Hall of Famer Ted Lindsay Born on July 29

1925: Ted Lindsay, one of the most famous left wings in NHL history, was born in Renfrew, Ontario. Known for his fierce competitiveness, Lindsay became a cornerstone of the Detroit Red Wings’ “Production Line” alongside Sid Abel and Gordie Howe. Despite his modest stature of 5-foot-8, Lindsay earned the nickname “Terrible Ted” for his tenacity and determination on the ice.

Lindsay debuted with the Red Wings at 19 and quickly established himself as a formidable player. He was named an NHL First-Team All-Star for the first time in 1947-48 after leading the league with 33 goals. This achievement marked the beginning of a streak of five consecutive First-Team All-Star selections. In 1949-50, Lindsay won the Art Ross Trophy as the league’s top scorer. His career highlights include four Stanley Cup championships and an induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966. The NHL Players’ Association honored his legacy by renaming their MVP award the Ted Lindsay Award in 2010.

1994: The Los Angeles Kings traded star left wing Luc Robitaille to the Pittsburgh Penguins for forward Rick Tocchet and a second-round pick in the 1995 NHL Draft. Despite the trade, Robitaille returned to the Kings in 1997 and eventually retired with them after a stellar career.
