NHL Rumors are swirling that the Pittsburgh Penguins have their sights set on the Montreal Canadiens. TSN’s Darren Dreger recently revealed the Penguins have been heavily scouting the Habs, suggesting a potential trade could be on the horizon.
This news has ignited speculation among fans and analysts alike, with everyone eager to decipher which players might be involved in such a deal.
Potential Trade Targets for the Montreal Canadiens and Pittsburgh Penguins
What the Penguins Could Offer:
Pittsburgh has several expiring contracts that the Canadiens would be willing to take on, including defenseman Marcus Pettersson and forwards Drew O’Connor, Cody Glass, Anthony Beauvillier, Matt Nieto, and Jesse Puljujarvi. “These players aren’t going to hurt you for the rest of the year. Maybe you get a sweetener where it makes some sense“, stated Dreger.
Who Could the Canadiens Trade?
On the Canadiens’ side, young defensemen Justin Barron and Jayden Struble are potential targets for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Barron, a former first-round pick, has shown flashes of his offensive potential in the AHL, while Struble brings a physical edge and solid defensive play. Another intriguing possibility is Kirby Dach. Dach, still just 23, hasn’t quite lived up to expectations in Montreal. A change of scenery and a chance to play with skilled veterans in Pittsburgh could reignite his development.
My Take:
This potential trade has all the makings of a win-win situation. The Canadiens could acquire draft assets as a sweetener to take on a contract that aligns with their long-term vision, while the Penguins could gain a young player with the potential to make an immediate impact. Keep a close eye on this developing situation, as it could have significant implications for both teams as the Christmas trade free approaches.
