Minnesota Wild forward Matt Cooke has been suspended seven games for kneeing Colorado Avalanche defenceman Tyson Barrie during Game 3 of their playoff series.

If the suspension is not fully served in this year’s playoffs, it will continue on next season.

Cooke’s seven game suspension is the second longest suspension for kneeing in NHL history. Brian Marchment received an eight game suspension in 1998.
