The Vancouver Canucks have signed forward Dakota Joshua to a four-year contract extension, keeping the 28-year-old in Vancouver after a breakout season.

The Vancouver Canucks have solidified their forward corps by signing power forward Dakota Joshua to a four-year contract extension worth $13 million. The deal, which carries an annual average value (AAV) of $3.25 million, keeps the emerging star in Vancouver through the 2027-28 NHL season.

Joshua, 28, enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2023-24, registering 18 goals and 32 points in 63 regular-season games. His contributions extended into the postseason, where he tallied four goals and eight points in 13 playoff contests before the Canucks were ousted by the Edmonton Oilers in the second round.

This signing comes on the heels of the Canucks’ decision to trade winger Ilya Mikheyev earlier this week, a move aimed at freeing up salary cap space to accommodate Joshua’s extension. The 6’3″, 206-pound forward’s blend of size, skill, and physicality has made him a valuable asset to the team, and the Canucks clearly see him as a key piece of their future.

“Dakota has shown tremendous growth and potential during his time with the Canucks,” said Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin. “His combination of offensive ability and physical presence makes him a valuable contributor to our team. We are excited to see him continue to develop and contribute to our success in the years to come.”
