The Calgary Flames are open for business. GM Craig Conroy recently stated he’s looking to acquire a center with term, and all eyes are now on the Ottawa Senators. Could a deal be brewing between these two Canadian clubs?
The Senators entered the season with playoff aspirations, but currently find themselves seventh in the Atlantic Division. If their fortunes don’t change soon, major changes could be afoot.
Rasmus Andersson for Shane Pinto: A Trade That Makes Sense?
Rumors are swirling that the Senators are interested in bolstering their blue line with Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson. In exchange, the Flames would receive young center Shane Pinto.
This potential trade has the makings of a win-win situation. Pinto, 24, is a promising young center with another year remaining on his contract at a reasonable $3.75 million cap hit. He fits the Flames’ needs perfectly: young, affordable, and with term remaining. He’ll still be an RFA when his current deal expires in 2026, giving Calgary cost certainty and team control.
For the Senators, acquiring Andersson would be a significant upgrade on the right side of their defense. The 28-year-old is a solid two-way defenseman signed through 2026. He would immediately slot into the Senators’ top pairing alongside rising star Jake Sanderson.
While both Andersson and Pinto have had solid starts to the season, this trade could address each team’s needs. The Flames gain a much-needed center with potential, while the Senators acquire a top-pairing defenseman to solidify their blue line.
It’s important to remember that these are just rumors at this point. However, where there’s smoke, there’s often fire. This potential trade is definitely one to keep an eye on as the NHL season progresses.

Crazy, not even close, Anderson has way more vaule the Pinto. If conroy did this I would be very disapointed.
I agree – Ottawa would need to add something significant to make this a fair trade. This author is awful at this trade proposal stuff. He has no clue.
