Trent Frederic in action for the Boston Bruins
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reports the Boston Bruins are fielding calls on Trent Frederic.

The Boston Bruins are off to a solid start this season, but that doesn’t mean General Manager Don Sweeney is sitting still. One name that has surfaced in recent NHL trade rumors is Trent Frederic. Known for his physicality and agitating style, Frederic has become a fan favorite in Boston, but his future with the team appears uncertain.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman recently confirmed on Sportsnet’s “Saturday Headlines” segment that the Bruins are receiving considerable interest in the 26-year-old winger. “The Bruins are getting a lot of calls, ‘What are you thinking here? Will you keep him? Will he be available?’ He’s a guy that’s definitely got a lot of interest,” Friedman noted.

Why would the Boston Bruins Trade Trent Frederic?

This raises the question: why would the Bruins consider moving Frederic? Several factors could be at play.

Firstly, Frederic is in the final year of a two-year, $4.6 million contract. He’s set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. With other key players needing new contracts, the Bruins may be hesitant to commit significant cap space to Frederic, especially with promising young forwards like Fabian Lysell and Mason Lohrei pushing for roster spots.

Secondly, Frederic’s role on the team has somewhat diminished this season. While he brings an element of grit and energy, his offensive production has been inconsistent. He plays on the third line with 11 points in 32 games and a plus/minus rating of -13.

So, where could Frederic land? Teams looking for a physical presence and some scoring punch may be interested. The Calgary Flames, who have struggled to find consistent scoring depth, could be a potential fit. The Buffalo Sabres, another team in need of a spark, might also be in the mix.

It’s important to remember that these are just rumors at this point. The Bruins may ultimately decide to keep Frederic, especially if they believe he can contribute to a deep playoff run. However, with the Christmas roster freeze approaching on December 20th, a decision will need to be made soon.

One thing is for sure: these next few days will be interesting for Bruins fans as the NHL trade rumor mill continues to churn.
