Brock Boeser skating in a Vancouver Canucks jersey during the 2024-25 NHL season
Brock Boeser rumors heat up as the Vancouver Canucks explore a possible reunion. Will Boeser wear a Canucks jersey next season or test free agency?

Brock Boeser’s name has been swirling in NHL rumor mills for months, but the narrative may not be as set in stone as it once seemed. Since Christmas of last season, it’s been widely expected that the 28-year-old winger would test free agency and part ways with the Vancouver Canucks. But recent developments suggest there might still be a flicker of hope for a Boeser-Canucks reunion.

Canucks insider Patrick Johnston of The Province reports that management hasn’t closed the door on re-signing Boeser. General manager Patrik Allvin revealed during a Q&A with season-ticket holders that the organization plans to explore whether the Minnesota native is open to returning. While this is far from a commitment, it’s a sign that Vancouver values Boeser’s contributions—on and off the ice.

That said, Johnston remains skeptical. Tensions reportedly arose around the NHL trade deadline when Boeser’s camp was dissatisfied with how Allvin portrayed the winger’s market value. After tallying 40 goals two seasons ago and 25 last season, Boeser has positioned himself for a major payday—one he may not find in Vancouver unless management shifts its stance on term.

Will Contract Term Be the Deal-Breaker?

It appears the primary sticking point in negotiations is term. Boeser is believed to be seeking a long-term deal, ideally in the 7–8-year range. The Canucks, on the other hand, are rumored to prefer something under five years. With the NHL salary cap rising, Boeser’s market value is peaking, and teams like the Minnesota Wild—his hometown club—and Carolina Hurricanes, who have had past interest, could be willing to offer both the money and the term.

My Take: While Boeser has voiced his love for Vancouver and its fanbase, the odds remain slim that he’ll stay. The tension during trade talks, combined with differing contract expectations, makes a reunion unlikely. However, in the NHL, bridges can be rebuilt quickly—especially if Boeser doesn’t find the deal he wants elsewhere. Still, expect him to hit the open market and sign with a contender or hometown favorite.
