The Hockey News: The LA Kings would like to trade forward Mike Richards. The Kings could be calling around the league to teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets to test Richards’ trade value, but also believes they’ll have to retain part of his salary in a deal. The issue with Richards is uncertainty over the salary cap for 2015-16 could make teams leery of taking on a fading star with five years left on his contract.
Elliotte Friedman appeared on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 on Tuesday afternoon and, per NicholsOnHockey.com, said that Tampa Bay Lightning GM Steve Yzerman told him that the organization would like to sign Steven Stamkos to a contract extension by July.
Freidman went on to say,
“But I do believe that they are going to try Steven Stamkos and get it done on July 1 this year. They don’t want another summer of crazy Toronto rumors. And I think they’re going to work toward trying to get it done.”
