Will the Pittsburgh Penguins look at trading Sidney Crosby this year? It could happen if they are out of playoff contention by Christmas.

Last season NHL Trade rumors were floating around that the Colorado Avalanche had some interest in making a trade for Sidney Crosby.

Elliotte Friedman reported that Sidney Crosby could end up playing with Nathan MacKinnon in Colorado.

NHL Analyst Chris Johnston was on TSN Radio and he was reporting if the Penguins start the season slowly they could look at trading one of the big three in Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang or Crosby.

Malkin and Letang are due for new contracts next season and would be the likely 2022 NHL trade deadline candidates. With the Avalanche as Stanley Cup favorites, adding Crosby would solidify their lineup and make them a very tough out in the playoffs.

Not sure the Avalanche have the assets to make a trade for Crosby but it would start with Bowen Byram and a first round pick.

If the Penguins are comfortably in a playoff position by Christmas then the above will not matter, but most NHL Analysts feel this could be the year the Pens miss the playoffs. It would be the first time in 15 years.

  1. They’re never going to get rid of Crosby in a trade! The city would completely abandon the team. Completely 100 % irrelevant and really just a genuinely stupid article…
