Evander Kane's future with the Oilers is uncertain as trade rumors swirl. Will the Ducks or Kings land him? Find out the latest here!

The Edmonton Oilers find themselves in a familiar predicament – cap trouble. With offer sheets extended to Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway, the Oilers are once again scrambling to create financial flexibility. The latest rumors from the hockey world suggest that Evander Kane could be the key to unlocking some much-needed Oilers cap space.

Kane’s Future in Edmonton Uncertain

According to the “2 Mutts Podcast,” Evander Kane’s placement on LTIR isn’t part of Kane’s plan for the start of the season. Instead, the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring the veteran winger. However, Kane holds the cards with a no-movement clause, and he’s apparently unwilling to waive it at this point.

This creates a fascinating dilemma for the Oilers. On the one hand, Kane’s $5.125 million cap hit is a significant burden for a team already facing a cap crunch. On the other hand, he’s a proven goal scorer who can provide the offensive punch.

Ducks and Kings Lurk as Potential Suitors

The Ducks and Kings, both looking to make a splash in the Pacific Division, are intriguing potential landing spots for Kane. The Ducks, in particular, have plenty of cap space to absorb Kane’s contract and could use his scoring touch to bolster their offense. The Kings, meanwhile, are always looking to add veteran talent and could see Kane as a piece that could push them into the playoffs.

Oilers’ Tough Choices Ahead

The Oilers will need to make some tough decisions in the coming days. If they match the offer sheets to Broberg and Holloway, they’ll need to find a way to create significant cap space. Trading Kane would be the most obvious solution, but it’s unclear if they can find a willing trade partner without retaining some of his salary.

Alternatively, the Oilers could try to convince Kane to waive his no-movement clause. This would give them more flexibility in trade negotiations, but it’s a risky proposition. If Kane refuses, the Oilers will be stuck with his contract and will have to find other ways to create cap space.

My Take: A Kane Trade is Inevitable

As someone who’s closely followed the Oilers for years, I believe a Kane trade is inevitable. The Oilers simply can’t afford to keep him on the roster with their current cap situation. While Kane’s scoring ability is undeniable, his contract is a luxury the Oilers can no longer afford.

I expect the Oilers to ramp up trade talks in the coming days. The Ducks and Kings are the most likely destinations, but don’t be surprised if other teams enter the mix. The Oilers will need to be creative to get a deal done, but I believe they’ll find a way to move Kane before the start of the season.
