NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has linked Dylan Cozens to the Detroit Red Wings. Explore the potential trade rumors and what it could mean for the Red Wings and Sabres.

The NHL rumor mill is churning, and this time, it’s Buffalo Sabres‘ young center Dylan Cozens generating buzz. While no official reports have surfaced, whispers around the league suggest the Detroit Red Wings have a keen interest in acquiring the talented forward.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman recently fueled these rumors on Sportsnet’s Saturday Headlines. He noted that the Red Wings and Sabres “continue to scout each other,” hinting at potential trade talks. Friedman added, “they looked at something before the break,” indicating that discussions may have already begun.

Red Wings and Sabres Scouting Each Other, Cozens a Potential Target?

Cozens, a former seventh-overall pick, possesses a unique blend of size, skill, and scoring ability. He’s precisely the type of player who could thrive in Detroit’s system. It’s believed that Cozens would slot into the Red Wings’ second line, potentially playing alongside dynamic wingers Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane. This combination would provide Detroit with a formidable offensive threat and significantly bolster their scoring depth.

Of course, the Red Wings aren’t the only team interested in Cozens. The Calgary Flames and Nashville Predators have also been linked to the young center. If the Sabres are serious about moving Cozens, they’ll likely engage in a bidding war, driving up the asking price.

What would Buffalo seek in return for Cozens? That remains unclear. However, it’s safe to assume they’d demand a significant package, potentially including a young roster player, a high draft pick, or a combination of both.

The Red Wings are in an interesting position. They’re on the cusp of playoff contention but need an extra push to become a legitimate contender. Acquiring a player like Cozens could be that missing piece. However, Steve Yzerman, the Red Wings’ General Manager, is known for his shrewd negotiating and won’t overpay for any player.

This situation is fluid, and things could change quickly. Stay tuned for further updates as the trade deadline approaches.
