Ethan Bear’s name was in trade chatter this offseason but nothing materialized. He was connected to the Vancouver Canucks and Nils Höglander. With the way to the Canucks have started the season, they may revisit this trade to shake things up?

The asking price for Bear in the summer was a top prospect or draft pick.

What is the latest on an Ethan Bear trade?

Ethan Bear just wants to play and he would welcome a trade. Elliotte Friedman was on Hockey Night in Canada’s 32 Thoughts segment and reports Carolina Hurricanes management have told other teams they will not keep 50% of Ethan Bear’s salary cap hit to facilitate a trade.

Friedman went on to say in his piece, the the Canes have been close a couple of times to trading Bear, with the Canucks being one of those teams. Friedman feels a trade will happen soon as there are teams that need defensive help.

Three options for Ethan Bear

The most likely option is he will be traded. It could happen soon, but the Hurricanes could also be patient and wait for the right price.

The second option is an injury will happen to one of the Carolina Hurricanes defenseman and he will be inserted into the lineup.

The third option is the Hurricanes decide to put Bear on waivers and loose him for nothing. Not what Canes management wants but it is a possible scenario.

How much does Ethan Bear make?

Ethan Bear, 25, has a $2,200,000 Carolina Hurricanes salary cap hit and will still be a restricted free agent when his contract expires this summer.

He was drafted 124th overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 5th round of the 2015 NHL entry draft. Currently over a career that spans 4 seasons, he has a total 47 points in 190 games played, and 0 playoffs points in 8 games played.
