The Los Angeles Kings have received plenty of interest in goalie Jonathan Bernier over the last two seasons, but they’ve yet to come across a deal they’re willing to accept.
Last season, Bernier asked the team to trade him, wanting the opportunity to become a No. 1 goalie on another team.
With Jonathan Quick locked up long-term in Los Angeles, Bernier will only get the chance to prove his starting capabilities with a different club.
The Kings took a few calls for Bernier before last week’s trade deadline, and one of them appeared to have caught the attention of GM Dean Lombardi.
According to a source close to the situation, an Eastern Conference club showed significant interest in Bernier, and trade discussions are expected to resume in the off-season.
The New Jersey Devils and Toronto Maple Leafs will have significant interest in Bernier this summer.
