In the ever-evolving landscape of the NHL, trade rumors are a constant source of speculation and intrigue.

One name that has been at the center of recent discussions is Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Necas. Despite persistent rumors and near-trades, it appears increasingly likely that Necas will remain with the Hurricanes for the 2024-25 season.

Martin Necas’ Future with the Carolina Hurricanes: Trade Rumors and Potential Deals

According to Cory Lavalette of The Athletic, the Carolina Hurricanes were actively seeking a trade partner for Necas during the 2024 NHL Draft. Reports indicate that they came close to finalizing a deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets. However, the trade ultimately did not materialize, leaving Necas’ future with the Hurricanes in a state of uncertainty.

As the offseason progresses, most NHL teams have completed their major roster moves, reducing the likelihood of a significant trade involving Necas. Lavalette suggests that a return to the Hurricanes is the most probable outcome. There is a feasible path for the two sides to negotiate a one-year deal worth between $5.5 million and $6.5 million, either through direct negotiation or arbitration.

In addition to the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Hurricanes were also reportedly in discussions with the Winnipeg Jets regarding a possible swap of Necas for winger Nikolaj Ehlers. Ehlers, who has one year remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $6 million, would have been a significant acquisition for the Hurricanes. However, as of now, it seems those talks have not progressed to a concrete offer.

For Carolina, retaining Necas could be a strategic move. The 25-year-old forward has shown flashes of brilliance, and with another season under his belt, he could develop into a more consistent and impactful player. Necas’ potential to contribute offensively makes him a valuable asset for a Hurricanes team looking to make a deep playoff run next season.
