NHL rumors have the San Jose Sharks interested in taking on Tyler Myers contract and a 2nd round pick for Kevin Labanc.

The Vancouver Canucks have been trying to trade Tyler Myers for the past two years with no luck because of his $6 million/year salary cap hit. Myers is now on the final year of his contract and teams are showing interest in the big defenseman.

Myers is due a hefty $5 million signing bonus on September 1, 2023. If a team is to make a trade for Myers, the Canucks will probably have to eat half of that signing bonus if traded before September 1.

Vancouver Canucks interested in a Kevin Labanc trade

The Vancouver Canucks are $3.2 million over the salary cap for next year and they are looking to reduce salary. Trading Tyler Myers will help the Canucks lower their cap hit.

NHL trade rumors have the San Jose Sharks interested in taking on Myers cap hit, plus the Canucks second round pick in 2025 (Vancouver traded away the 2024 second round pick) if they take back Kevin Labanc.

The trade would reduce the Canucks salary cap by $1.275 million and get Myers cap hit off the books.

What are NHL fans saying about a Kevin Labanc for Tyler Myers trade?

If I am San Jose, I make this trade ASAP. They can then flip Myers at the NHL trade deadline for a 1st round pick if he stays healthy.

Right handed defenseman are the most sought after in the NHL. If I am the Canucks, I hold onto Tyler Myers until the trade deadline and trade Brock Boeser instead to free up salary cap space.

Myers will be traded after his $5 million bonus is paid in September. No team is making a trade now until that bonus is paid out.
