Trevor Zegras celebrates in a Philadelphia Flyers jersey ahead of his 2026-27 fantasy hockey season projection
Trevor Zegras enters the 2026-27 NHL season as a potential fantasy hockey breakout for the Philadelphia Flyers, with a projected 31 goals, 47 assists and 78 points.

Trevor Zegras finally delivered the breakout season fantasy hockey managers had been waiting for. Now the bigger question is whether he can take another significant step with the Philadelphia Flyers in 2026-27.

After producing 26 goals and 41 assists for 67 points in 81 games last season, my projection has Zegras climbing to 31 goals, 47 assists and 78 points in 82 games this season.

That would put him within striking distance of his first 80-point NHL campaign.

And I don’t think that projection is overly aggressive.

Philadelphia has given Zegras something he didn’t always have earlier in his career: a defined offensive role, talented young linemates and organizational commitment. NHL.com currently projects a Flyers top line featuring Tyson Foerster, Trevor Zegras and Porter Martone, while Philadelphia signed Zegras to a four-year, $36.5 million contract this summer.

That combination has my attention heading into fantasy hockey draft season.

Trevor Zegras Fantasy Hockey Projection for the 2026-27 NHL Season

My official Trevor Zegras fantasy hockey projection for 2026-27 is:

31 goals + 47 assists = 78 points in 82 games

That’s an increase of 11 points from last season, or roughly 16 percent.

The biggest reason I’m willing to project that jump is opportunity.

Zegras set career highs last season with 26 goals and 67 points, but the power-play numbers are particularly interesting. He scored 10 power-play goals and recorded 23 power-play points, proving he can already produce at a high level with the man advantage.

If Philadelphia deploys the power-play configuration I have outlined — Zegras, Foerster, Martone, Travis Konecny and Jamie Drysdale, I see legitimate potential for Zegras to approach 28 to 30 power-play points.

Martone could be especially important. NHL.com currently expects the 19-year-old to play on Philadelphia’s top line and power play after producing 10 points in his nine-game NHL regular-season sample last year.

For Zegras, that’s another high-end finishing option to find with the puck.

Why Trevor Zegras Could Push Toward 80 Points

What I like most about Zegras this season isn’t simply his talent. We’ve known about the hands, creativity and vision for years.

It’s the environment around him.

Philadelphia increasingly used Zegras at center during the second half of last season, and that gives him considerably more control over the Flyers’ offense. Zegras himself said this summer, “I feel pretty comfortable in both spots,” referring to center and wing.

From a fantasy perspective, I’d prefer to see him remain in the middle.

Center allows Zegras to touch the puck more frequently through the neutral zone, dictate entries and become the primary distributor for Foerster and Martone. Those two players could also help drive Zegras’ assist total beyond the 41 he recorded last season.

Foerster gives Philadelphia a proven shooting threat. Martone brings another layer of skill, size and finishing ability. If that trio sticks together, Zegras doesn’t necessarily need a dramatic change in his individual shooting talent to become a 75-to-80-point player.

He simply needs more of his passes to turn into goals.

Trevor Zegras’ Contract Shows How Much Philadelphia Is Betting on Him

There is another useful piece of context for fantasy managers: Philadelphia didn’t pay Zegras like a complementary player.

The Flyers signed him for four years at a $9.125 million annual cap hit, running through 2029-30. The NHL’s 2026-27 upper salary-cap limit is $104 million, meaning Zegras consumes approximately 8.77 percent of Philadelphia’s available team cap ceiling.

At my projected 78 points, that works out to roughly 8.55 projected points for every $1 million of cap hit, or about $117,000 of cap hit per projected point.

Those numbers aren’t fantasy categories, obviously. But they tell us something important: Philadelphia has made a significant financial commitment to Zegras being one of its primary offensive players.

That generally means opportunities will be there.

My Fantasy Hockey Take on Trevor Zegras

I’m targeting Zegras in 2026-27 fantasy drafts, particularly if his average draft position doesn’t fully price in his power-play ceiling.

My base expectation is 31 goals, 47 assists and 78 points.

I would put his reasonable floor around 68-70 points, assuming health, while I believe his ceiling can stretch into the 82-85 point range if Philadelphia’s first power-play unit becomes significantly more dangerous.

There is risk. Martone remains young, line combinations can change, and an elevated fantasy price can quickly erase the value in any breakout pick.

But this is precisely the type of situation I look for in fantasy hockey: a talented player entering his prime, coming off a career season, locked into a major contract and surrounded by an improving offensive supporting cast.

Zegras is no longer simply a speculative “breakout candidate.”

For 2026-27, he should be drafted like one of the Philadelphia Flyers’ primary fantasy assets.
