The Montreal Canadiens will be looking to make some trades

Latest Montreal Canadiens trade rumors

The Fourth Period: Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin and his staff are exploring the marketplace for upgrades, but are believed to be preparing for potential moves later in the season. The Habs would like to add a top-six forward, possibly a center, and a top-four defenseman before the March 1 NHL trade deadline, and have been linked to such players as Arizona Coyotes forward Martin Hanzal, Winnipeg Jets forward Alexander Burmistrov and Anaheim Ducks blueliner Cam Fowler in the past.

Blackhawks need to clear cap space, who will be traded?

Chicago Tribune: With Artemi Panarin’s new two-year, $12-million contract extension, it will force the cap-strapped Chicago Blackhawks to shed some salary. Center Marcus Kruger ($3.1 million) could become a trade candidate or the Hawks could loose him to the NHL Expansion draft. Assuming Kruger gets selected in the expansion draft, trading Niklas Hjalmarsson would free up over $7 million in cap room for the Blackhawks (includes Kruger being plucked away in the expansion draft), giving them more room to flesh out the remainder of their roster for next season and still remain cap compliant.

Will the Blues make a trade for Marc-Andre Fleury?

NBCSN: Darren Dreger had a recent appearance on NBCSN in which he suggests the St. Louis Blues as a possible destination for Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. Dreger suggests the Blues might look at acquiring Fleury if they’re among the Stanley Cup contenders or if their goaltending continues to struggle.
