Vladimir Tarasenko celebrates in Florida Panthers jersey
Panthers acquire star winger Vladimir Tarasenko from Senators in deadline shakeup. Get the latest trade analysis and impact on Florida's playoff push.

The Florida Panthers have made a significant move ahead of the NHL trade deadline, acquiring star winger Vladimir Tarasenko from the Ottawa Senators. In exchange, the Senators receive a conditional 2024 fourth-round draft pick and Florida’s 2025 third-round pick. The fourth-rounder could become a third in 2026 if the Panthers win the Stanley Cup.

Tarasenko, a pending unrestricted free agent, was carrying a $5 million cap hit. The Senators retained 50% of that salary to facilitate the deal. The 32-year-old brings a wealth of scoring prowess to the Panthers, having netted 17 goals and 41 points in 57 games for the Senators this season.

Tarasenko Trade Boosts Panthers’ Playoff Hopes

This trade fills a crucial need for the Panthers, who have been searching for a top-line scoring threat. Tarasenko, a former 40-goal scorer and perennial All-Star, is expected to immediately slot into Florida’s top six and potentially play alongside superstar center Aleksander Barkov.

The Panthers are making a bold move to upgrade an already potent offense as they gear up for a deep playoff run. Tarasenko’s veteran presence and Stanley Cup championship experience (with the St. Louis Blues in 2019) will be invaluable as Florida looks to make noise in the Eastern Conference.
