Insider buzz suggests Capitals might target Noah Hanifin. Would he be the missing piece for Washington's blue line?

Elliotte Friedman’s recent “32 Thoughts Podcast” dropped a tantalizing hint – the Washington Capitals may be interested in Calgary Flames defenseman Noah Hanifin.

Friedman believes the Capitals are looking to shake things up without committing to a complete rebuild. A seasoned player like Hanifin could fit that strategy perfectly.

Could Noah Hanifin Bolster the Capitals’ Defense?

Hanifin, 27, is a reliable top-four defenseman with a mix of defensive responsibility and offensive upside. He’s logged substantial minutes on the Flames’ blue line and has shown flashes of the potential that made him a 5th overall pick back in 2015. While not a superstar, he offers stability and consistency that could be valuable additions to a Capitals team in transition.

Washington needs to shore up their defense if they hope to return to contending status. Hanifin could provide a boost and wouldn’t necessarily break the bank compared to other top-tier defensemen on the market. It will be interesting to see if the Capitals make a serious push, and if so, what the Flames might demand in return.
