The Devils want a top-tier goalie. Could they snag Markstrom, Saros, or Ullmark? Get the latest trade buzz here.

The New Jersey Devils entered this season with high hopes but have fallen short of playoff contention due in large part to inconsistent goaltending. According to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, the Devils are determined to address this problem with an aggressive move for a new number-one goalie in the offseason.

LeBrun’s sources indicate the Devils will once again make a play for Jacob Markstrom of the Calgary Flames as well as Juuse Saros of the Nashville Predators. Acquiring one of these goalies could allow them to create a dominant 1A-1B tandem with Jake Allen, who they recently brought in from Montreal.

Devils Ready to Chase a Number One Goaltender

Saros presents a particularly interesting situation. The 28-year-old is signed through next season but becomes an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2025. If the Predators don’t see a long-term future with Saros, the Devils could swoop in with an enticing trade offer.

Another name to watch is Linus Ullmark of the Boston Bruins. The Bruins are facing cap management issues and might have to move the star goalie. Ullmark could be a more affordable trade target for the Devils.

It’s clear New Jersey is not messing around. They intend to find the missing piece that could propel them into serious Stanley Cup contention next season.
