The NHL offseason could see some major fireworks, and the Calgary Flames and Carolina Hurricanes might be at the center of it. NHL rumors suggest the two teams could engage in talks surrounding a blockbuster trade that could reshape their rosters.
The Speculated Deal
Here’s the potential framework of the trade:
Calgary Flames trade:
- Nazem Kadri
- Blake Coleman
- 2025 first-round pick
Carolina Hurricanes trade:
- Jesperi Kotkaniemi
- Seth Jarvis
Why Calgary Does It
The Flames are looking to get younger and more dynamic. Seth Jarvis is a rising star with explosive offensive potential. While taking on Kotkaniemi’s contract might sting, it helps them offload Kadri’s larger deal as he enters the later stages of his career.
Why Carolina Does It
Nazem Kadri is the experienced, playoff-tested center the Hurricanes desperately need to solidify their second line and make them a true Stanley Cup contender next season. Blake Coleman brings veteran leadership, scoring punch, and the relentless grit that Coach Rod Brind’Amour loves in his players.
The Verdict
This trade has the potential to be mutually beneficial. The Flames hit a slight reset button for a brighter future, while the Hurricanes seize the opportunity to bolster their Cup chances in the immediate term. It’s a risky but enticing proposition for both sides.

Craig Conroy isn’t an idiot
Calgary would grab this so fast the phone would overheat. Problem being both Kadri and Coleman have NTCs and it is unlikely that both waive. I also Question which 1st rounder is under discussion, the Calgary one is already committed or the Floaida one certainly, but not sure that would be adequate for Carolina.
Dream on.
