NHL insider Craig Button recently fueled the fire, stating on TSN that Gibson has shown he’s still a top-tier goaltender and is reportedly open to a move. Button went as far as to say Gibson is the perfect fit for the Avalanche. He believes that acquiring a goaltender of Gibson’s caliber is the key to turning their season around and becoming Stanley Cup contenders once again.
And frankly, I agree with him.
Gibson has been a workhorse for the Ducks for years, and despite playing behind a struggling team, he’s consistently put up solid numbers. He’s a proven veteran with the ability to steal games, something the Avalanche desperately need.
Of course, acquiring a player like Gibson would come at a cost. The Ducks would likely demand a significant return, potentially including a combination of draft picks, prospects, and roster players.
However, if the Avalanche are serious about contending for the Stanley Cup, they need to make a bold move. And in my opinion, there’s no better option available than John Gibson. He’s the kind of player who can make an immediate impact and provide the stability and confidence they need between the pipes.
This is a situation worth monitoring closely as the calendar turns to 2025. Could we see John Gibson in an Avalanche jersey soon? Only time will tell.
