The LA Kings are looking to shed some salary for flexibility at the NHL Trade Deadline. They also need cap space to sign UFA Justin Williams. In addition Jarret Stoll, Martin Jones, Robyn Regehr, Tyler Toffoli and Tanner Pearson are in need of new contracts for next season.
In order to create enough cap space and give the team added flexibility as the March 2 trade deadline approaches, and next off-season, GM Dean Lombardi is exploring alternative options, including trading center Mike Richards.
Lombardi has held preliminary discussions with teams about Richards, and a deal is not believed to be imminent.
