The Washington Capitals had the Florida Panthers on the ropes in the first round of the NHL Playoffs but could not finish out some games and it cost them the series. The Caps will now look at the offseason to improve the team.
Sammi Silber of Washington Hockey Now reports the Capitals should go all-in for one last shot at a Stanley Cup run. There is still plenty of potential with the current group of forwards even though they are aging.
Silber feels the Capitals should target unrestricted free agents of Nazem Kadri, Darcy Kuemper or Filip Forsberg.
The Capitals need an experienced starting netminder and a reliable top-6 forward if they want to have another Stanley Cup run.
The problem the Capitals will have like many other teams this offseason is can they afford a Forsberg or Kadri contract as they will be seeking a deal in the range of $8 million per year.
Washington should keep Kuemper’s name out their mouth! He is going to Jersey!
