The Detroit Red Wings have been one of the NHL’s most surprising teams this season. After a coaching change brought in veteran bench boss Todd McLellan, the Wings have soared, winning six straight and clawing their way back into the playoff race. With a current record of 19-18-4, they sit just outside of a Wild Card spot. But could General Manager Steve Yzerman have his eyes on a major move to solidify their playoff push?
NHL rumors are swirling that the Vancouver Canucks are open to trading both Elias Pettersson and JT Miller. The latest buzz has the Red Wings interested in acquiring the latter.
Red Wings and Canucks Speculated J.T. Miller Trade
The speculated trade proposal:
- Detroit Red Wings receive: J.T. Miller and Nils Höglander
- Vancouver Canucks receive: William Wallinder, J.T. Compher, and Nate Danielson
This potential trade has ignited a firestorm of debate among Red Wings faithful.
What are NHL fans saying about the speculated Miller trade?
- “Miller would be a great add, but his contract and age will be a problem in a few years. I’d rather the Red Wings go after Elias Pettersson.”
- “I see nothing wrong with the trade. Fair deal for both sides and would help the Red Wings be a playoff team.”
- “Honestly, I really don’t see a fit for Miller with where we are right now. Let’s continue the rebuild and see how things go for the rest of the season.”
My Take:
While Miller undoubtedly brings experience, scoring prowess, and a Stanley Cup Final appearance to the table, his age and hefty contract raise concerns. He’s 30 years old and carries a cap hit of $8 million for the next five seasons. For a team seemingly still a year or two away from true contention, that’s a significant commitment.
However, Yzerman has proven time and time again that he’s not afraid to make some bold moves. Adding a player of Miller’s caliber could be the push needed to get Detroit over the hump and back into the playoffs. The inclusion of Höglander, a young winger with potential, adds another layer of intrigue to this potential deal.
It’s a risky move, but one that could pay huge dividends if Miller can continue his strong play in Hockeytown.

Lol, no wonder Vancouver won’t complete that deal. Detroit wants a stud in return for nothing. Danielson is unproven, Compher is a plug and Wallinder, another unproven. These so called insiders must think Canucks are giving players away for free. What a joke.
Bad bad trade for Detroit. Hard pass.
