The Senators have been linked to a number of netminders this offseason, including Jacob Markstrom, but have yet to solidify their goaltending tandem.
Senators Seek Vezina Trophy Winner to Solidify Goaltending
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports that sources close to the situation claim the Senators have “circled back” to Ullmark after an unsuccessful attempt to acquire him before the March trade deadline. The talks between the two clubs have reportedly intensified in recent days, with the Senators eager to address their goaltending concerns before the start of the 2024-25 season.
The Bruins, on the other hand, are facing a cap crunch and may be willing to part ways with Ullmark for the right price. They are reportedly not interested in taking on Joonas Korpisalo’s contract in return, but may be open to acquiring Anton Forsberg and his more manageable $2.75 million cap hit.
A league executive suggested to Garrioch that the Senators could be looking at a package that includes their 2024 first-round pick and defenseman Jakob Chychrun to land Ullmark. However, this will likely depend on whether or not the Senators are on Ullmark’s no-trade list.
Ullmark’s addition would be a significant boost to the Senators, who have struggled to find consistency in net. His Vezina Trophy-winning pedigree and ability to steal games would be a welcome asset for a team looking to make a playoff push. The Bruins, meanwhile, could use the assets acquired in the trade to address other needs on their roster.
