Hockey goalie fights do not happen often but when they do they are so joyous to watch.
Unlike forward and defenseman, goalies are not typically trained in fighting techniques and can easily injure themselves or their opponent during a physical altercation. For this reason, goalie fights are not encouraged by the league and can result in fines and suspensions.
Why are goalie fights not common
The main reason why goalie fights are not common is that goalies are not supposed to leave their designated areas on the ice, known as the crease, except in certain circumstances. Therefore, for goalies to fight, they must first leave their crease and travel to the other end of the ice, which is not typically allowed.
