Chris Kreider and K'Andre Miller New York Rangers Rumors 2025
Chris Kreider and K'Andre Miller want to stay with the New York Rangers despite offseason trade rumors.

The New York Rangers entered the 2024-25 NHL season as legitimate Stanley Cup contenders. However, a devastating collapse before Christmas derailed their campaign, resulting in missing the playoffs and costing head coach Peter Laviolette his job. Surprisingly, despite the turmoil, GM Chris Drury was awarded a contract extension—a move that left many Rangers fans scratching their heads.

As the Rangers head into what promises to be a pivotal offseason, two big names have found themselves at the center of the New York Rangers rumors mill: Chris Kreider and K’Andre Miller.

Could the New York Rangers Trade Kreider or Miller This Offseason?

Starting with Chris Kreider, the long-time Ranger and heart-and-soul leader has expressed his desire to remain with the only NHL organization he’s ever known. “This is home for me,” Kreider said. “This is the organization that gave me an opportunity to live out my dream. I have so many incredible relationships, spent so much time in this area. Obviously, this is where I want to be.”
Yet, given his age, declining production, and sizeable cap hit, Kreider could be a candidate for either a trade or a buyout if Drury decides a major roster shakeup is needed. My personal insight: a buyout seems extreme unless there’s an internal agreement that his injury recovery won’t be smooth. More likely, if moved, it will be via trade to a playoff contender seeking leadership.

Meanwhile, K’Andre Miller, a pending restricted free agent, has also surfaced in trade rumors. Miller, a dynamic two-way defenseman still on the rise, was cautious when asked about his future. “I love New York,” Miller said. “I wouldn’t want to play anywhere else right now.”
Reading between the lines, Miller’s preference is clear: he wants a contract extension and to stay a Ranger. Given his age and potential, it would be a massive mistake for Drury to move him unless an elite forward comes back in return. My take: it’s more likely Miller re-signs on a bridge deal while Kreider’s future remains murkier.

Final Word: The Rangers must tread carefully this offseason. Blowing up the roster without a clear path forward could set the organization back years. Keeping cornerstone pieces like Miller while managing veterans like Kreider will be critical to getting back into contention.
