1970: Gordie Howe becomes the first player in NHL history to reach 1,000 for his career.

1952: Maurice Richard of the Montreal Canadiens scores the 323rd and 324th goals of his NHL career to tie the all-time goal-scoring record held by Nels Stewart. Richard also has two assists in Montreal’s 7-5 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs at Maple Leaf Gardens.

1969: Jean Beliveau becomes the first player in the history of the Canadiens to play 1,000 NHL games when he appears in a 4-1 loss to the North Stars at Met Center.

1970: Longtime Detroit Red Wings linemates Gordie Howe and Alex Delvecchio each make history in a 5-3 victory against the Boston Bruins at Olympia Stadium.

Playing on the 23rd anniversary of the first time he wore No. 9, Howe has two assists to become the first player in NHL history to reach 1,000 for his career. Delvecchio scores twice, and his third-period goal (assisted by Howe) is the 400th of his NHL career, He joins Howe, Maurice RichardBobby Hull and Jean Beliveau as the only players (at the time) to score 400 NHL goals.

2001: Theo Fleury of the New York Rangers joins the NHL’s 1,000-point club when he has two assists in a 4-2 victory against the Dallas Stars at Madison Square Garden. The assists come on goals by Mike York; the second one starts a burst of three goals in less than five minutes late in the second period by the Rangers.

2003: Pittsburgh’s Mario Lemieux becomes the sixth player in NHL history to reach 1,700 career points with an assist in a 4-4 tie against the visiting New York Islanders. Lemieux becomes the second-fastest player to reach 1,700 points; only Wayne Gretzky does it faster.

2009: Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals ties the NHL record for most multiple-goal games by a player in the month of October. Ovechkin has his sixth two-goal game of the month in a 4-3 victory against the Atlanta Thrashers at Philips Arena.

2011: At age 42, Dwayne Roloson makes 28 saves for the 29th shutout of his NHL career, helping the Tampa Bay Lightning defeat the visiting Winnipeg Jets 1-0. The victory gives Roloson a 10-0-0 record against the Atlanta/Winnipeg franchise.
