The K’Andre Miller rumors have officially entered the spotlight, and the New York Rangers are facing a pivotal offseason. While much of the trade chatter has centered on Mika Zibanejad, another major name is now circulating: 25-year-old defenseman K’Andre Miller.

Miller is a restricted free agent with arbitration rights come July 1, putting the Rangers in a tough spot. His 2024-25 season was marked by inconsistency and injury struggles early on. However, when paired with Will Borgen later in the year, his performance began to stabilize. Despite that upward trend, his name is still gaining traction in NHL trade rumors.

Should the Rangers Trade or Re-Sign K’Andre Miller?

As an expert watching Miller’s development since his rookie year, I can say this: he remains New York’s best left-shot defenseman. The Rangers don’t have a comparable player in their system, and trading Miller without a proper replacement could expose their blue line next season.

Finding that replacement won’t be easy. The free-agent market is thin. Veterans like Vladislav Gavrikov or Ivan Provorov are available but would command more money and term, which contradicts the cap-saving motive behind dealing Zibanejad in the first place.

From my perspective, the Rangers should consider signing Miller to a two-year bridge deal, taking him up to UFA eligibility. This keeps costs manageable and gives him time to rebound fully. If he takes that next step, the Rangers will have the option to reward him with a long-term extension. If not, they can walk away without the burden of a hefty contract.

Of course, this all hinges on whether New York is ready to reshape their roster significantly this summer. With Zibanejad’s name already making waves in the rumor mill, Miller could be another domino to fall if GM Chris Drury decides on a more aggressive cap restructure.

Still, my gut says the Rangers hold onto him—unless a team comes calling with a can’t-miss offer that includes a younger left-shot D and draft assets. Miller’s potential is still high, and betting on him now may pay off in the long term.
