Moritz Seider may have officially crossed into a different tier of fantasy hockey defenseman.
After producing 10 goals and 50 assists for 60 points in 82 games last season, the Detroit Red Wings blueliner enters 2026-27 with something fantasy managers love: enormous ice time, increasing offensive responsibility and an improved group of skilled players surrounding him. Seider averaged a staggering 25:40 per game in 2025-26, giving him the kind of dependable opportunity that makes projecting another strong season much easier.
My fantasy hockey projection has Seider taking another step, but I’m not expecting an unrealistic explosion into the 80-point range.
My 2026-27 Moritz Seider projection: 12 goals, 54 assists and 66 points in 82 games.
That would give Seider a second consecutive 60-point campaign while pushing his scoring rate from roughly 0.73 points per game to 0.80 points per game. More importantly, his combination of offense, shot volume and heavy deployment could make Seider even more valuable in multi-category fantasy hockey formats.
Why Moritz Seider Could Push Beyond 60 Points for the Detroit Red Wings
The biggest reason I am comfortable projecting another increase is opportunity.
Seider is already being deployed like a franchise defenseman. When you’re playing more than 25 minutes on an average night, you’re going to have opportunities to generate points simply because you’re constantly on the ice with your team’s best offensive players. But Seider is no longer merely accumulating points because of volume. His offensive game has matured enough that Detroit can legitimately run offense through him.
The power play is where his fantasy ceiling becomes especially interesting.
Detroit has Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat returning as major offensive weapons, while veteran winger Viktor Arvidsson was added on a two-year contract this summer.
If the Red Wings deploy Seider on a power-play group featuring Larkin, Raymond, DeBrincat and Arvidsson, there should be plenty of secondary-assist opportunities from the point along with chances for Seider to use his shot through traffic. We’ve already seen Seider contribute directly to Detroit’s power-play scoring; for example, he picked up assists alongside Raymond on DeBrincat power-play goals during the 2025-26 season.
Moritz Seider 2026-27 Fantasy Hockey Projection
My projection model starts with Seider’s 60-point baseline and adds modest offensive growth rather than assuming everything breaks perfectly.
I have roughly four additional points coming from increased power-play opportunity and offensive talent around him, another two from continued development and shot creation, with a small variance buffer built in for shooting percentages, lineup changes and normal season-to-season fluctuation.
That gets me to 66 points — 12 goals and 54 assists.
What makes Seider particularly appealing to me in fantasy hockey is that his value isn’t entirely dependent on scoring. Even during stretches where the points slow down, his workload and involvement keep him relevant. That gives fantasy managers a safer floor than they get with a pure offensive specialist who needs power-play production to justify his draft position.
From my perspective, the 60-point season changed the conversation around Seider. Previously, fantasy managers could view him as a strong multi-category defenseman with offensive upside. Heading into 2026-27, I believe he should be viewed as an offensive fantasy defenseman who also provides the benefits of a heavily utilized, all-situations blueliner.
The upside case is even more intriguing. If Detroit’s power play takes a significant step and Seider pushes his goal total into the 13-to-15 range, a season approaching 70 points isn’t impossible. I’m just not baking that ceiling into my official projection.
Official projection: 12 goals + 54 assists = 66 points.
