Changes will be coming to the Detroit Red Wings defence

The Detroit News: Now that GM Steve Yzerman has had time to look over the Detroit Red Wings roster, expect some changes to be made this season.

No position group on the Wings is likely to undergo as much change as the defense, where contracts, age and maturation of some recent draft picks all will conspire to force a new look.

The Wings are waiting to see what veteran Niklas Kronwall will do.

Kronwall, 38, hasn’t yet told the Wings  whether he will retire or play one more season.

Trevor Daley, Jonathan Ericsson and Mike Green are all in the final year of their contracts.

None of the three veterans appear to have a future with the organization, and all three — after dealing with injuries last season — are likely to be moved at the 2020 NHL trade deadline if the Wings are out of playoff contention.

For the Wings to trade them, they’ll have to remain healthy.

Will the Boston Bruins trade Torey Krug?

NBC Sports: Joe Haggerty reports Torey Krug is in the prime of his career and now might be the time to trade him and get the most value back. The Boston Bruins will be very tight against the salary cap next season once RFAs Charlie McAvoy and Brandon Carlo are signed.

The Bruins will be hard-pressed to pay Krug market value after next season once they sign RFAs Charlie McAvoy and Brandon Carlo, and at some point dealing him for value would make perfect business sense for the Black and Gold.

Dealing Krug at this point in time coming off a Stanley Cup Final berth and his epic postseason performance would create a giant roster hole for the Bruins that guys like McAvoy and Matt Grzelcyk don’t appear poised to replace just yet.

Like many other teams, the Bruins will have a tough choice to make with Krug, trade him and get good value back or keep him for another Stanley Cup run and potentially lose him for nothing.
