Could Pierre Engvall be on the move again? Flyers insider Jonathan Bailey suggests the Islanders forward could be a good fit in Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Flyers are a team in transition, looking for the right pieces to build a competitive roster. Could New York Islanders forward Pierre Engvall be one of those pieces? That’s the speculation from Flyers insider Jonathan Bailey, who sees potential in the 6’5″ Swedish winger.

Engvall, 28, recently cleared waivers and was assigned to the Islanders’ AHL affiliate in Bridgeport. This surprising move came despite Engvall being in just the second year of a seven-year, $21 million contract. His inconsistent play and a logjam at the forward position on the Islanders led to his demotion.

Flyers Insider Suggests Engvall as Potential Trade Target

So, why would the Flyers be interested? Bailey believes that Flyers head coach John Tortorella, known for his demanding style and ability to get the most out of his players, could be the key to unlocking Engvall’s full potential.

Engvall possesses a unique combination of size, speed, and puck-possession skills that are intriguing. He’s shown flashes of offensive ability throughout his career, but hasn’t consistently put it all together. Perhaps a change of scenery and a coach like Tortorella is exactly what he needs.

Of course, the Flyers would need to consider the financial implications of acquiring Engvall. His $3 million cap hit is significant, and they would need to ensure they have the cap space to accommodate him. However, if the Islanders are truly motivated to move him, perhaps they would be willing to retain some salary or take on a contract in return.

It’s still early in the season, and it remains to be seen if the Flyers will actively pursue a trade for Engvall. However, the possibility is certainly an interesting one, and it’s a situation worth monitoring for Flyers fans.

  1. Stop with the silliness already. Why would any team in a rebuild take on a 28 year old player with that length of a contract. Bailey needs to pursue another endeavor as this one is over his head.
