

    • I also have been pondering the very same viewpoint of “why didn’t Shanahan get fired?” Dubas was in fact the very reason the Leafs have had all the success in the last better part of a decade. All at the cusp of being a playoff success. Treliving was nothing short of the biggest mistake to replace one of the most innovative GMs in the NHLs new era.

    • Nobody knows Mathews will be moving on. In fact, it is pretty clear he will resign. There is no rebuild happening as the core are all 25 and 26 except J.T. and he will never get that kind of money again. So this tells me you are either a Leaf basher or not a very good hockey fan. Please try to make sense.

    • Agree 100%, Nylander was the only core 4 that showed up for the playoffs. Would rather say farewell to Matthews in exchange for a stronger defence.

  284. Leaf fans can only hope and have their thick ply tissues by their side.
By the way I’ll be selling suckies for the real babies.

    • No Matthews is bad. Nylander shows up in the playoffs. Matthews has not shown up in the playoffs. So trade matthews for hanifin and Anderson and 2 more good players. Are you listening Mr manager.

    • Wrong matthews and mariner are buddies trade both of them and get good strong physical guys that can feed the puck to Nylander. Had I
Enough of weakling mariner. To small. Figure skater. Whimp. Showboating

  285. Who comes up with this dumb shit. That would be the stupidest trade in NHL History. Do you really think Conroy is that stupid. Trade away Players that are worth a first pick each, but retain half a salary & a couple of no names? Your on glue man.

  286. As a leaf fan I love this prediction. I think the one thing I would change is LA beating Edmonton but other than that I like this 👍

  287. Trade him already , they have a few guys that could easily replace him and be more physical . The only thing Myers has is size but he never uses that in his play , Matt Irwin could easily take his place

  288. He’s not going to sign with either the Sharks or coyotes long term. If he signs with one it’ll be a one year contract worth much less than 7mil. I don’t think any team would sign him long term for top dollar. His underlying numbers have dropped off the last two years not just the boxcars

  289. I think they could have some kind of plans to trade a few of these players, but they just took a break from the recent trade rumors. They have to get rid of quite a few players I think, it would free up space for an acquisition if they so choose.

  290. That would be a fair trade imo. Peak really is needed by the Canucks and Beauvilliere will really help Columbus. The other pieces would be for the cap room.

  291. Perhaps not but the further this drags on you have to question the loyalty. I say he should be traded…hopefully, Conroy got the memo on what happened with Johnny hockey. Get the best deal and pull the pin.

  292. The Canucks aren’t leaving a hole in the 2C with this trade, Zacha is promising but unproven. Age is closer to core of Peterson, Hughes, Hronek, Demko.

Cap space isn’t an issue as soon as Tyler Myers is moved for $1M in real cash after the bonus is paid in September. Tucker Poolman will be on permanent LTIR – another Jim Penning “gift” (like Micheal Ferland was).

Not sure how the numbers work for Boston as they’re at the cap now, and Vancouver’s not taking money back. Tell me how the proposal doesn’t put Boston $5M over the cap.

Boston needs something like it, without more changes they’re a bubble team.

    • Granlund doesn’t work for Calgary. Jeff Carter could work though with a lower cap hit and just 1 year left on his contract. Calgary could still retain some salary on Hanifin just not 50%.

  293. Calgary counters with Hanifin at 50% retained for Pickering and the 1st. Pittsburgh can find another way to move Granlund and his cap hit.

  294. We don’t know how healthy Murray was in the playoffs. He might have been able to play but 100% is doubtful. A team is never going to admit to an injury during the playoffs. With all his injuries his doctors should be telling him not to play if he wants any sort of life after hockey.

  295. Miller isn’t going anywhere any year soon especially not for this trade. I can see many teams talking to Calgary since they have players that don’t want to resign there.

  296. You are out of your mind that the Bruins would move a 1st, Lysell and Zacha who they just resigned for JT Miller. Sweeney may as well hand in resignation papers with a trade like that.

  297. As far as i am concerned, nylander should be staying, he is a damned good player.if i was to trade i traveris, i like him but i think nylander is a much better player.. it makes me mad..as far as i am concerned, he played better in the playoff than mathews and travaris put together..it also ticks me off that bunting is gone, yes he was a bit of a scrapper, but he is a good player,, but what do they do, hire another rough guy..i just dont get it..just my opinion

  298. Makes me laugh the f out loud when u read comments like “Tyler”. Clowns like this obviously haven’t watched more than 2 minutes of J.T. Miller playing. He’s absolutely a capable first line center with a bit of a mean streak. I’ve watched him play since, and before, he arrived in Vancouver. The first half of his new contract will absolutely benefit whichever team he ends up playing for. The second half? Now that’s a gamble. But hey, Ovechkin looks good at his age, why not Miller?

    • Why not trade J.T. Miller to the Capitals for veteran winger Anthony Mantha, a 1st-round draft pick, and a prospect such as center Hendrix Lapierre? Then, Miller and Ovechkin could both look good for their age on the same line while Ovi chases Gretzky’s all-time goal record?

    • That’s because they live in their Boston bubble listening to that dumpster fire of an announcer Jack Edwards. I’ve never heard a worse homer than him. His play by play during the Lucic/Rechlicz fight belongs in the homer hall of shame.

  299. Why would the Bruins do this? Another first round pick gone, a heavily depleted system and core players retiring, moving a promising young piece, one of their top prospects from said depleted pipeline already that they need to stock and hold onto what they have. Plus, being limited and pressed in cap space themselves. This is laughable and makes absolutely no sense for them to make a trade that looks like that.

    • The Canucks will unload a winger before trading Miller, he’s too important to trade at the moment. He takes important faceoffs and hits, fights, and scores at a ppg or better pace. If Boeser does better this year because he’s free of his emotional baggage. And is actually training rather than playing in Da beauty league, he’ll give the Canucks all the leverage they need to get a decent return.

  300. The Bruins will have to wait until one of the prospects are ready to play center. I know fans think I’m crazy for saying this, however I believe the Bruins have 3 or 4 center prospects which are on the verge of breaking into the NHL. Poitras, Merkulov, Harrison and Gasseau are all on the way up the organizations depth chart. In terms of talent Poitras is a masterful setup type center which the Bruins want to shoot more often, very high hockey IQ, working hard at being a 3 zone player. Merkulov is more of all around points producer, better goal scorer than Poitras at the moment, high hockey IQ not as good in all 3 zones. While Poitras and Merkulov are just under 6 feet Harrison has the size 6′ 2″, speed and a great accurate shot, he can score from a lot of different places and a high hockey IQ. Gasseau is the longest shot to make the Bruins big club, you have to love his size 6′ 4″ 211 lbs. Great hands, quick release, crafty in small areas, along boards and in the corners. Good in all zones, continues to work on his 200 foot game. I’m not an expert, it’s my humble opinion the Bruins should let one or two of these guys develop in the NHL, if they are close at the end of training camp. It would be great to see Poitras at center, Merkulov at left wing, Lohrei on defense stick with the Bruins.

    1. Marchand, Poitras and DeBrusk
    2. Zacha, Krejci and Pastrnak
    3. van Riemsdyk, Coyle and Frederic
    4. Lauko, Boqvist, Geekie
Extras: Greer, Lucic, Megna, Brown and Steen. I don’t know who has 2 way contracts and who doesn’t.

  301. and the Canucks would lose a first line center and lower the chances of making the playoffs this coming season . I don`t see it happening

    • Give me a break if you’re the Canucks you trip over your feet running to make this deal. There’s no way the bruins would ever do this, this is a ridiculous proposal. Miller is barely a second line center right now let alone a first line center, what the hell are these people talking about?

      • you don`t know what your talking about and your just here to troll . boston is obviously like the laffs , good regular season team but not a playoff team right now

      • Both are the same age, but you’re going to pay more for Scheifele than you will Miller. Miller plays a harder nose style, more in line with the way the Bruins like to play so you’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Personally I don’t want the Canucks to trade one of the few players they do have that are willing to fight if necessary.

      • Uhh, you’re kidding right? Miller has been a ppg player since arriving in Vancouver, wins faceoffs at a better than fifty percent rate, and will fight if needed so I don’t know where you get that they would be tripping all over themselves to trade Miller for an undersized prospect in Lysell, and Zacha who’s never scored more than 57 point in a full 82 game season, which he’s done only once btw. That first round pick is going to be a late round first as well, so yeah Boston would be getting the better player.

    • Ya, and i’m sure you were the first person to say what idiots the Leafs were for picking him up because he’s always hurt!

  302. Toronto Maple Leafs are screwed with William Nylander. He has comparable numbers and will want the same type of deal. Good luck Toronoto.

  303. After nylander held out till December to get what he wanted for his last contact, you know darn well he’ll do it again, get what you can for him a let someone else deal with his bs.

  304. The Leafs don’t need Domi and Bertuzzi.
You can’t buy a Stanley Cup. Probably retain the team and have them earn their money. Otherwise trade Matthew’s and Nylander but don’t retain any salary, and move on.

  305. We need to look at Tavares trade him and keep Nylander a much petter hockey player .we need to look at the totals of each player and should see who is going out the door.pay him what he is worth

  306. Leafs MUST find a way to keep Nylander.

A see a buyout coming for T.J. Brodie and Matt Murray going on LTIR. That would give us the cap space to be compliant with the NHL.

  307. To Biggs
Here are the names of the players that are locked up for the next 7yrs
    Adam Pelech
    Ryan Pulock
    Mat Barzal
    Illya Sorokin
    Bo Horvat
Doesn’t seem like a sad state of affairs on the Island to me. Know what Ur talking about b4 U knock down a team. Gotta be a Rags fan !

  308. Isles want a lot and can afford none. Sad state of affairs on Long Island. Great rental market, and they lock up multiple players for 7 years. Genius.

  309. Trade Hanifin to Boston or Pittsburgh for a first & second. Late rd. picks they should go for that. & if Flames can’t draft a player out of that mix, they should get a new scouting dept!

  310. 33 yrs old .. 11.2 mill contract… norris trophy winner at the age of 33 again. He does have some fight left in him.. i dont see him going to toronto .. one reason being. they dont wanna sign nylander to 10 mill + .. so what makes yall think theyll add that alrdy cap stress roster.. Pittsburg doesnt need him .. theyre aging out.. and like one commnet had mentioned .teams want to get younger .. not older. so I dont see him there aswell.. however i do see him wearing a seattle kraken jersey … but i think they alrdy signed a defenseman whose younger.. so im betting the hurricanes will move on him.. they need that on the back end .

  311. This is stupid!!!

Dougie Hamilton & Jonas Siegenthaler have 5yrs left on their contracts. Siegenthaler is 1 of the leagues best Dmen. John Marino has 4yrs left & was fantastic against other teams top players last szn. Kevin Bahl is 6’5″ 230lbs of shutdown big hitting nasty Dman with a big slapshot. Then there’s Luke Hughes & Simon Nemec. Seamus Casey had a huge rookie szn. At the WJC’s Topias Vilen was Finland’s #1 Dman. What about that says we’d want Hanifin?? Just walked away from Graves & Severson because they’re going to be big long term contracts. Hanifin is about to get a big long term contract. We’re set in NJ & we’re set in prospects

  312. Please make this trade! Hanifin is not coming back, Devils will not be able to afford Mercer when his ELC is up. Works for both teams.

  313. If Karlsson gets traded, it would be to Toronto, Carolina or Seattle. He won’t be traded to Pittsburgh. However, the likeliest outcome is that Karlsson remains with the Sharks for the 2023-2024 season and then becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2024.

  314. Sharks should absolutely turn this down. They didn’t want to spend roughly Lindholm’s future contract price on Timo Meier because he would’ve been playing through his prime/earning the salary during a rebuild, why are they going to pay the same price to a guy who will be 3 years older than Meier was at the start of their contracts?

  315. Erik Karlsson’s contract is untradeable. He is not going anywhere. He is stuck in San Jose until his contract expires.

  316. Why can’t Mathew and Marner (next contract) take a bit of a haircut to accommodate Nylander? They have a small window of opportunity to go for it all. If they refuse, it shows that they are willing to sacrifice a Stanley Cup for a little extra money. Many great players would that in a heartbeat to get to the finals!

  317. Samsonov will likely get only $3.65 M for 1 year after his arbitration is completed. So, if Carter Hart is at $3.979 M, it would make zero sense for Hart to head to Toronto because the Maple Leafs cannot afford him.

  318. Hart has a career .906 save percentage and a 2.96 GAA. Samsonov has a career .908 save percentage and a 2.65 GAA. Pretty similar stats except that Hart played for a weaker Philly team his whole career and Samsonov played for the caps who have always been a contender. I think the biggest difference between the two is there age. Keeping Samsonov gives the leafs a stable net for 3 more years. If they gamble on Hart and it works out, he could be a solid long term goaltender. I am personally tired of dreaming, and based on his rock solid 27-10 record last season I’m all in on Samsonov.

  319. Harts great just needs a real team deffense in front to help him we have a geat shot with samsonov or carter hart we have to start on time and play a full 3 periods of hockey not just halfway

  320. You know what? I say that Nylander is poison with regards to team unity and winning . Only dollars matter like his dad. Marner is probably the most over rated player in hockey as his highlight real plays mask his atrocious give aways poor shot selection and no regard for the simple play. Mathews had more hits than the two combined last year. I say TRADE THEM BOTH! Neither of these guys will go to war and play with broken bones like Florida’s group.

  321. No they don’t, they can’t sign another player until they create some cap space, so no Hart is not coming to Toronto, leafs have little wiggle room and will probably get Samsonov for 1 yr at the lower arbitration hearing since Samsonov hasn’t enough leverage for the higher amount but should the arbitrator rule in favour of Samsonov demand Leafs will walk away and let Samsonov become a free agent, Leafs couldnt afford Harts contract. So nothing will happen until tomorrow when Samsonov has his hearing, then the leafs will need to trade a player ,either Nylander or Brodie as the leafs are allowed to be over the cap by certain percentage which they are at now, players going on long term injury can’t be placed their until start of season, so only way the leafs add or lower cap hit is by trade

  322. R u people serious samsonov is not as good as hart sorry.i dont think samsonov is worth the money he wants but i say hes worth 3m for 3 yrs and trade murray and wee willie to philly for hart and koneckny that way u dump murrays outrageous contract and willie is not wort h 10 m a yr then put muzzin on ltir to get cap compliant.i think hart and sammy would make a great tandem and koneckny csn play with better players in top 6 for sure.hes a great player and watch harts #s get better being hes on a way better team .then all you need is karllson somehow someway. Then i would bet on leafs again to atleast make it to the 3rd round or hopefully win lord stanley, which i havnt seen in my 55 yrs.
But please win it soon so i can finally rip all those leaf haters.

  323. If you could get done staying right in the first I would trade him so fast if you like you were in last place he he held the leaves up once before and now he’s going to play his game again did he score 40 goals yes he did but he’s not the best defensive player I ever seen did he come through in a pinch yes he did I’m not saying he’s the worst hockey player out there but these other players could grow into some dandies and I think they should do it that’s why it’s my decision but the thing is is Carlson if for any lander is not worth the Toronto Maple Leafs time of day 5 years ago if Carlson was at age and then we lander is now sure but no go for the other three and do the trade now have a good day

  324. I can’t see the Sharks making this trade. They are rebuilding and Eklund is their second best prospect. Couture is their captain and both he and Grier just said they had no interest in Couture leaving. Couture wouldn’t want to go to Calgary anyway because they aren’t a contender, and the Sharks wouldn’t trade Couture (and definitely wouldn’t retain significant salary) without getting a draft pick and/or prospect in return. Lindholm isn’t much better than Couture. San Jose should keep Couture to help mentor young players as the team rebuilds. Hard pass.

  325. If Nashville had to retain 50% on Johansen who is 30 years old with 2 years remaining, San Jose would definitely need to retain 50% on Couture who is 34. If they can get Eklund and they can’t retain Lindholm I think they should consider it, but only with 50% retention. Otherwise the Sharks can keep Couture.

  326. Crazy to trade Marner!!! Matthews should go before him. Toronto is trying to continue building a team around a player (Matthews) that doesn’t want to sign long term…and has zero leadership potential.

  327. also agreed, he still hasn’t earned his last contract from sitting out, only decent year he had ….10m??? Lets hope someone is interested

  328. Why would Toronto trade one of the top forwards in the league for bottom of the lineup guys? If I am Toronto it’s Marner for Fox even up

  329. The Rangers would regret this. Marner will once again disappear in the playoffs, does not like the dirty areas. He would be lucky that Gerard Gallant is still not there.

  330. I jumped off the Titanic (Leafs fan) years ago. Best decision ever. No more anger. No more frustration. No more disappointments. It’s beautiful.

  331. I’d would keep marner over Nylander and even matthews. That would be a quick way to up grade defense and get good forwards that want to play. Problem is marner will want more when time comes.

  332. You never trade a good or star Canadian born player for a package of euro garbage
They are busts and even if 1 blossoms what will they do in playoffs ?
Canadian born excel in gruelling playoffs
And as far as Alex goes ate they crazy ? Look at jumbo joe thortons first 3 or 4 seasons
    Very similar
If im Leafs i ask for Alex La instead of that busy of a finn
Marner is Team Canada material so they need a lot more from Rangers
And if Alex goes to Montreal he will blossom into the star player
Rangers are crazy to give up on Alex , whst is he 22 ?.

  333. All the talk, why no trade Matthew’s

Sign him up for a decent salary, offer incentives based on team playoff advances per round and then trade him to a growing team that has players that show potential within 1 year or two.
Matthew’s is a great player but by trading him you will have a better team.
They have already made errors in letting Bunting and O’Reilly go. Not smart choices. Picking up some have been.
    Rumors about H
Niles trade? If traded this will be another Rusk error in the making

  334. That would be a huge mistske. The leafs need to trade Nylander now because I believe as soon as he gets his big cintract, he will go back to his old ways of just being a floater ,trying to not get hit. Trade him now while he’s worth something..

  335. Really dimb article only an imbecile would keep Nylander over Marner. And for all the numbskulls on here saying Marner doesn’t show up in playoffs. 14pts in 11 games idiots!

    • I agree with you 100 percent, to many people think they know but they don’t know. Marner is I believe a better bet in the future then AM34 for that matter.players like him make all those better around him. Willy is one dimensional although he’s crafty as well.

  336. Whether or not Leafs fans like this rumored trade is irrelevant. This would THE DUMBEST move the Rangers have EVER made. We already have a Mitch Marner; his name is Artemi Panarin. Why on God’s green earth would the Rangers want another regular season maestro who completely disappears come playoff time? We already know who Marner is. Hopefully with our new coach, Kaapo Kakko can show the world who HE really is. Trading THREE core pieces for another fancy prima donna does absolutely nothing for the Rangers but set them back even further. This has got to be the stupidest rumor I can possibly imagine. Must be someone with too much time on his hands or a Leafs executive hoping to jumpstart a NY to Toronto heist!

  337. Why did they trade Pierre Engvall??? He had Size & Reach….I Said trade #34 to the Kraken for… Soucy & Aleksiak defence problem solved!

  338. Trade 16 ?? ur the biggest idiots ever!! 16 hasn’t had any protection!! Get rid of 34 use the $ better on a goalie and defence! Leaf fans need to chill with trades of delusion . Next stop 1001 queen st.

    • I would keep Marner over 2 Nylanders!! #16 shows more heart, more energy and more live of the game than both Nylander and Matthews. Both of whom look bored on the ice. Marner showed up, he wanted to win! The other two, well, there’s just no sign they want the Leafs to do well. Marner should be wearing the C!

  339. Let’s be serious and have the facts
Leafs are 8m over cap with Samsonov which should be 2 yr 2.8 m per approx so let’s say 11m
Muzzin will cut it to 5 m once he goes on IR
Murray will cut it to about 2m over
So math wise something has to happen
Mathews no trade clause will sign before season starts
Marner no trade clause toronto boy — not going anywhere
Tavares no trade clause toronto boy —- not going anywhere
Nylander 10 team no trade clause,, if he doesn’t come down from his 10m request he will be traded either for a good player that has a lower cap hit and a really good prospect to save cap space
Or they could do a one for one swap star for star and try resigning that player — several really good players from Calgary have stated they will not resign so theirs a good opportunity to maybe bolster the defence
Brodie could be traded but this would be to dump salary
So the most obvious players to be traded will be Nylander, Brodie and Murray leafs are pretty much set
    Beruzzi— Mathews—- Marner
Knies — Tavares — Nylander ( if signed)
    Domi — Kampf— Jarnkrok
    Robertson — Lafferty— Reaves
Mcmann Steeves Holmberg. They will be in the mix
Reilly/ Brodie. But think he will be traded
    McCabe/Klingberg
    Giordano/Liljegren
    Timmons

Samsonov/Woll Also Woll has to be on the team he can’t go down unless he clears waivers which he wouldn’t so he is the back up with the opportunity to become the number 1 goalie

  340. This is a laugh . You honestly think the Rangers would ever give up Kappo, And Chytl, let alone add in Ryan Lindgren, one of the best defensive dman in the league, for him, when we have plenty of offensive talent, this is written by a mad person, truly… At most maybe Kappo, a 1st rounder and a prospect… No way this pipe dream will ever happen..

    • I wouldn’t even do this straight up for Kakko. Why tie up that much additional money for one player who has already shown what he’s made of come playoff time? Kakko hasn’t had a real opportunity yet to show what he can do. With top minutes and PP time, he’s ready to bust out. He’s everything the Rangers need going forward, with a new coach who will hopefully allow him to realize his tremendous potential. We already have Panarin for fancy assists and ZERO playoff contributions. With Kakko at least there’s hope for a postseason monster. Let the Leafs choke on Marner’s contract and playoff invisibility!

    • We dont want youre non Canadian garbage up here
Keep youre euro limp wrist stiffs
You cannot win a cup unlees half youre team at least is Canadian
Rangers with their American college 23 year old rookies and euro garbage will never win unless they start drafting Canadian talent .
Look at Boston with their 2 or 3 Canadians
      Look what happens in playoffs
You Ranger fans should know this more then anyone .
Mark Messier won you that cup in 93 not a finn or Swede

  341. Only morons would keep marner. The guy is useless in the playoffs. He turns over pucks at the most critical moment. He will never win the cup for you. He is only concerned about his fat contract. It’s about time to get rid of him.

    • I’m sorry man overpaid? The guy was injured all last elseason and still out up 40 goals M and M are worth every dollar they get. We need depth come playoffs, that’s how you win a cup, example vegas

    • Youre %100 correct
This kinda reminds me of Bosdy ,& Trottier and at first everyone thought Trottier was the better
Looking back its not close as Bossy was a super star

    • Nooooooooooo, don’t trade Marner. One of most skilled and entertaining players in the league. Bring in some scrappy muscle to back him up. Might help Matthews get up to speed as well.

    • Agreed, only an idiot would sign Nylander 10m and trade a player that has proved he is worth 10m, half of Nylander points came off the back of marner

  342. I can’t see giving up a 1st round pick for Lafreniere when the Habs are almost certainly out of the playoffs. They can trade for him on a discount basis, NY needs space and they are gearing up for an “all in ” season. It won’t be free.

  343. I would be surprised if HuGo go down that path and alienate other GMs. I suspect they will try to trade for him instead.
But if he does accept an offer sheet the Habs MAY be his preferred destination.

  344. So Laffer is the latest French Canadian to be linked to the Habs.

Once that blows.over, who will be the next one to be linked to Habs?

  345. im sorry.. but a young player that hasnt even hit his prime for an aging defenseman… So what he had a norris trophy season.. it was far from the last he won.. And whose to say he will play like he did next season. no thank you.. i would only do it if the defense corps was filled with prospects and rookies.. they dont wanna give nylander 10 mill but will fork over 11.5 …. ? wouldnt make sense and doesnt make sense.

  346. Senators fan here

    Karlsson will impress

So what if he is 34

    Look at top tennis athletes

An extremely physically demanding sport, and yet they make it to grand slam finals even when they are in their late 30s

    • extreme? you clearly dont know the abuse hockey takes on the body.. yeah tennis is pyshicallly demanding.. but your not get hip checked or ran into the boards.. so not a good comparison imho.. sorry.

    • If you’re talking about Djoker at 37 making finals… Yes he did but there is only one Djoker out there and don’t forget he’s GOAT

    • Really?? This is your contribution a really lame dig at a a guy who has been a CPT in the league for over a decade and has made more money doing than you could ever dream of??? Wow what a zinger???

  347. Get rid of matthews he’s the one who can’t find the net Marner is told to pass the puck!!! Marner and Nylander would be amazing together & that’s what they should do!!!

    • Toronto isn’t willing to give Nylander the contract he wants, Nylander will be walking next year, this is why Nylander is the one in trade talks. Might as well get something out of him.

  348. If a trade must be made then I like the idea of Nylander going to the Shark’s. First off if Nylander was traded to the Shark’s one we’d only see them once or twice a season and being out there we would barely hear about him. Two Karlsson is a good starting point but there has to be more coming back than just Karlsson. One you get Nylander for the upcoming season at 6.9mil plus if it’s a sign and trade then there has to be a pick in the pkg and either a high end prospect or roster player. Shark’s mngt has said that they are willing to retain 3milx4yrs that works out to what Treliving was willing to pay for Nylander. I say that if a deal hasn’t been reached by the end of July then it’s time to move on. I also believe that this would be a good time to move on from TJ and Jankrok with Murray, that’s around 12mil in Cap relief depending on what Treliving gets in return. I’m glad that in a couple of day’s we’re off for three weeks in the sun. When I get back let’s hope that they’ve either signed or traded one or the other. It’s a wait and see what happens with the top two guns let’s hope that they have worked this all out by the time I get back I’m hoping one way or another this has all been settled. Cheerz

    • Matthews can’t find the net??? Since he has entered the league who has found it more???? No one!!! Anyone close has played significantly more games as well. Get your facts straight before you post these silly little kid opinions

    • He’s a playmaker and has 47 points in 50 playoff games, 14 in the last 11. His Points/Game were 4th highest in the last playoffs of any team that made it to the second round.

      • My how Leaf fans have gotten cocky not to long ago we were basement dwellers now it seems we are good enough to get rid of Willy, Austin , Mitch , and JT
who the hell do you think brought us here

        • Absolutely correct. But they aren’t fans they wannabe part of something so they pipe up without a clue what they are talking about

  349. I thinking that the Rangers wanted to win the cup. This not what how to win anything bringing all these older players . The Rangers have way too many big contracts. No way to get rid of them . Laffy never to his billing .

  350. Laffy has as many even strength goals as Mika since he came into the league. He gets 3rd line minutes – and zero PP time. Both him and Kakko deserve better but unlike most top 3 picks, they both went to a team built to win now with established vets ahead of them. If the Rangers trade them, they’ll regret it.

  351. Funny reading comments by people who don’t fully understand what Lafreniere (and Kakko) have been through playing for the Rangers. Both of them average only ONE minute more of ice time than in their rookie seasons. Neither gets any PP time to speak of. Laffy has been buried on the third line bc both Panarin and Kreider are also left wingers. When you don’t get the same opportunities as other top picks, you don’t get the chance to build up your confidence and you don’t get to put of better numbers. Jack Hughes was TERRIBLE in his rookie year, but the following year he was given first line minutes and PP time anyway, as it should be with a Number One pick. Kakko had as many even strength goals as Mika Zibanejad this season, while averaging a minute less of ES ice time. What else is he supposed to do with no PP time? These kids don’t need a change of scenery, they need minutes and PP time. Neither of them is a bust and neither belongs on the 3rd line. They’ve been misused and underutilized their entire careers so far.

    • What happens if thy get first line minutes this year, and get no more than 40- 50 points what is there worth then. Johnny brodzinski would likely get 45 points with top line minutes.

  352. Be careful trading Laffy. He came to a team with a coach who prefers veterans, gives young players minimal opportunity to improve and was moved from line to line. Gallant is finally gone (good riddance) and the NYR need to start giving their young players a real chance to improve.

    • Thank you. Someone who looks beyond just the stats and doesn’t regurgitate what he hears from other people. Gallant was the problem, not Laffy and not Kakko. Hopefully Laviolette gives them a real opportunity.

  353. The hockey writers are very negative to any leaf transaction. Some of them write gibberish.Let Tre mould the team and let’s see what transpires.

  354. First of all, IMO I would take Reichel over Lafreniere right now. “Laffy” had multiple players on his team available who could have “brought out the best in him” – so where was it hiding. A trade that simply sends the Blackhawks’ “Tampa Bay” pick for him seems arguably reasonable. For example, would I trade this year’s similar pick (Oliver Moore) for Lafreniere? I’m not so sure. I think Moore’s upside might even be worth saying no to that deal! We’ve seen countless Lafreniere’s in the NHL who’s lofty expectations yielded only bottom-six realities. He’s not a bad player, but his ceiling may only be a short distance away, which would render him a useful third liner as I see it. Besides, “Laffy” is already a RFA, which means a bigger contract sooner rather than later or risk losing him to FA. I guarantee that if his play next season is similar to the past ones, NY would be lucky to get a late 1st rounder for him at the trade deadine next March.

    • Tavares contract is mostly signing bonuses and those will not count in buyout, if the Leafs buy him out thy will only reduce cap buy just over $600,000.

    • Tavares contract is mostly signing bonuses and those will not count in buyout, if the Leafs buy him out thy will only reduce cap buy just over $600,000.

  355. Trade Tavares and murry Matt

!!! Leafs will not win with brad treliving as manager he will turn leafs into shit hole like he did in Calgary
!! You should be out of your mind trading Mathew tuchck Johnny than you fire coach to cover up your own ass brad treliving should change name to brad treshit we love leafs want them to win not miss playoffs

  356. If they trade Willy leafs will never ever win stanly cup !!! Leafs fan behaviour leafs are worse team in nhl to make trades just look at how many players they had traded and won cup
So take a hike leaf’s stuck with players longer if wanted to win .. !!! Willy gets traded than Austin will not sign ether

    • See ya Willy means!!
See ya leaf’s back to 11 place team

If Willy goes Austin Mathew will not signing with leafs

You’re not going to win with manner scoring 27 goals 110 points per season you shut down one player leafs has no one to score goals

    • Tavares contract is mostly signing bonuses and those will not count in buyout, if the Leafs buy him out thy will only reduce cap buy just over $600,000.

  357. Hockey is a great sport but salaries are getting out of hand like other sport. I am a ny ranger fan have been and always will be. Is there no team loyalty among players or is everything money money and money. The owners have a right to obtain proper players but at what costs. When i worked i mad 70000.00 and put at least 60 hours a week no overtime due to i was part of management. If i complained about time and pay they would state theirs the door. Now you are signing players with poor records for multi million contracts and yet they still complain. I refuse to spend my hard earned dollars and go to a game which i did many times.Reporter do not disagree with these contracts but favor them. Now I have to put hockey on hold like with basketball-baseball.Their salary demands are ridiculous today.

  358. To add, William Nylander does not play on the Penalty Kill. Marner does. Matthews isn’t asked to play on the PK. Ever ask why there is a perception that Marner doesn’t produce more in the playoffs even though Marner and Matthews aren’t the issue but rather the Leafs third and fourth line players don’t contribute in the playoffs? This is all Leafs Management’s fault for not being capable of icing a worthy team for the city to compete and win a Stanley Cup!

  359. Hi.
I am going to state the obvious. William Nylander is not a 10 million AAV player. More like 8 million AAV. Marner is more like a 9 million AAV because he is asked to do more than Nylander and Matthews is a 10 milliom AAV player because Goal scoring is valued highly. Dubas ruined the Leafs by overpaying for Matthews and Marner.

  360. The worst trades in the author’s _lifetime_. Any article that claims it has the “best” or “worst” but only runs from the late 1980s onward is by someone who doesn’t know squat about the game. This is true whether it’s hockey, baseball, football, or anything pro or collegiate.

  361. Much as he was a disappointment this season, Charlie Mac is the one untouchable. I would trade Pasta before Chuck, but Taylor’s got to go Matt’s too small. Ullmark was horrible in the playoffs he’s still got great marketability. You could get a number pick for Linus. We need a bona fid no 1 centre Zacha’s could be a number 2 centre but that about as far as it goes get so,e size and seep on the backend. We need Debrusk speed he is the fastest skater on the team.

  362. Sweeney and Neely should be fired. They have made a mess of this team with signings, trades and draft picks that didn’t work out. Even is they won the Stanley Cup, they would have the same problem. The most logical player to trade would be Charlie McAvoy. He’s making $9.5 million per season and among defensemen he ranked 7th in plus minus, 18th in scoring and 41st in average time on ice. By comparison, Brandon Montour had 21 more points than McAvoy and was plus 23. He makes $3.25 million per season. Dougie Hamilton also had 21 more points than McAvoy, was plus 9 and makes $3.3 million per season. The Bruins will be fine on defense without McAvoy and they can trade him now. Trade McAvoy, keep Hall and Debrusk. I would even consider trading Patrnak. Yes, he scored 61 goals which was great, but he also turns the puck over more than any player on the team and having one of the best scorers in the league does guarantee a Stanley Cup. In fact, the teams that win usually have balanced scoring throughout the lineup. That’s what the Bruins need. More balance.

  363. Don’t trade Jake he has come in his own plays hard , plays both ends of the ice . Safe 11million trade Pastrnak he’s a great scorer! But he just stand there waiting for the puck, he won’t score 60 goals againt

  364. I’m upset hellebuyck wants to leave it puts us in need of a reliable goalie again and I’m not sure if Nylander is a good trade

  365. just get pierre luc dubois and 2 draft choices and give cauifield and gallighter and last year first round salfsouski he s to winnipeg if im losing i would rather partner with winnipeg offer sheet jump the gun and move

  366. lol Detroit cannot get trade Moe Redwings do not have any right defensemen in there system let alone a elite caliber. Not happening

  367. Are you kidding me. Another “pretty” forward who runs from any rough stuff? Especially along the boards and the corners. Just what we need. We might make the playoffs just to be trounced in the first round. At 7 million a year. Lol!

  368. Lol obviously not going to happen, considering Nylander would be for one season, Seider (who becomes RFA not UFA at the same time) would be an overpayment.

  369. I guarantee the Wings won’t trade Seider for Nylander. Only a Leaf fan would come up with that trade. Seider is the cornerstone of the Yzerman build. Yzerman has (4) 1st round picks in the best 2 drafts since 2015, so stay the course. What would adding Nylander actually do anyway? He’s a +5 over the last 5 seasons on a team with a goal differential of + 208 over that time period. If He’s barely moving the needle for a loaded team, what’s he going to do for the Wings? 3-5 more wins next year isn’t worth giving up any 1st round picks.

  370. SY will NEVER give up a generational D-man – and an RHD at that! While DRW does need scoring and would love to have Nylander, TO is in sort of a dump situation in order to get draft picks for their rebuild on the rebuild on the rebuild. I believe Stevie would give TO their #17 this year and their second round next year + Zadina to get Nylander – IF – Toronto signs him to a 6 year, $45MM contract – first

    • This is more reality than this way out of reality article suggestion. You would need to give up a mountain of capital in the Wings favor to pry Seider away. No one will give up that much so he is not moving.

  371. miller , kane ,panerin should be gone keep tarasinko rangers need a big 50 point foward and a big punishing defenceman

  372. No Trelving please, Get Dale Tallon who built the Black Hawks to a get period of time until he left , get Quennville to coach , he has strong connections with Kane And Teows who are free agents , let’s move on , Matthews would love this set up. Brad

  373. I agree. No Trelving please. Get Dale Tallon who built the Black Hawks plus get Quennville to coach who has strong connections with both Kane and Teows Brad

  374. Shanny better get it right when he selects his next GM, due to if this doesn’t workout he won’t get another chance, he’ll be shown the door with that GM if it doesn’t work. But right now I’m waiting to see if there’s any fallout from Kyle’s departure other than Speeza resignation. Pridham and Wes (head of scouting) are good friends do they end up leaving if Kyle signs elsewhere. The timing of all of this couldn’t be worse. Matthews and Nylander, deal’s, the draft, free agency, not ideal. In no way does Sheldon escape the wrath of change, I believe he’s gone. Nylander and Marner must be wondering if they’ll be on the move. It seems that Leaf’s player’s only win the Stanley Cup after they leave the Leaf’s
You can bet that they’ll be news every week this off-season, let’s just hope that there’s some good news to all of this. Cheerz

  375. Trade him. We need a change. This team has gone no where in 6 years. Keep Marner and build around him.

  376. Miller has to. Parnin needs to his big concact is not worth the money. The Rangers need goal scores , i

  377. The Bruins don’t have 10 million in cap space, they have just under 6 million now that Krejci and Bergeron had 4.5 million in overage penalties applied to next year’s cap. Not good with only 14 players under contract.

  378. Montreal Canadiens are easily Canada’s favorite hockey team and it’s not even close.
Conversely the Toronto Maple Laffs are Canada’s most disliked hockey team and ahmgain, it’s not even close

  379. Doesn’t seem like match for the Habs in my opinion. He’s not going to fit in on a young team and the Habs need a long term winger to complement Suzuki and Caufield

  380. It’s a shame you don’t have a donate button! I’d definitely donateto this superb blog! I guess for now i’ll settle for bookmarking and adding yourRSS feed to my Google account. I look forward to new updates and will share this site with my Facebook group.Talk soon!

  381. I have epilepsy can’t afford anything more than I cough up now to watch my Red Wings and to have Bally pillage me a little more is gonna make me dump 40+ yrs of loving to watch hockey thanx guys

  382. So let me get this right. The Blues trade O’Reilly and Tarasenko, and the return would be Timo Meier or Chychrun is the return on investment? This draft is the deepest since 2003, having 3 number one picks is a great way to start a TRUE REBUILD!!!

  383. They say Rutherford takes blame for his mistakes, the Miller signing ahead of Horvat was a huge mistake, so own up to it and fix it.

  384. First of all, playing in the NHL is both an honor and a privilege. I am sick and tired of players picking where they would play. I DO NOT believe in the NMC or NTC. If one player gets it, they all should get it. Just because you perform better on the ice it shouldn’t make you think that you’ve ‘earned’ the right for a NMC. It just says that it’s only a job to you and that you don’t really care about winning. Well, it IS about winning….not whining.

  385. Crouse or Martha with salary withheld would be an incredible hockey trade but getting Ritchie back would be a good short term alternative.

I think they are going to make a push for O’Reily which would be the best pick up for this year. Crouse and Martha would be long term solutions.

As far as I am concerned Robertson or any of the prospects except Knies are on the table. Kerfoot being part of this trade would be required for future cap concerns although they may be able to keep him for the rest of the year. I think Crouse is the best solution but if that is possible try to get Ritchie also. Kypreos is very good at his job so there maybe truth to this rumour.

  386. So why would they trade for Horvat when they could just make a pitch as a free agent? They are not a playoff team and moving Larkin improves the wings draft position.

  387. I believe most Vancouver fans agreed with Trevor Linden at the time and disagreed with the owners. That ownership decision has backfired on this team ever since. Hiring a player agent as your GM wasn’t a winner either. Hiring a new GM who stated they were going to concentrate on the EU and elsewhere as a priority is the wrong direction to win a Stanley Cup. You stock yourself with the best core of Canadian players first and then cherry pick non-Canadian players next. How many “Cups” did the Sedins win as team leaders? Or Sundin and Salming in Toronto, or Alfredsson in Ottawa. Each one of these fellows were super talented but how many Cups did they get their name on in Vancouver, Toronto or Ottawa. Who were the team leaders in Edmonton, Calgary or Montreal when they won their Cups? They each had a strong core of Canadian talent and team leaders who were able to perform at a top level in the regular season and in the rugged grind of the NHL playoffs. Most any club today would be happy to pick up Horvat but how many would want Pettersson at his salary and ability to perform when the going gets tough? Maybe for half his salary? The club needs a better direction otherwise we’ll continue to try to make the playoffs and likely be in the same boat as Montreal and Toronto have been for a while now.

  388. There are several glaring omissions to the channel lineup. One is What if the games are televised on TNT,ESPN,ABC AND SO FORTH. Two- what is the channel number for what ever provider the viewer has for these channels, Spectrum, Optimum, Fios Etc. I do understand that in season changes happen and that I need to be aware of the possibly of this happening. If you can make any of these changes it would make viewing or recording the games more enjoyable to watch

  389. When you are in Montreal’s position everyone knows you want to dump salary so they will not do that without getting a draft pick back. So Hughes knows the value of his high cost players being traded without having to give up picks is only after an injury to someone else.

Tyson Barrie for Hoffman is a neutral trade. No big deal but Dvorak you sit on for now. I would trade Drouin or Dvorak or both to get a young goalie or right d man duh but that is easier said than done. My concern in MTL now is finding a goalie of the future. I do not think Primeau is that guy. I think at best he is an average back up. Certainly better than Montambeault but sorry I don’t see him as the next Price. Then again Price in his first two years people gave up on and everyone wanted them to keep Halak instead so…………….

  390. I think this is short and sweet and to the point. They both would like to get a deal done, but talk is cheap and money talks. He wants a max deal they won’t do it so odds are he gets moved. Simple

  391. Great projections. I think Mitch Marner has a massive year and finishes second in lead scoring behind McDavid.

It would be great to see Makar hit 100 points for a defenceman this year. Josi came close last year.

  392. Sorry, I would not trade Noah Dobson, a rising star defenseman for J.T. Miller. Islanders better off keeping Dobson and signing an unrestricted free agent forward.

  393. Solid NHL predictions for the 2022-23 season. I can see the Colorado Avalanche repeat as Stanley Cup champions.

I do believe the Leafs win the Atlantic division and will lose in the second round to Florida or Tampa. Ottawa will make the playoffs.

I see Edmonton making a long playoff run in the West. Calgary might squeak in as the 8th seed.

Looking forward to the hockey season starting.

  394. Suzuki is the only player who moves the needle for Winnipeg. Otherwise, I don’t see it happening, baring a three way trade.

  395. So Marek and Friedman have no real information, it is only their opinion that the Wing’s are interested in Kadri. The title of this article is misleading, at best.

  396. Johhny Gaudreau is NOT re-signing with the Flames. He is gone.

I think the Forsberg signing would be a smart move. I believe he wants a NTC in his contract which the Preds refuse to give out.

  397. Problem 1 Canadian tax system.2.Players look at Winnepeg as Siberia.Recommendation, move to a U.S.city.3.As a player would you enjoy Winnepeg in January or FLA. TEXAS,CALIF.!

  398. It’s not the cap making problems for teams like the Rangers and Leafs. It’s massively overpaying players like Panarin and Marner. Gaudreau may join that club soon too.

  399. The Blues are welcome to offer sheet Tkachuk. If it’s under $10,503,720 the Flames will match. If it’s more than that the Flames might decide to let them have Matthew and take the 4 first round draft picks.

Otherwise it’d take something like Robert Thomas, Vladimir Tarasenko and 2 firsts.

  400. “Another Stanley Cup run”

Not happening, this year was a fluke, even then it took a perfect storm of terribly biased officiating, multiple injuries to the Flames, and Kane on the cheap. The only round where the officiating wasn’t incredibly biased in the oilers favor was the one they got swept in.

    • Flamer stop . Your crying the blues is just embarrassing .As long as you worship Johnny Hokey your never going anywhere .

  401. I’m a Panarin fan, but Chris Drury is correct. He didn’t play with his usual energy level and was pushed around by his opponents as if he was a little boy. There is something not right with him. Covid jab damaged? Anything is possible. Except for brief spurts, Panarin looked like a V8 running on only 4 cylinders. Obviously, he doesn’t, and never will, have the physical presence of a Kreider or a Trouba, but there is definitely something wrong with him.

  402. Kekalainen had no problem paying Werenski almost 10million and now he is reneging on his statements that Laine would be receiving a heafty raise for a long term contract. 10M is not a lot by today’s standards for all that he will bring to the Blue Jackets. If Kekalainen doesn’t live up to what he says, why has he made false promises. Nobody on the Blue Jackets has the hockey background and years of success Laine has had and the fans he brings. Follower and Fan since Laine was drafted in 2016 with Mathews and Dubois. As the fans have been raving, “Pay Him”.

  403. The NHL salary cap will ruin another great team. No way the Rangers will be able to retain their current roster after next season.

  404. The Rangers are screwed with the salary cap next year with Laff and Miller due new contracts. Either the Rangers trade him this offseason or he will get an offer sheet.

  405. yep, Anderson will be traded. The Canadiens are in a full re-build, he could get the Habs a ton of assets and the team needs to shed salary!

  406. And there is no source from the Black Hawks that confirm their interest ? The headline states that the Hawks are interested in trading for Mrazek, but, in the body of the article, a source not employed by the Hawks says they “could be” interested in him. Misleading shoddy journalism here.

  407. Davidson is not going to be the answer and won’t build squat
Going to be a long time before the Blackhawks reach any prominence

  408. “Byfield would likely be part of a package going back to Arizona if the Kings revisit a Chychrun trade this offseason.”

That implies the Kings would not only have to part with Byfield, but also include additional assets in order to acquire Chychrun… but surely Byfield has more value than Chychrun at this point, no?

And why would Byfield “likely be part of the package going back to Arizona”? If the Kings refuse to part with their prized young C, it’s not as if the other teams bidding on Chychrun have a C prospect with Byfield’s upside they can offer, so Arizona if sends him to any other team, they’ll end up settling for a similar package to what the Kings could offer without Byfield involved…

So, if Chychrun is dealt to Los Angeles, the C prospect that would likely be going to Arizona would be Alex Turcotte

    • Meier is an UFA next summer, with a $10mill salary SJ can’t pay. Why give up the second pick when you can get him for free next summer and still have the 2nd pick anyway? He should be the very last piece of the puzzle.

  409. it wasn’t accidental or intentional- These words imply illegality. You cannot be punished for playing hard clean hockey. The hit on Crosby, although almost borderline- clean- the hit on Domi- clean- He’s a tough player but not dirty. Being suspended once 5 years ago does not warrant all of this nonsenve from jealous fans who really only wish he was on their team. Malkin on the other hand constantly uses his stick as a weapon. He needs to be punished severly. no one can argue that.

  410. 2nd overall plus all New Jerseys 1st round picks until 2033 will get them the best of the Hughes brothers

  411. Ben, you have no idea what your talking about… for the Canucks… the center piece coming back would be Schneider… the only way Lafaneire comes back… is if NY feels their 1st this year is more valuable than him! I get it… you work for the “woke” The province… but dude you don’t even listen… Rutherford wants back 1)a RHD, 2) sand paper players… the entire deal centers around Schneider for Miller… the question is does NY feel they have a better shot with their young team… with Lundvkist and Miller in the future? Go smoke some more weed then come back at us!

  412. Pens definitely need to get at least two new goalie prospects for next year;keep our starters; Maulkin; Crosby;Letang intact. Trade Harry, DeSmith away.

  413. Keep the coach, the core is young and entering their prime. They will make it past the first round next year. Book it!

  414. Dirty dirty hit, aimed for the head, and resulted in significant injury to Lindholm. Leagues HAS to do a better job protecting players from goons like svetch

  415. Trouba has a history of head hunting hits. 2017 Stone, 2020 Khiara (stretchers off the ice!), 2021 Dal Colle, 2022 Crosby (after all of NY was hoping someone would “knock Crosby Out” of the playoffs.
He got knocked out. Troubadour should be locked out.

    • And he should be suspended for all the clean hits? He was suspended once 5 years ago. That’s it. the Crosby hit was almost bordeline dirty. When you have a nearly clean track record as he does, the league will give you the benefit of the doubt.

  416. I don’t believe there is a market for Petry. I kept hearing Montreal fans say that he can still play defense, but my eyes told me otherwise, seeing him get beat in his own zone repeatedly, even after the coaching change. If the Habs want to rid themselves of his entire salary hit, expect to add a significant sweetener to the deal. There is no appetite for his presence in Detroit. Saying he can be a mentor tells me that he can’t play anymore.

  417. The Leafs got screwed with COVID and the NHL salary cap NOT going up.

Another good player will be lost this summer.

  418. Hall is a little cheap shot artist. First he takes out Nathan MacKinnon with a head shot, now he sucker punches a defenseless player. He makes Will Smith proud!

  419. Considering Claude lives in Ottawa, his girlfriend is from Ottawa and his ex agent is the assistant GM in Ottawa, makes sense

  420. BOSTON NEEDS A DEFENSMEN ( GET RID OF ( CARLOS ) HE’S BEEN ON THE ICE FOR MORE GOALS AGAINST AT ANY TIME >>..( PLENTY OF BETTER GUYS OUT THERE !)…
ARE YOU GUYS WATCHING (#25) OR ARE YOU BLIND***
WE WILL NEVER BE A CONTENDER IF YOU DON’T GET RID-OF #25 CARLO !!!!
PS: KEEP DABRUSK DONT MAKE ANYMORE MISTAKES HE’S YOUR FUTURE.
SWEENY GO BACK TO ALL YOUR BAD TREADS, NOW THEY ARE SUPER STARS WITH OTHER TEAMS

  421. It’ll take more than just Chiarot to get Pelletier.

Montreal is probably going to have to settle for a second and a lesser prospect.

  422. I have written about who would be a Myers replacement if we trade him. I suppose there are options when you have an extra $6M to play with. I believe the Canucks need to trade him if the right deal pops up. Hamonic by way of an example seems to be playing great hockey and would not look out of place next to OEL. Having room and CAP space to sign some top notch young talent in a summer trade cant hurt either. Problem is, if the Canucks are still in the hunt I dont see how the management team will want to upset the psyche of the team buy trading a key component (if they dont have to).

  423. Out of the three mentioned defenceman, I will take Jakob Chychrun for a 1st round pick, Rasmus Sandin and Pierre Engvall.

  424. The Leafs don’t need Brock Boeser or J.T. Miller. Toronto needs a gritty defenceman and a goalie that can stop a puck.

They will be knocked out of the first round of the playoffs again.

The team has no grit, desire, willing to sacrifice the body to make it through the playoffs. They are too soft.

  425. Only a TML fan would think to write about trading for a forward after losing one of the two decent defensive d’man on their roster.

  426. Pretty sure the Bruins are going to climb to 3rd in their division By seasons end.

Just staying. 4-1 lose to Florida seems like a stretch unless the Bruins run into injury issues

  427. Everyone says they aren’t contenders and then they beat up on the leagues best teams. Carolina is the only one they haven’t had much luck with.

1LD is probably the best, first move they can make and it pretty much needs to be Chychrun.

Second is a 1RW that doesn’t need to officially be a 1RW. Just need to help Bergy and Marchy as more of a goal scorer, first on puck. This can be a rental like a P Kessel

  428. Not bad playoff predictions. I think the Leafs can do damage in the playoffs if they get goaltending.

Calgary is the team to watch in the West.

I say it is a Calgary vs Colorado Western Conference Final matchup.

Eastern Conference Final is Carolina vs Toronto or Florida

Tampa will be knocked out by Florida or the Leafs.

  429. horrible predictions.

Vegas is done in by the Curse of the Prima Donna (aka the Eichel Effect).

Toronto isn’t built for the playoffs, there’s practically no chance they take out Tampa far less Florida.

Florida and Carolina have the best chance in the east, Colorado and Calgary in the west.

  430. The Toronto Maple Leafs are not going anywhere in the playoffs until they find a goalie that can stop a puck.

I like the Varlamov trade option.

  431. Boston is not realistically a Stanley Cup contender this year. If they make a trade it should be for young left handed defenseman or a second line centre with term. If this is not possible then they should keep their draft picks and get on with a rebuild!!

  432. The Leafs need defensive help, not another offensive forward in J.T. Miller.

The goalies also need to make a save or it will be another 1st round playoff exit.

  433. Boston is on the decline, not a Stanley Cup contender. Don’t make any trades, save your draft picks and prospects. Rebuild on the fly over the next few years.

  434. Boeser is effectively a rental now. Only an idiot would give him his 7.5M qualifying offer so he’ll wind up being a UFA this summer rather than an RFA.

As a rental he’d fetch a late first and probably a little something extra from a contender if the Canucks retain salary and/or take an expiring big contract back. Without retention or a contract going back, contenders can’t afford his contract and non contenders won’t be at all interested in that 7.5M QO due this summer.

  435. This pisses me off. If the NHL allows this again after what Tampa did with Nikita Kucherov last year, not fair! The NHL is just allowing teams to stock up for a playoff run.

  436. I thought this was a reputable site until I saw this nonsense about Tkachuk.

Hire some writers who don’t just make things up and repeat the crap writers for other teams made up.

  437. I sure hope they’re not thinking about getting Dvorak. The Canadiens players they should be looking at acquiring are Toffoli, Anderson at RW and Chiarot at LD.

If they get a center JT Miller or Tomas Hertl would be far better options for short term veteran help and Pavel Zaca or Jared McCann for younger cheaper long term solutions. There are plenty of other players who’d be much better fits in Calgary than Dvorak.

  438. Actually on Chychrun if the Coyotes took Zadorov instead of Hanifin, the Flames could make it Zadorov, a first, Valimaki or Mackey AND Gawdin or Phillips

  439. Toffoli, Anderson and Chiarot would all be good adds from the Canadians. Ottawa doesn’t really have anything the Flames need that they’d trade unless they’re willing to trade Connor Brown.

Giroux probably costs too much to acquire. A bigger grittier more physical center like JT Miller or Tomas Hertl would be a better fit. Or a young player with a low cap hit that they can afford to keep longer, someone like Pavel Zacha.

And then there’s always Jacob Chychrun. He’d be worth trading Hanifin, a first and a prospect like Gawdin or Phillips, maybe even Valimaki for.

  440. Claude makes sense. Dallas would be giving an in conference rival a major weapon to wield against them dealing Joe P to the AVS. But hey, maybe the GM is eyeing a new job 😉

  441. Is there any way that Nick Leddy could be traded back to the NY Islanders? He is the exact type of player we need. There must be a way…

  442. The Leafs would have to give up prospects like Mikhail Abmarov, Nick Robertson and a pick which the don’t have. Miller on the Leafs would not work and if Dubas was smart he would keep the Matthews, Bunting and Marner line together.

  443. The Bruins have the perfect RHD for the Canucks in Brandon Carlo.Even though the Boston faithfull would not like this, the Bruins desperately need a center to replace 37 someday.Carlo obviously would have to be packaged with someone but I think he is the one young Bruin who could be attractive to other teams. He has a very good long term contract that comes with him.Include Debrusk with him and anyone else to get a serious trade done.Bruins need to stop renting at the deadline and make a significant trade.

  444. Teams are more likely to be renters because of the risk with getting players with term on their contract. The Bruins should be one of the teams that take a chance because their core is very close to the end.I hope they learned something with the Krecji situation.I am advocating that they take a shot at Chycrun or JTmiller.Mcavoy desperately needs a solid number 1 d partner, who could play with him for 10 years.Miller would be insurance in case Bergeron follows Krecji out the door. The Bruins do not have a top 6 center in their entire organization, that could replace either 37 or 46.

  445. Lol… Try harder. Why would the Canucks trade a number 1 center for a couple of maybe NHL prospects and a salary dump?

Really the leafs have nothing of interest for the Canucks. We need a RHD and the only one you have is Liljegrin and he’s not even good.

Canucks will get a better package from other teams.

  446. So the Oilers do not want to give up any assets to improve the team. They will be hard pressed to make the playoffs. Wasting away Connor McDavid in his prime. What a shame.

  447. It seems as if the Maple Leafs are interested in anyone that is going to be traded. K.D. must make his presence known in their division as well! Ben is the make-up D-man they need! Josh seems to be a wishful d-man Toronto would like also! The asking price is high for Josh, Toronto needs a D-man who knows what is expected of him plus he is much better all around. I know K.D. would love a guy like Josh Mason. This time it is a no brainer to obtain Ben Chiarot! He is a defesive minded player & would help younger d-men improve their skills. I like Josh, & know he would be good for them too. I understand it will cost more also!

  448. Forgot all about Mr Subban !!!
PK might be reborn coming to Toronto..
Certainly a colourful player, I think he thrives on the limelight .
Toronto might even be able to re- sign him if he performs to a level of certainty …
The price going back to Jersey might be affordable , other than the dreaded cap , which I am sure can be figured out …
Leafs are DESPERATE , too many blown leads, weak on the blue line .
They almost need 2 defenseman IMO
    Chiarot and Subban ,
Unfortunately , I just don’t think Dubais has the hockey IQ to get it done ?
Muzzin has looked out of place this year , ERROR prone !!’ Not Good
Another 1st round exit , could be the end of the Dubais era ?!?!

  449. I would like nothing better thank to see Ben Chiarot a Maple Leaf . He is a punishing force in front of the net . I actually hold Chiarot responsible for a past on going Austin Matthews shoulder injury .
Leafs are not looking favourable with these blown leads come the third period , definitely a pattern , concern , and OMG – dreaded thought of another 1st round exit , especially in a very difficult , competitive division .
The backup goaltender is another concern, as Campbell hasn’t been his normal self lately either .The Leafs will not obtain Chiarot for only a first round draft pick , a high end prospect will have to be included , a bit of a no brainer , as I feel many teams will be in , as per this player , and the new GM , and VP will be trying to make a statement !

  450. TOFFOLI IS THE ONLY PLAYER WITH ANY CHEMISTRY WITH SUZUKI. EASY TO TRADE, HARD TO REPLACE. CAN LIKELY PLAY UNTIL 35, SMART, KNOWS POSITIONING, CAN SCORE – YUP 1ST ROUNDER AND A 2ND LINE PROSPECT?

HOPE YOU FIND SOMEONE SMART AND GIFTED TO PLAY WITH SUZUKI – AND CAN WE PUT A WINGER WITH SIZE, SMARTS ON THE OTHER SIDE (HYMAN, CLARK GILLIES, THACHUK TYPE…PLEASE)

  451. He can still be effective. Has played well at times on a bad team. Also he is not being used on the power play much by the Devils.

  452. have enough talent dmen in organization and we might bundle someone else like jvr for a scorer. yourk aqlreay playing20 pls mins and can t5ake over for prov

  453. I would be very surprised if the Habs decided to trade Andy. Depending on the direction they go with the rebuild, I think they will want to keep a few veterans around. Apparently the Habs wanted a player like Anderson for a long time. He is their only forward with any toughness, plus he has leadership qualities and can be a mentor to the young Montreal core. Anything can happen, but I really don’t see him leaving.

  454. not bad but how about a Nick Ritchie and Dermott plus their first to Montreal for Chariot or Arizona for Chychrun, money should work out

  455. Seriously NO this is one of only a few player the flyers don’t trade
    There’s rebuild and theirs retool
Flyers ain’t that bad least yet
    React don’t over react

  456. I think Kyle Dubas should do the trade! He has signed enough NHL ready players to make the trade. Also , the Maple Leafs have plenty of players that could be moved out to even out the salary of Jacob. There will be need of more money at seasons end. This would be a good signing due to the fact Dubas wanted a player with term if he made a trade. It is now a matter of what pieces to trade for Jacob & what players will stay & which are traded? Dubas is a master at making these kinda trades work! If it is true Jacob is available, do the trade Kyle!

  457. Yes the Habs should tank. Carey Price is THEIR team and without him, they have nothing. Montreal should do everything to finish last to have the best odds at drafting Shane Wright.

  458. The Kings make sense because they could send five or six players for Eichel. Would the Kings give up let’s say Villardi, Ty Madden, Grundstrom, Trevor Moore, Wagner– I think they might come up with a combination that works for them and betters whatever Buffalo will be offered for an injured player. No one discusses it, but there is risk in this severe a neck injury.

  459. They’re never going to get rid of Crosby in a trade! The city would completely abandon the team. Completely 100 % irrelevant and really just a genuinely stupid article…

  460. Holy shit who are these analysts?? Did they watch last postseasons collapse? It wasn’t a lack of grit it was that our 2 star players choked and couldn’t score more than 1 goal combined.

  461. Offer sheet? Next summer? If the latter is a bridge deal now while he is currently signed under his entry level deal, how is an offer sheet a threat?

  462. Now that someone is starting to predict the Islanders will make it further, I predict that they will miss the playoffs.
My Islanders play best when nobody sees them coming.

  463. why do you report the vancouver cap issue in a deceptive way? add a possible 3.5 for Ferland, and they have about five too many players on the roster starting at an aav of about 750k. do the math right please.

  464. When they started calling Jack campbell soup as a nickname … first thing that comes to mind is mikheyev … wasnt the season just before he was the souperman ?

Im a die hard leafs fan born and raised . But come on isnt this the type of culture … thats been suspected for years . Read between the lines .

  465. This is good, except for the fact that you guys think the oilers will get past a round. Every one says that the oilers will win rounds, but they can barely win playoff games. With an offseason like that NO WAY! I also believe Calgary is going to make it this year.

  466. we pre much the exact same perdictions, the west side is pre much prefect with the p vegas edmonton vancover and the central having both wildcards

  467. As a Leafs fan I have zero faith in my team after what happened last season. But on the other hand, the Leafs do like preforming well in the regular season and give their fans hope that maybe this year will be the one we win a round, just to choke in another game 7 situation. Going to be very close with teams like the bruins and panthers but honestly knowing the Leafs luck, we’ll probably end up 3rd with Boston taking second, ultimately having to play them in the first round and lose yet another game 7 to them. Basically screw the Leafs, you’re the reason why I have anxiety and trust issues. Win a round and maybe I’ll start to know what happiness feels like.

  468. This team is what it is. They are in transition and while they are fully capable of going on a run, they need to start the build around Pasta, Carlo, McAvoy, Swayman/Ulmark. The Rick Nash trade ends up looking worse every day so no more deadline crap. The playoffs are a crap shoot and health is a huge part of it. Keep your picks, if DeBrusk gets you what you need so be it. At the end of the day, the next few years are going to depend on whether Studnicka is what they drafted him to be. Coyle will work as a 2C but who is taking Bergeron’s place in two years?

  469. What do you think of this swap: FLYERS GET: TKACHUK, GAUDREAU, TANEV.
FLAMES GET: VORACHEK, JVR, GHOST, 2021 1st Round
Draft Pick, 2023 2nd Round Draft Pick.

  470. Philly’s first round pick (#13) would be a good start to a trade for Gaudreau but they’d have to add something else pretty good.

  471. A bodybuilder friend that I worked with and I went through the Lloyd Percival Fitness Institute on a 2 man tour in 1969. We were told by the man who took us around, that to that date, Gordie Howe had the greatest wrist strength ever measured by them.

I met Jimmy Thompson, in 1987, the former star Leaf defenseman who played against Howe and I asked him about Howe and he said: “You had to watch him, his elbows came up awfully fast in the corners.”. Jim was a real nice man and I could see that in that talk, and he said that without hesitation, so I knew it was true for sure.

  472. JE is another overpaid weasel whining his way out of a city. If I were Buffalo, Id not trade him, take the captaincy away for saying it would be “cool” to play for the team’s mosy hated rival, and make him honor his contract. If he doesnt like it, let him hild out for five years and tarnich what little legacy he has created.

  473. i love kaner i love dunc i love toews but we need to lose money dont get suckerd in to tradeing dach i do like the 23 on the sabers he could realy help us stay away from eichel we dont need damaged goods .

  474. Having a C who can win faceoffs, score goals and play with the attitude and nastiness Kadri brings every game would be perfect. I can deal with the fact he goes over the edge every now and then to make this team tougher to play against.

  475. If JE is available from Buff and the leafs can get him for marner that is a no brainer trade with 90 % health. JE is a bull that is fast and can shoot the puck. Mariner is the most overrated player in NHL. He makes 1 highlight reel play and it erases the 10 previous turnovers or shots in the goalies bred basket. He is a star 3 on 3 no contact hockey player. He will have a herniated disc soon also if he keeps staring at the sky. Leafs cant win with him in this lineup considered the 2nd best player and many in leaf nation think he is the best. They r delirious. Seth jones keith tkachuk landeskog many trades available to better leafs. Marner has to be traded. Jack eichel along side matthews on PP. Either one can bury it. Either one rarely turns over pucks and both retrieve them. Healthy JE in leaf unform would be exciting . We should give them reilly also and liligren for rousteleinen. Now leafs contend.

  476. Should Leafs trade MM in the off-season? In 18 PO games in his career with the Leafs, how many goals has Marner scored for the Leafs? ZERO!
They must do something – he makes nearly $ 22 million per year. We need a top D- man. Trade MM.

  477. No the Senators won’t trade for Monahan. Garrioch thinks the Flames will give Monahan away for next to nothing just because he wishes they would. If wishes were horses…

Ottawa would have to start by offering Drake Batherson (or maybe Connor Brown) just to get Calgary talking. And add from there.

Brady surely won’t be on the table. If he was the Flames would happily trade Monahan and more to get the Tkachuk brothers together in Calgary. Highly unlikekt Norris would be either. Probably not Stutzle or Chabot either, but the Flames shouldn’t be interested in either of them anyhow. About the last thing Calgary needs is yet another offensive defenseman (especially not a left shooting LD) and the next last thing is yet another top 6 LW.

That leaves Batherson and possibly Brown as the only players Calgary would have enough interest in to think about trading Monahan.

  478. What are they (Blackhawks) waiting for? Trade Keith ASAP.. he can’t skate anymore, avoids contact (players & puck) at all costs & and leads the team in turnovers… Put the koolaid down & let the kids play!

  479. Panthers have dealt with “problem” players before (IE: Mike Hoffman) so De Angelo shouldn’t be much different…………..Yandle could be a great teacher for him. And I’m a Ranger fan.

  480. Yes. Someone close to hockey in Boston believes DeBrusk is being traded for Mantha now that they have both started to turn the corner. Detroit saves a little salary for a few years and both players get the change of scenery they need longer term.

  481. Brent Seabrook retired from hockey after 15 seasons in the nhl Duncan Keith is the last Blackhawks defenseman at age 37 should Florida Colorado Boston should be interested in 3 time Stanley Cup Champion Duncan Keith who’s been in Chicago for 16 years

  482. He’s a winner–has a winning attitude, trains hard, and this winning rubs off on the younger players. Any line he’s on–he makes the other players better, and opens up the ice for them. He is one of the main reasons I love watching the Hawks–and even non-Blackhawks fans do too. I would take a McDavid or MacKinnon for him, though 🙂

  483. Sweeney is AWFUL and clueless…this confirms that the 2015 was a BUST…3 1st round picks…all SUCK….Neeley is a usless figure head….Backs signing a joke….

  484. I don’t think Sweeney has the right stuff to make a major move he always blows it, jimmy Hayes etc the list is endless hopeless!look at his record at the draft please fire this guy

  485. Thumbs up to you Rob Ellis. TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS SHOULD TRADE FOR GRIT.
If Kyle Dubas does not acquire some GRIT then it will be another disappointing early exit from the playoffs this year. It’s too bad that we lost out on the opportunity to acquire Sam Bennett.
Darryl Sutter certainly knows the value of grit and he will patch things up with Bennett. That said there are still some players out there that can fill the role. Borowiecki comes to mind. Rumour has it that he is available and certainly won’t cost 8 million.

  486. Leaf’s don’t need a Taylor Hall. He comes with a very high price tag and is another under-achiever. The Leaf’s would have to move out some salary even if Buffalo pays 50% of his salary. He would only be a rental as he is a free agent next season. Hall only has two goals in 24 games this year. He does have 16 assists. That is not good enough for a player earning 8 million dollars. Consistency and Grit is what the Leafs need most. Taylor Hall does not fill the bill in either category. KD needs to keep looking.

  487. thanks for this. So many of the best American players are playing for Canadian teams. 8 out of 20. Why doesn’t Betfag make some trades?

  488. Sorry, late to the article but why would the Bruins lose in a series to Washington when the B’s are predicted to finish first and Washington last in the Division? Makes no sense even though the Caps does have the Bruins number to a point.

  489. Patrick Kane is invaluable to the Blackhawks. The way he trains and his ability to keep his skills precision sharp is about being smart…not as much about being physical. Kane was never a physical player. He would be an asset to the Chicago Blackhawks coaching and training team whenever he decides to make that directional move

  490. The next CBA has to address these dealing “dead” contracts……….the players will never play again……….just away of dealing with the salary cap. Stupid Loop Hole.

  491. Please give Mark borowiecki what he deserves in a new contract. He deserves allot better.

  492. There are three of us Senator’s Fans who watch every game and for sure we don’t want Mark Borowiecki or Deylen Melo to be traded. If we lose Mark Borowiecki we will have lost the heart of our Senators Team. He is too valuable in our community. It was bad enough to lose Jean Gabriel Pageau. Give the fans a break & give him a generous contract that he so deserves& lets keep him & his family in Stittsville,.With losing Zack Smith & Mark Stone that hurt enough. Lets do this right this time

  493. No big GOALIE market? Fine BUT if a goalie is dealt, bet on it being NYR’s Alexander Greogiev, we can’t keep 3 and Shesterkin is a keeper.

  494. Retain salary?? He is a UFA after this year, so if they trade him at the deadline (Feb 24) for a bag of pucks, and assuming they would retain 50% of his salary (for a whopping 6 weeks), it is peanuts. Such small peanuts, in fact, that it will have a decimal point impact of either club’s cap.

  495. i can’t understand how a guy like shanahan would go with dubas a snowflake, knowing how integral it is to have toughness to win meaningfull games.Sadly not even a good regular season team.GET RID OF BOTH BEFORE IT GETS WORSE !

  496. Trade him LMAO who would take him? He is the worst defenceman in the NHL right now making NINE MILLION. Unless the Devils retain 7-7.5 million, nobody is touching that.

  497. lthe toronto eafs should go after Subban for defense. That they desperately need and trade with Pittsburgh for one of thier two backups goalies ! they got a chance to get in the playoffs with a decent back up goalie!

  498. Matthews displayed terrible character through this entire mess. The incident happened in May, before hot got his fifteen million dollar signing bonus, before a Captain was named. Matthews made it clear he believes his needs and wants are more important than his team or team mates. Worse, his agent and parents followed suit. Their collective lack of character and decency should cost him the Captaincy. He is no leader until he learns to take personal responsibility for his actions. He proved at twenty two he is a kid with much to learn, an alarming arrogance and an entitled bully. Would he and his buddies have harassed a six foot five male former marine? Doubt it. Tavares, Reilly or Marner should wear the C…not Matthews. Not ever.

  499. I agree, no he shouldn’t. He was a very good consistant player but but not Hall of Fame status. Theres lots of guys with his numbers and never made it. You should be a special plyer to get in, he is not.

  500. As an Islander fan I love your predictions. LOL. Also Toronto is not that good defensively. It will be tough for them to beat Boston.

  501. Nashville Predators Subban should go; he is a financial liability with $9 million/year cap hit and he is slower than slow. I think his skills are over rated and ability to play one-on-one defense is poor. Trade him straight up for a scoring forward/center. Edmonton or Toronto both need d-men; even if the Preds have to eat some of his salary. This is all the Preds need to win it all. Subban is dead weight; the game slows to a snails pace with him in the game. D-men in our farm system are ready…Fabrro enter!

  502. I think they could trade ceci depends what they get for him but Ottawa have Nick Paul with the hardest slap shot at 108.8 mph not to many goalies would like him if he was playing on defence .

  503. Duschene or Stone (or both, yeah riiiight) would be nice! The Isles already have the best defense in the NHL judging by the numbers, so a top six winger or center seems the most likely move. The Islanders are going to be a very tough out for any team in the east.

The Maple Leafs better hope they don’t come up against the Isles come playoff time – eliminating the liar Tavares would be sooooooo sweet & will no doubt serve as extra motivation for “his” former team that he ABANDONED… Tavares is a selfish, me first guy that led his teammates to believe he was an Islander, only to leave them high & dry with NOTHING to show for it! He knew he wasn’t signing with the Isles & lied about his intentions the entire time, it was soooo obvious! The Isles could’ve moved him at the deadline & got something for the overrated narcissist.

Not overrated? What has he done?! NOTHING.

Anders Lee is a MUCH better leader/captain! The Islanders are better without Tavares – MUCH better. It all worked out for the good though, in reality the Leafs exchanged Martin, Komorov & Lamoriello for Tavares. I’ll take that deal any day of the week! Let’s GO Islanders!

  504. Where is Will Butcher? I mean only Hedman had a better assist per 60 minutes on the Powerplay And HE ALSO GOT FREAKING 44 PTS AS A ROOKIE

  505. Hmmm? To be honest id say Columbus misses the playoffs and New Jersey, Buffalo are the Wild card playoff spots teams and also Colorado makes it instead of Chicago

    • The 3 Options for John Tavares will be:

      1. He re-signs with the New York Islanders (50%)
      2. He signs with the San Jose Sharks (25%)
      3. He signs with the Toronto Maple Leafs (25%)

July 1st will be an interesting day. But I do not see him signing with the Habs.

  506. I’m amazed, I have to admit. Seldom do I encounter a blog that’s both educative and engaging, and let
me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head. The issue is
something that too few men and women are speaking intelligently about.
Now i’m very happy I found this during my search
    for something relating to this.

  507. You think Toronto has room for Tavares? This is why nobody gives your site credibility.

Who are your sources? Do you have any? Probably not; therefore you make up rumors so people will read your lies…

    • Dan, from what I see in the article, his post is referenced from sources. Your eyes might need to be checked or you are a disgruntled Habs fan.

I do doubt the Leafs sign Tavares to a 1-year contract, but you never know?

  508. When Larry Brooks comments on the Isles, you can take it to the bank it will go the other way. He just likes to throw as much s–t at the wall and see if anything sticks.

  509. I have noticed you don’t monetize your website, don’t waste your traffic, you can earn additional bucks
every month because you’ve got high quality content.

If you want to know how to make extra bucks, search for: Mrdalekjd methods for $$$

  510. How do you have the Atlantic sending 2 teams to the WC? The Atlantic is shit. The Senators got in by pure luck last season. They don’t have a good team, it was a fluke. The Sabres got marginally better this season and they’re still not very good. There will be 5 Metro teams in the playoffs: shitsburgh, WSH, CAR, COL, & PHL

    • Why does everyone have the Rangers missing the playoffs? They’re the one team from the top 4 in the metro that actually got better. might not be as good as the pens still but they’re a playoff team.

      1.PIT
      2.Caps
      3.NYR
4.Columbus (WC) (we also forget that other for the win streak they were a .500 team)
      5. Carolina (wc)

  548. I really think mat muray is the man for the pens and not marc andre fleury. He been there awhile now so and he won two Stanley cup finals with pen

  549. Brooks is an idiot. Doesn’t know anything about hockey, just a rumor monger. No way they give up all those players for Trouba. How about some real rumors, like why was Gorton and Drury at Ducks game vs Isles

  550. Ah, hab mich schon gefragt was das für eine Leiste ist.Was bedeuten denn die grünen und die grauen Punkte hinter den Namen?

  551. In what world is Anti Niemi better than Fleury? In fact Mark is better than all but maybe 10 of these guys. Murray is better than most of theee guys too bundorsnnotmhavr the body of work they do. Too bad all your little pictures they use here are from pictures where the animals are long since dead.

  552. Bowmeester and Pete will play together as will burns and vlasy, it only makes sense, why split them up? I also can’t picture a lineup where Bergeron and marchand are on the same team but not actually playing together, for the sake of chemistry they should be together and they proved last season that they perform at world class level on the same line

  553. The Isles need to free cap space but if they expect a team to take on all 9M over the next 2 years I doubt that draft pick will be very high. Probably 3rd rounder at best.

  554. Show evidence of a rumor that Tavares is unhappy with the Islanders? And it can’t be from anyone that lives in, works for, or roots for Toronto.

  555. Please stop posting any articles by Larry Brooks and the Islanders. He knows nothing. 2 weeks ago he suggested the Isles should trade for Stamkos. Everyone loves playing for the Rangers living in Manhattan but commuting to practice in Westchester but no one is willing to commute to a game in Brooklyn but live and practice on the Island.

  556. If Larry Brooks is talking Islanders hockey, he is usually wrong or talking out of his *ss. I do think the Isles will make a trade but for Stamkos, please. An unrestricted free agent to be that in no way will come back next year. And even if he does will command 10M a year. Tavares will want the same. 20M tied up in 2 players. Will never happen. I think the Isles will look to bolster their D or get a 2nd line type winger that could help JT but also cushion the possible loss of Okposo in the off-season.

  557. Dustin Byfuglien is traded for sure if the Jets are out of playoff contention after Christmas. Jets will most likely trade him to an eastern conference team.

  558. I dont believe for 1 second that the Bruins are interested in Ehrhoff, they dont need any more left shot Dmen, in fact they need to trade 1, his name is Seidenbrg.

  559. You suggestion that the Leafs were not happy with Marner just doesn’t add up.
What it means that the Leafs would have dropped four places (and maybe not draft Marner) but would have received three additional picks….8, 34, 38, 58.
The Leafs could have Hanifin Provoff or Werenski at 4, but were happy with Marner.
The Leafs wanted to draft a forward and Philly and CBJ a defencemen .
Interestlingly, the Leafs trade their 20th? pick with Philly and then Philly’s picks to Columbus for a total of four picks.
Like the video coverage but not not the writer’s conclusion

  560. Washington needs a goal scorer Carlson fills rh power play d for caps, kessel about the same age so one for one swap kessel for green caps a solid team good goalie ov and backstrom up front several big tough bob gainey types ie, chimera, ward, troy brower a scorer of kessels ilk would benefit this hockey team

  561. Please Leafs, pull off a trade with the Devils and let’s get the 4th and 6th overall pick in the draft… maybe we will land Dylan Strome and Lawson Crouse?

    • The Nuge is waaay to brittle…..he’ll never last 4 rounds of playoffs ……wait a minute …..Ed’s not making any playoffs

  562. Nice predictions. Gotta lean towards St. Louis taking the west this year though. All around better than the Ducks, comparable to Chicago but Elliot looks better than Crawford this year, and Blackhawks are without Kane.

  563. I don’t think the maple leafs should trade james reimer because he is a good goalie and he could be a even better goalie in a few years so if james reimer becomes a amazing goalie in a few years the leafs won’t have to go through no truble to get him and is the leafs see this make sure Reimer dose to because I do think that he could be the next carry price in a few years and I belive that.he should be a starter goalie in Toronto because bernier is playing really bad and they need to realize that reimer could be a starter goalie

  564. Yeah the Habs will trade Galchenyuk and Emelin for Yakapov. Are you guys serious? OF COURSE that would be enough to get the deal done for Edmonton, unless Pit offered up a Dman and threw Crosby in to seal the deal. Galchenyuk is not Crosby but he is better than Yak so why would Mtl trade the superior player and Emelin?

  565. The Leafs piss me off. Blow up the team and let’s rebuild once again! Too bad our record is decent enough that will will not get McDavid.

  566. would love to see ebbs in toronto but its gonna take more than gardner, maybe gardiner, bozak, reimer and a second rounder for eberle and yakapov?

  567. the leafs rumour better not happen that would be stupid trade just keep building with what u have and keep ur first round picks too look at LA have done learn from ur stupid past trades u done don’t make the trade

  571. this Toronto maple leaf team is still a croc of sht they are not going any where NUNIS you have no players just like every year
same old same old no drafts no trades no players nunis and no general manager and what a joke for a captain

  572. Zetterberg really? Zetterberg is signed through the 2020-2021 season and he’s our captain and Is’nt going any where especially to Buffalo.

  573. Vancouver finishing last in the Pacific? After a historically bad season, that saw them go from 3rd in the west to out of the playoffs, you expect Calgary AND Edmonton to leapfrog them? Please give me some of what you’re smoking! I don’t know that my ‘Nucks will make the playoffs, but they will definitely finish higher than last in the Pacific. Getting rid of Kesler was a plus, and they added depth in the trade. Kes was cancer in the room by the end and with added youth, the twins ramping it up knowing their end is in sight in 3 or 4 years, I predict a surprising season for Vancouver.

  574. Biz and his type no longer of value in today’s NHL. Must know how to play, not just fight. Bettman way overpaid. I could do his job and would do it or 1 million per year. Not kidding. For some reason Therrien loves Bouillon. He may be the only NHL coach who does.

    • lmfao the rangers winning the cup? Right lmfao and the jets finishing last…………..get a clue and get informed on hockey…horrible predictions.

      • Well Ryan, I think it is you that needs some education on hockey. Looks like the dudes predictions were pretty good and the NYR have a GREAT chance of being Stanley Cup winners. Looks like your bashing of someone has backed fired dumbass!

    • I actually agree for a few things like NYR reaching east final this year again… but win the cup seems very bold to me!

      I see more

EAST final MTL vs NYR= MTL 4-3
WEST final CHI vs NSH= CHI 4-2

I like to think the cup will stay in the west, but this year might be MTL’s 25th cup. Carey Price seems outstanding if not unstoppable. They concede the less goals in the league and historically in the last 5 years the teams who concede the less reaches finals. I have to say, only if MTL gets a good trade on deadline they could be considered as a serious team.

  576. Terrible predictions. First off St. Louis as the 8th seed? That team could win the presidents trophy. Never count Detroit out of the playoffs. I think Tampa comes out of the east with tons young talent\bishop in net. Everyone pencils Chicago or LA into the finals, but c’mon, every playoff team improved dramatically in the west. I’ll take Dallas or Colorado in a surprising west conference playoffs

  577. So your saying with a rookie head coach, who has been coaching his entire pro career in the WHL is going to take the Penguins to the Stanley Cup Final? Im sorry but the penguins are a mess right now and have a ways to go before they become an elite contender in the NHL. The only thing the Penguins have right now is Malkin and Crosby. The Penguins will make the playoffs next year however I can’t see them being higher than a 7th or 8th seed.

    • Totally, Shane. These predictions look like they account for very little that happened over the summer. Penguins will be no higher than 2nd in their div. Probably 3rd.

  578. Generally, I like your predictions.
    With one but –
The Phil/Pitt series. Either team that makes it out of that round is going to be so beat up and so depleted that they are not going to make it through the next round.

  579. Will NOT happen. As much as I would like it to happen. Rivals people rivals. The only way this would happen is that there would need to be a 3rd team involved ( Edmonton )?

  580. I have to wonder if Phaneuf for Eller would be a straight trade or part of a bigger package. Would be interesting to see what the Habs and Leafs would give eachother.

  581. Will Leaf TV now be eliminated from broadcasting games and why no indication of the broadcast network for many of the Leaf games.

  582. Love your predictions… they are pretty good.

A Western conference team will win the cup. Anaheim or LA again for me.

  583. How would it sink the Leafs? They could get decent value back for him I think. Reimer wasn’t good at all last year. With his classic look behind him after he makes a save. Never knowing if he has the puck or not. Failing to make easy saves and it changes the whole game because of his mess ups. I like Reimer but I think he’d be better elsewhere. The Peg want him so trade Lupul,Franson and Reimer for Kane and a 2nd. That’s my opinion anyways

  584. You all just don’t get it. Phaneuf needs to go. The whole league knows this. If the Leafs are to trade him, its going to have to be worth while for the other team to make this deal. Also, consider that he is regarded as being the most over rated player in the league and with a new HUGE contract that follows him everywhere he goes. I would make this deal and run. Getting out of that ridiculous contract would be priority 1 if I was Shanny and to get that first overall pick and load up on young star d-men would be amazing. I hope it happens

    • No way man! Ya Phanuef is overrated but I don’t care what anyone says that’s a huge overpayment for an unproven prospect and a 38 year old washed up d man. Phanuef plays big minutes and isn’t easy to play against. He really isn’t as bad as everyone says. I bet when he’s gone if he goes people will flip the script and miss his presents. Take Kadri out and trade Phanuef plus 8th pick for 1st overall and the # 32 pick. Your basicly rebuilding again if u trade Phanuef and Kadri for 2 prospects. They should look into Mike Richards as well I think. I really like the new rumor of swapping Phanuef for Eric Staal too. Shanny will do something I’m sure. Team needs a culture change BAD!!

      • You are right about the possibility of better trades out there but, I doubt you will get Staal for Phanuef. The whole reason why I would do this trade is for 1 reason only. The Leafs NEED to do a proper rebuild. If they are smart, they can accomplish this in 2 years. Firstly, they should do this trade (if available) draft Ekblad then dump as much contract money as they can (Loops, Bazak, Clarkson, etc.) Crap the bed this year and hope to god you end up with McDavid in next years draft. Then you end up with a core of stud young hockey players with Kessel in his prime. I know this isn’t going to happen but that’s what I would try to do.

  585. Way to much for an unproven prospect. Come on now that trade is laughable. I’d do Phanuef for 1st overall straight up. Think about it really. Dion is a proven 1 or 2 d man that plays 25 plus minutes a night. You telling me a prospect is worth dion,Kadri and 8th overall pick for a washed up garbage d man and 1st overall pick. I’d do Phanuef and 8th overall pick for Gubranson and 1st overall. Draft Bennet and play Rielly with Gubranson. What u all think?

    • Agreed, wwwaaayyyy too much for the #1 overall pick that is unproven!

I would give up Phaneuf and our #8 for the #1. If Kadri is involved, then I would want Gubranson also.

      Howard Berger is an idiot.

  586. James Reimer is far from a dud and it’s Leaf fans like you that are going to be the reason he leaves. If he had half the support from both management and coach Carlyle the results would be different. There was no reason to bring Bernier here…The tandem of Scrivens and Reimer worked well. People that blame Reimer for game 7 collapse are a joke. Hockey is a team sport and just like this year our defense let us down big time. Reimer shut the door in Los Angeles and no one said anything…fans attack Reimers wife on twitter and hardly anyone defended hin which is a joke. He comes in cold versus Boston when bernier got hurt and shut the door again. Bernier comes back same losing result. Macintyre comes in same losing result.

    Reimer deserves better then Toronto.

    • Chris you know nothing ab out fans of the toronto maple leafs before you were born I was watching the leafs play and I remember them winning the Stanley cup and when I see for “all these years this team has fans has the money. But they have not done anything more than yap and yap like nonis who does nothing when to trade or free agency same bs every year the only time I know when they got somewhere was when Fletcher made there trade players with heart like Gilmore and I said enough. We have only few players who should stay – kessle Van Remsdyke Bernie.

  591. what I think is that the leafs should go for Jason spazza

ok the trade would look like this Dave Bolland 2 round draft for Jason spazza6 round draft

  592. lot of good skilled player and if was the gm I would pick Jason spazza because top line would be killer lol but I want to know what would you give away for him if you were the Gm let me know

  593. As long as Nonis is at the Helm were done…he is just another repeat offender of high priced long term contracts…using the excuse “well someone else would have paid them”….blowing the Salary Cap with little room to make improvements…Phanooof and Clarkson are great examples of highly overpaid guys in the right position at the right time…we can’t even resign Boland….look at how “most” of the Ex Leafs perform after they leave…instead of bringing in Players that fit the current program they attempt to “mold” them into something they are not…they leave and then excel….

    • What is the style of hockey the Leafs want to play? Boston brings in players that fit their system and get rid of players who don’t (see Kessel, Seguin). It is quite obvious that Toronto wants to freewheel. Phaneuf, Clarkson, Orr, Kulimen, Mclelland etc do not fit the system. Playing Phaneuf on the powerplay does not work. Clarkson has been a bust (Wendel Clarkson- right. Kadri needs to be with offensive players. When I see Kulimen out there I wonder what is the reasoning. We do not have a number 1 or 2 defenceman. That is obvious. On a good team Phaneuf might be number 4. The rest are number 5 defensemen. I see so many more defensive collapses coming- sad to say.

    • BRETT YOU ARE HUNDRED PERCENT RIGHT NONIS IS A PIECE OF CRAP THIS GM KNOWS NOTHING OF HOW TO BUILD A HOCKEY TEAM THE MORE HE STAYS IN TORONTO THE MORE BS WE HAVE TO HEAR SAME SHT AS ALWAYS COME FREE AGENCY’s come trades come drafts THIS GM TO YOUNG HAS NO CLUE AT ALL OF MAKING DEALS HE THINKS HE HAS A TEAM WHAT A F JOKE HE IS SO INTO HIMSELF DONT KNOW WHAT HE SMOKES OR DRINKS I THINK HE HAS THE SAME SIGNS OF PROBLEMS LIKE A MAYOR THAT ALWAYS TROUBLE BOTH MAKE TORONTO LOOK BAD ?????????

      • Nonis needed to go when Burk left…Burk would still be here and we would be in a very different position if he didn’t put his friendship ahead of the Team….Mr. Magoo (Wilson F’d much up). As long as Phanooof remains Captain we are doomed as well…he is at best a 4th liner that crumbles under pressure…I’ve said this many times since Burk departed…BRING IN THE GREAT ONE! We would regain the “Class” of 93 and attract players that will not come to TO otherwise. Carlyle a good defensive coach however we only have a couple D-Men and the rest of the Team are Thoroughbreds…meant to FLY not meant to continually shore up a a crappy defense…

  594. It would be a huge mistake if the leafs trade Kadri and Gardiner for Myers. A better trade would be Gardiner and a 2nd rounder IMO. Myers stock has fallen quite a bit since his rookie year.

    • I like most of your predictions but with the way the season is coming to a close I see boston and Colorado in the Stanley cup, but anything can happen.

  595. No, no, no, they cannot trade Subban! Would you trade a goalie who in the future will be the next Jonathan Quick? I wouldnt.
Yes the B’s need a Defenseman but not at that price. Let me clue every writer… in, the Bruins are ONLY looking for a LEFT shot Dman, not a righty, so stop throwing those names around. Second, teams like the Rangers… are still in the Playoff picture, so they wont trade players. The only guy they may trade is the guy they cant seem to sign, beyond him they wont move anyone else. Same with alot of teams that are still in the Playoff race. Right now the only teams that are clearly out of it are: Buffalo, Florida, possibly Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton & Nashville.

  596. terrible trade for st. Louis blues. miller is no better than the two st. Louis goalies they have now. miller a free agent at end of year and aging quick. wake up and learn from the david perron trade. they should of traded berglin. his salarie was only 500,000 les than perrons. perron has over 14 goals compared to berglins 5

  597. Throw Zach Bogosian into the mix and let’s make it really interesting…

Leafs, ideally need an elite centre and a premium defenseman. Why stop,

at 1 solution, fix the problem in 1 blockbuster sweep…Jets crave a

goaltender, Kane and Bogosian need a change of face, as do Kadri and

Gardiner, but still not enough to get this deal done. Any suggestions,

what ever else we could offer. Something drastic is going to erupt in

Winnipeg, please let it be the Leafs, as the trading partner…

  598. I think Jason Speeza is an excellent player, but not fit to be a captain…he can’t be trusted in some situations, and that sets a bad example…The Sens need a leader to replace Alfredsson…Not sure Karlsson or Philips fit the bill…They may have to import one

  599. Tim Cooke your trades are worthless Toronto can’t make moves cause they don’t have anything worth giving…. Edmonton want a goalie not a career backup at best……Phaneuf and Clarkson? Ya really Peg will jump on 12 million useless for Buff…. They could bring it 3 young players and a draft pick for Buff

    • Have you looked at what Edmonton is paying for a second string goalie now for Dubnyk 3.5 million…. Reimer @ 1.8 is a much better goalie then Dubnyk…
Buffalo is one of the teams that has inquired about Gardner and so has Winnipeg about Phanuff, before the contract extention….

  600. Go after Dustin Byfuglien as well as Steve Ott and Sam Ganger
    Its do-able
Edmonton needs a goalie, trade Riemer
Buffalo offer up Gardner for Ott and a draft pick
Winnipeg, offer them Phanuff and Clarkson

  601. TO PHIL. Buff
    TO WPG. Kimo and Streit

TO EDM. Kimo and Streit and Devin
TO WPG. Gagner, prospect player and the first round pick for 2014.

  602. Wow nice call on the trade! Who are your sources?

Gleason will be a great addition and add some more toughness. Wonder if Jake Gardiner will be traded next?

  603. Leafs actually won last night, still not playing well, Nonis needs to make some trades or let Tank Nation start and let’s get some good draft picks.

I hear that Jake Gardiner or Cody Franson will be traded for a top-six forward.

    • WELL WELL?????? HELLO CALLING DAVE NONIS AFTER LAST NIGHTS GAME ARE YOU STILL THERE DAVE ,.,.,.,. 604. I cannot believe how the Leafs have tanked….. they really are not a good team…. The Leafs have good goaltending and that is about it.

Gardiner is our only great trad-able asset but who would we get for me? Who is available?

  605. First off we need a REAL Captain….remember Darryl Sittler, Wendel Clark, Doug Gilmour, Matts Sundin? We need someone who LEADS by example on the ice not a guy who coughs up the puck more often than not leading to momentum changes and goals….that should be added into the “Stats”.
Gretzky is a perfect fit in TO. Randy Carlyle is a “defensive” coach unfortunately he is coaching the wrong Team as the Leafs are a “RUSHING” Team….We have a Team with no confidence and no Identity WE NEED LEADERSHIP from top to bottom….

    • YOUR right Bret we need a real captain this guy we have is a joke not woth a peice of coon sht just like his bosses from the top down we have a general manager who does nothing except give big bucks to players who get there contract then stop playing and we have players who talk about excuses over excuses this team is so unprodictable they are so lost we need a shake up bring all young players up forget this season we are done aready and send all the schmucks to the marleis send over rated players like kadri phaneuf gardiner rielly franson DAVE NONIS AND ALL THE TOP EXECS WHO ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY NOT FANS WE HAVENT HEARD BOO FROM OWNERS ABOUT THE TEAM THIS IS BS BS BS BUT THEY RAISE PRICES FOR TICKETS WTH TH F????????? • there is something wrong with the Leafs… they are just not playing like they did last year and I am not sure if trading Gardiner is the solution… who would be available as a top six forward?

I think the Leafs are in trouble!

  607. JUST FOUND OUT THAT DAVE NONIS DOESNT WANT TO DO ANY TRADE OR SHAKE UP BECAUSE HE DOESNT WANT TO GIVE PLAYERS AWAY (?) 610. Dave Nonis same old story starting to smell like a big looser you have no team at the end you are the same as the the years past and you talk lots of BS; dont waite till you end up in the bottom of the standings because you are like BURKE AND WILSON AND YOU NEVER LEFT so if you think you have a chance to the play offs give youself a shake you know nothing and dont give a leaf fan any bs thats been watching hickey for 50 years no more excuses from any player or owners give the coach players not has bins or young wanta bees have respct for fans get a f n team that can play not blow me games

  611. Carolina and Calgary offered their 1st round draft picks in this years draft…..
They won’t be offering that now…. The centre the Leafs, so desperately need, was available to them in the top 7 picks in the draft, and is the only way they can obtain a top line centre… No team in their right mind is going to part with this asset..

  612. Nashville wont part with Shea Weber, but i like the outside the box thinking…we would have to give up 2 firsts, a player, and a 2nd or 3rd rounder for that blueline machine!

  613. There is no way we trade Kadri for Gagner. It is not a win – win,it is a downgrade. Kadri is an enigma? Then Gagner is a one game wonder dud. This trade never happens.

    • JM Liles is still a servicable defencemen. At 32 years old can also become a leader on a younger team. Watching Edmonton play last night against the Leafs indicates that the Oilers could use a player like Liles. The big names in Edmonton are all out of play BUT Ryan Jones strikes me as a player who would mesh well with the current Leaf’s roster. Liles has value with the Marlies where there are several young defenders who can benefit from his mentoring. The Leafs have been after Sam Gagner for a couple years, a huge upgrade at centre from anything in the Leafs’ system. Kadri is an inigma and a problem player. A trade of Kadri and Liles for Gagner and Jones is win-win. I suspect that being out of the bright lights of Toronto would benefit Kadri who remains a defensive liability and a selfish player.

  614. Not sure why you think Ottawa will beat the Bruins. They are way too deep a team to come up short in 7 games against a team missing it’s captain. As well I think we will see the Leafs make it to the conference finals this year with their added depth in Bolland and healthy Lupol. Also look to see Kadri stem from his breakout year last year. I see the Penguins beating Chicago in 7 if they can muster a defensive effort.

  615. The habs will finish first in the Atlantic. Boston, Detroit, and Ottawa will follow, Toronto fifth, Tampa Bay, Buffalo, and Florida is how they will finish. You can mark it down. . The habs top three lines are loaded, no team in the Atlantic matches them. Listen folks they did not finish second in the conference with smoke and mirrors. They had the fifth ranked PP in the league. They were forth in goals scored. And now both their offense and defense have improved. Price had an off year, he will be back to elite form. Look for the Gally,s and Eller to have break out years. Briere is very motivated by playing for the team he idolized as a kid, look for him to return to the numbers he had three years ago 34 goals and 68 points, and I predict even better.

  616. Absolutely no way the Habs don’t make the playoffs. They finished 2nd in the East last year and they have improved in the off season. The defense corps is one of the best in the league and they finished 3rd overall in offense for goals scored. What are you smoking?

  617. kadri won’t be traded, but will hold out until the beginning of the season, as per pk subban. but kadri won’t get a big deal, as the leafs have 5 mill in cap room, and have to resign franson as well. i see kadri signed to a 2 yr deal at 2.5 mill, and franson to that same deal. next yr the cap rises, and the yr after that, then the lucrative contract comes up in discussion. but for now, kadri, just sign short term… your pay day will come, my friend.

  618. Capitals will be in first because of the goalie situation with Pittsburgh.
Flyers should be last because of Claude’s new injury.
Montreal should be 2nd, Price will make a comeback and even if he doesn’t they still have a great defense so they will make the Playoffs.
Detroit is in a new Conference, a much harder one at that. Expect them to do well at first, collapse, and make a miracle comeback only to come up short.
    Ottawa should be WC.
Jets should be last as well, they will fall behind the Panthers.
Move Sharks back to WC and move Ducks and Canucks up one.

But addressing YOUR playoffs now; Why does every upset go 7 games? Looking back at the 2012 Champions, the longest round before the SCF’s was 5 games and they were an 8th seed. Penguins will not win, they have no depth on defense and no amount of offensive can make up for that. And do the Blues plan to see Brian Elliot make it through all these rounds? The Sharks don’t really have an identity yet, so expect them to be knocked out by the Blackhawks who I see making the SCF’s again.

Ottawa vs Chicago for the Cup – Chicago in 5.

Sorry to say but Chicago has the best all-around team, and that’s what it takes to win the Stanley Cup. If there was no salary cap, Chicago would be an upcoming dynasty from 2010, but they will win two-three more cups with Toews, Kane, Hossa, Sharp, Keith, Seabrook, and Crawford.

  619. We’re a group of volunteers and starting a new scheme in our community. Your web site provided us with valuable information to work on. You’ve done
an impressive job and our entire community will be thankful to you.

  620. Damn, I did not think the Leafs would buyout Grabo. I guess that means the Leafs will be signing a few free agents if they are freeing up cap space.

  621. Great trade, hopefully this can boost reimer into becoming a better goaltender instead of the other way around where he loses confidence!

  622. Great trade… Reimer is a great backup not a #1 goalie. Leafs had Boston beat if Reimer made the big saves and did not leave HUGE rebounds.

  623. I think it’s also great that the Leafs have “reportedly” been interested in almost every free agent, or possible free agent, it’s hilarious.

  624. Where us your source coming from, I seriously doubt that the Oilers will be willing to move Eberle, I see them making a trade for a different D-man who would not completely ruin there salary cap, I dont think Weber would make them a serious contender, I belive they would need more then just Weber; (Though he is a very good Defenceman obviously.) I see Toronto’s Franson, or ever Carl Gunnarsson as targets, and if they do acquire one of them, they will need to add another steady D-man to seriously compete, but god knows they will have to part ways with one of the young talented forwards to acquire more back end talent.

  625. No way Horton betrays the Bruins and goes to the Leafs unless they refuse to sign him. Him, Lucic and Krejci make a great line

  626. What would it take to get Jumbo Joe out of San Jose?? with Logan Couture signing an extension and Marleau and pavalski both able to play center…. Joe is expendable. Even at 35 he still has some good hockey left in him and would be great on the top line and being a mentor for colbourne. get’er done!!!!

  627. You have a wicked imagination about the value of Dustin Byfuglien…. He was good 2 years ago…. This past season he was awful in the defensive zone…… His offense dropped big time. You would be lucky to get just a 3rd rounder for Buff….. His contract is way to much for how low his production was…..The way he played this past season he may as well have played wing….. He may have had a better +/- thats about it…

  628. *Trade Phaneuf to Edmonton for 7th overall pick (Draft Valeri Nichushkin)
*Trade Kadri, Leafs First and Riely to Nashville for Weber.
*Trade Gunnarson and Fratin to New Jersey for Anton Volchenkov.

  629. ITS GREAT THAT THE LEAFS ARE LOOKING TO Add size and talent but one more hit to the head for Horton and the Leafs will be paying a heafty contract for a player to very inevitably never play hockey again.
    Go Healthy or go home!

  630. Nathan Horton is not past his prime lol

He is 27…. yes he had a bad concussion a few years ago, but I think he would be a great addition to the Leafs.

  631. This would make sense if the price is right but who would be the one let go though? Don’t say Kadri either as he did very very well this season

  632. I don’t think The Leafs will want Luongo as his contract is too expensive. I think they will re-sign Bozak and search around for another centre as well plus they need another Dman to alleviate some work from Phaneuf.

Reimer did very well being in his first play off round and he displays a lot of promise..His glove hand and five hole are all workable to be corrected.

  633. I think this would be a great signing for the Leafs! I say do it, we need some more size on the wing…. though we still do need a big #1 center which is no where to be found?

  634. I still think the Toronto Maple Leafs will trade for a goalie in the summer. Reimer is good but not great, he has a weak glove hand and his five hole is open too much.

Luongo will be a Leaf in the summer… book it!

    • I see no issue with someone just picking favorites. I do not mind this guys picks. Not sure Toronto will beat Boston in the first round though?

  635. If Reimer plays well in the playoffs, I am not sure the Leafs will have interest in Luongo anymore. The only way Luongo gets traded is if the Canucks take salary back.
