Blue Jackets interested in Matt Duchene

The Athletic: Aaron Portzline reports the Columbus Blue Jackets have an offer on the table for Matt Duchene, “one that almost certainly includes defenseman Ryan Murray.” However, GM Joe Sakic’s asking price remains very steep. Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen wouldn’t directly address the Duchene rumors but said it’s never too late to make a move. Portzline believes the Avs and Jackets are perfect trade partners.

The Penguins seek a 3rd-line center

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford said his search for a third-line center could stretch into training camp and possibly even the upcoming season. Short-term options in lieu of a trade include moving Jake Guentzel to center or employing Scott Wilson in that role.

Rutherford also said he hasn’t seen any change yet in the trade market but that could improve during training camp. He said there were “a couple of guys” he could acquire “right now” but prefers to wait and see how things shake out.

Free Agent Alex Kerfoot rumors

Scott Powers of The Athletic Chicago: Sources saying that as of yesterday afternoon the Chicago Blackhawks hadn’t reached out to Alex Kerfoot’s camp. There had been no indication that the Blackhawks would be interested in Kerfoot.

Rick Dhaliwal: Was told yesterday that Vancouver Canucks had called Kerfoot’s agent and had a meeting scheduled for yesterday.

Rick Dhaliwal: The Canucks aren’t the only team interested in Kerfoot as several teams called his agent.
